Facebook Marketplace keeps showing items farther away than you want to travel. Start by setting your browsing location and a custom radius, then sort by distance to bring nearby results forward. These controls help you shop locally, but they don't guarantee local-only results or remove every shipped listing.

Set your local area in the Facebook app

Use this method on Android, iPhone, or iPad to choose where you browse and how far you're willing to travel. Start with the location inside Marketplace.

Open Facebook's Menu. On iPad, it's at the bottom right. If Marketplace isn't visible, tap See more. Then tap Marketplace.

Tap the displayed location on the right. Move the map to your preferred area, or enter a location in the search bar. Select Custom local radius.

Adjust the slider to the distance you're willing to travel. Then tap Apply.

Narrow your desktop browsing area

A wide browsing radius includes areas farther away than you want to travel. From your Facebook Feed, click Marketplace. Under Filters, click the displayed location. Enter your preferred location.

Set the distance you're willing to travel. Click Apply. That radius isn't a hard boundary. Meta allows listings outside your chosen distance when nearby items don't match.

Bring nearby desktop search results to the top

Open Marketplace on Facebook's desktop website. Enter the item you want in the search box. Press Enter or Return to run the search. Click Sort by.

Select Distance. Keep your location and radius set separately, because sorting changes the order of results without creating a pickup-only restriction.

Refine an item search on your phone

Searching for something specific? The Android and iPhone apps have a filter panel with distance sorting and delivery options.

Open Menu. Tap Marketplace. Tap Search. Enter the item you're looking for.

Open Filters. Choose the available option for sorting by distance. Select Delivery Method to view the delivery choices. This panel doesn't establish a universal pickup-only option across accounts.

Choose an available delivery option that matches your preference. Tap See items. If results still reach too far, tap Marketplace's displayed location to adjust Custom local radius again. Listings outside that distance are still allowed when nearby items don't match.

Choose a custom area in your mobile browser

This sets your preferred location and search distance on Facebook's mobile website. Open Menu. If Marketplace isn't visible, tap See more. Select Marketplace.

Tap the displayed location on the right. Select your preferred location. Choose Custom radius instead of Suggested radius. Set your desired range.

Find nearby listings in Facebook Lite

Facebook Lite supports location and distance filtering on Android. It doesn't support sorting by distance or new listings, and installing it doesn't unlock a guaranteed local-only mode.

Open Menu in Lite. Tap Marketplace. Tap the displayed location on the right. Select the location you want to browse.

Choose Custom radius to specify your search distance. For an item-specific search, open Search within Marketplace. Enter the item you want. Select the location or distance to refine your search area.

Tap Apply. If filtering alone doesn't make nearby items easy to find, try a search on Facebook's desktop website using Sort by and Distance. A nearby seller and an item available for local pickup are separate things.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where can I download the official Facebook Lite app?

Open the Facebook Lite Google Play listing published by Meta Platforms, Inc. and select Install. Availability depends on your Android device's compatibility and Google Play region.

Does Marketplace automatically filter out sellers in other countries?

In Singapore, the Ministry of Home Affairs says Marketplace filters out listings from sellers outside Singapore. This is a regional platform feature, not a selectable neighborhood radius or a guarantee of in-person pickup.

Should I change my profile hometown to get local results?

Facebook provides no official method for enforcing local-only Marketplace results through your profile hometown or shipping address. Set your browsing area inside Marketplace.

Why do older tutorials mention a Local listings shortcut?

Older tutorials, including one updated in January 2024, describe Local listings shortcuts. Those routes aren't part of Meta's current published instructions; their absence doesn't establish that Facebook has deprecated them.
