Call forwarding on iPhone sends incoming calls to another number, but the right switch depends on your carrier and the type of number you want to forward. Start with the built-in iPhone setting, then use the carrier or app-specific method that matches your line.

Turn on call forwarding in iPhone Settings

Use this first for standard cellular call forwarding on supported iPhone lines.

  1. 1.Open Settings.
  2. 2.Tap Apps, then Phone.
  3. 3.Tap Call Forwarding.
  4. 4.Turn on Call Forwarding.
  5. 5.Tap Forward To, enter the number, then tap Back.

Check these details before you switch it on

The current iPhone path is Settings > Apps > Phone > Call Forwarding.

Your iPhone must be in cellular range when you enable call forwarding. On a Dual SIM iPhone, choose the line first, then enter the number in Forward To.

This setting forwards calls for your iPhone cellular line on GSM service. It does not handle nearby Apple devices signed in to the same Apple Account.

Fix a missing Call Forwarding switch

Some carriers keep the iPhone Call Forwarding switch off the screen for specific lines. CDMA service and conditional forwarding for busy or out-of-service lines use carrier setup.

Contact your carrier and ask for the supported call forwarding method for your mobile line. Ask for the carrier's rules for forwarding all calls, busy calls, unanswered calls, and calls when the line is not in service.

If this method fails, use your carrier's keypad code when one is available, or have carrier support enable forwarding for the line.

Use Verizon call forwarding codes

The most common Verizon issue is trying to set call forwarding outside Verizon mobile coverage.

Set it up from the iPhone that uses the Verizon mobile line, while the phone is within Verizon mobile coverage. Open the Phone app and tap Keypad.

To forward all calls, dial *72 followed by the 10-digit forwarding number, then tap Call. Verizon's example format is *72-908-123-4567.

To forward only unanswered calls, dial *71 followed by the 10-digit forwarding number, then tap Call.

To turn off Verizon call forwarding, dial *73, tap Call, and listen for the confirmation tone or message.

Set up T-Mobile forwarding from the keypad

T-Mobile supports self-service short codes from the iPhone Phone app.

  1. 1.Open Phone and tap Keypad.
  2. 2.For all-call forwarding, dial **21*1+PhoneNumber#, then tap Call.
  3. 3.For no-reply forwarding, dial **61*1+PhoneNumber#, then tap Call.
  4. 4.For not-reachable forwarding, dial **62*1+PhoneNumber#, then tap Call.
  5. 5.For busy-line forwarding, dial **67*1+PhoneNumber#, then tap Call.
  6. 6.To turn off those rules, dial ##21#, ##61#, ##62#, or ##67#, then tap Call.

Adjust T-Mobile no reply timing

This fixes the T-Mobile ring delay before no-reply forwarding takes over.

Open the Phone app.

Tap Keypad.

Dial **61*18056377243**seconds#.

Replace seconds with 5, 10, 15, or any supported delay up to 30 seconds.

For a 10-second delay, dial **61*18056377243**10#.

Tap Call.

Forward Google Voice calls on iPhone

Use this when calls come to your Google Voice number, not your iPhone's carrier number. Google Voice supports up to 6 linked numbers.

In the Google Voice app, open Menu, then Settings. Under Account, tap Devices and numbers, then New linked number.

Enter the phone number. Tap Send code or Verify by phone, enter the code, then tap Verify.

To choose which devices get Google Voice calls, go to Menu > Settings > Incoming calls. Under My devices, turn off the devices you do not want to receive calls.

Create custom Google Voice forwarding rules on a computer at voice.google.com from Settings > Calls > Custom call forwarding > Create a rule. On iPhone, view existing rules from Menu > Settings > Manage rules.

Route work numbers and avoid account pages

Microsoft Teams forwarding applies to Teams calls or a Teams work number, not your iPhone's carrier number. In Teams, open Settings and more next to your profile picture, then go to Settings > Calls and use Call handling and forwarding.

In the Teams Calls app, select the forwarding status at the bottom, such as Don't forward or Forward to name or number, then choose the forwarding option available to your account. On a supported Teams SIP desk phone, Microsoft documents dial codes for the same job: dial *33* followed by the forwarding number to forward always, dial *34* with an optional number of seconds and then the forwarding number for timeout forwarding, and dial *32* to reset the forwarding status. On iPhone, use the Teams app settings above instead.

AT&T Wireless call forwarding settings must be changed from the wireless phone and cannot be managed online. Use Settings > Apps > Phone > Call Forwarding when it appears for your AT&T line.

Verizon mobile call forwarding must be managed from the mobile phone. Use the Verizon keypad codes instead of the My Verizon website or app paths found in older guides.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I set up call forwarding on iPhone without the Settings app?

Yes. Use carrier keypad codes when your carrier supports them. Verizon and T-Mobile both provide phone keypad codes for supported mobile lines.

Why don't I see Call Forwarding on my iPhone?

Your carrier or network type does not expose the iOS Call Forwarding switch for that line. Apple directs CDMA users and conditional forwarding users to contact the carrier for setup information.

Does Google Voice forwarding forward my regular iPhone number?

No. Google Voice forwarding applies to calls made to your Google Voice number, not calls made to your iPhone's cellular number.

Can I manage AT&T or Verizon mobile call forwarding online?

No. AT&T says wireless call forwarding cannot be managed online, and Verizon says mobile call forwarding must be managed using the mobile phone.
