An icon, banner or panel that won't leave your Samsung TV screen can come from a lot of places: demo mode, a frozen app, an accessibility feature, a game overlay, or even a logo retained on an OLED panel. Figure out which kind of graphic you're seeing first, then use the matching fix below. The quick fixes come first and the resets come last.
Turn off Store mode if promo icons won't go away
Feature icons and banners that keep coming back usually mean the TV is set to retail demo mode.
- 1.Open Settings > General & Privacy > System Manager > Usage Mode.
- 2.Enter your PIN if the TV asks for it. The default is 0000.
- 3.Select Home mode.
Cold boot a frozen screen
A cold boot clears frozen menus and software glitches that leave a graphic stuck in place.
With the TV on, press and hold the remote's Power button until the TV switches off and turns back on.
If the remote isn't responding, unplug the TV's power cord from the outlet while the TV is on.
Wait 30 seconds.
Plug the cord back in and turn the TV on.
If the stuck screen is actually an app, press RETURN to back out through its screens.
On the app's Home screen, press RETURN once more to close the app, and confirm the exit prompt if one appears.
Stop the volume or source display from popping up
A volume bar or source menu that keeps reappearing often comes from a stuck button, so look over the remote first. For a battery remote, take out the batteries, hold Power for eight seconds, and then put the batteries back in.
Re-pairing a Samsung Smart Remote works differently. Unplug the TV for 30 seconds, plug it back in, stand within one foot of the TV, and hold Return + Play/Pause for at least five seconds or until the connection message appears.
On TVs with touch controls on the bezel, those controls can trigger the on-screen display. Unplug the TV while it's on, along with its One Connect Box if you have one. Wipe the touch controls with a microfiber cloth, then plug it back in and turn it on using the TV's own controls.
If the volume or source still changes by itself, request service from Samsung. In the meantime, control the TV from the SmartThings app on your phone: once the TV is added, go to Menu > All devices > your TV and use Back, Home and the navigation controls.
Switch off the magnification panel
A small panel of three icons, or a zoomed-in picture, means Magnification is on. The fastest way out is to hold Settings/123 + Return and select Exit full screen, the four-arrows-in-a-box icon.
That restores the normal view and switches Magnification off.
You can also use the menus. Open Home > Settings > All Settings > General & Privacy > Accessibility > Magnification and select the feature again to turn it off.
Holding Volume opens Accessibility Shortcuts, which is another way to reach the same setting.
Remove unwanted app icons from the Home screen
On 2026 Samsung TVs with the One UI Tizen interface, removing an app tile leaves the app installed.
- 1.Go to Home > Now Playing > List Edit.
- 2.Select the app you don't want.
- 3.Press Down to remove it.
- 4.On other layouts, select List Edit at the end of the Apps menu, highlight the app, press Down and choose Remove. Holding Select on the app also gets you to removal.
- 5.To uninstall the app on 2026 models, go to Home > Apps > Downloaded App, hold Select on it and choose Delete > Delete. Some apps can't be deleted.
Disable TV Plus, Multi View, game and broadcast overlays
If Samsung TV Plus keeps showing up, go to Home > Edit List > Samsung TV Plus > Remove > Disable. Choosing Remove a second time instead of Disable only hides the shortcut. On models that have it, also turn off Settings > General > Smart Features > Autorun Samsung TV Plus.
A split screen is Multi View. Press Multi View or go to Home > Multi View, select the unwanted screen, choose Delete, then select Exit. To stop it reopening when you cast or mirror, turn off Autorun Multi View Mirroring and Autorun Multi View Casting under Settings > All Settings > Advanced Features > Start Screen Options, or under General & Privacy on compatible pre-2025 models.
A crosshair at the center of the screen can be Game Bar's Virtual Aim Point, an aiming reticle the TV adds on top of the game. On supported 2026 models with Game Mode set to On or Auto, hold Play/Pause, select Virtual Aim Point and turn on Auto Hide, which needs a game console connected.
On HbbTV-capable Australian models, switch off broadcast overlays in Settings > All Settings > Broadcasting > Expert Settings > HbbTV Settings.
Fix a glitchy app or outdated software
Use these steps when the stuck graphic only shows up inside one app, or when the whole TV behaves oddly.
Start by updating the app. On 2026 models, go to Home > Apps > App Settings, select the app and choose Update.
Next, clear the app's cache. Open Settings > All Settings > Support > Device Care > Manage Storage, select the app, choose View Details, then Clear Cache. Clear Data goes further, but you'll have to set the app up again.
Reinstalling fixes stubborn apps. Go to Home > APPS, select the gear icon in the upper right, pick the app and choose Reinstall.
Finally, update the TV from Settings > All Settings > Support > Software Update > Update Now. If the option is unavailable while you're streaming, switch to the TV source first.
Clear a logo retained on an OLED panel
Pixel Refresh can help with image retention on Samsung OLED TVs that offer it.
Open Settings and select Pixel Refresh. Depending on the model, it sits in the Panel Care menu or in the Picture settings.
Start the refresh now, or schedule it if your TV offers that option.
Leave the TV off for more than an hour, since turning it on interrupts the process. If the mark is still there afterward, contact Samsung support.
To keep logos from being retained again, turn on Pixel Shift in Panel Care and use its logo brightness setting to dim persistent logos.
Reset the TV when nothing else works
First check where the icon comes from. Run Settings > All Settings > Support > Device Care > Self Diagnosis > Picture Test. If the test image is clean, the problem may lie with a connected device, so check its connections and its own settings. If the icon appears in the test image, or the problem comes and goes, contact Samsung support.
Next, reset Smart Hub. On 2025 models, go to Settings > All Settings > Support > Device Care > Reset Smart Hub. On 2022 to 2024 models, go through Self Diagnosis before Reset Smart Hub. This signs you out of your accounts and removes apps that weren't preinstalled.
The last resort on 2025 models is Settings > All Settings > General & Privacy > Factory data reset. Enter the PIN and select Yes. Button combos like Source + Menu from older tutorials only apply to much older sets, so use Usage Mode on a current TV instead. On a hotel TV, ask the property administrator to check the TV's configuration.
If the icon is still there, contact Samsung customer care. Turn on Home > Settings > All Settings > Support > Remote Management, review View Terms, and give the representative the eight-digit PIN on screen so they can diagnose the TV remotely.
Frequently Asked Questions
Will removing an app icon from the Home screen delete the app?
No. On 2026 Samsung TVs, removing a tile through List Edit keeps the app installed. To remove the app entirely, delete it from Downloaded App.
What is the default PIN for turning off demo mode?
The default PIN is 0000.
Does resetting Smart Hub erase my apps?
It signs you out of your accounts and removes apps that didn't come preinstalled, so you'll need to reinstall them and sign in again.
Can I delete Netflix or YouTube to get rid of their icons?
On the models Samsung covers, default apps such as Netflix and YouTube can't be deleted. You can still remove their shortcuts from the Home screen.
Does a factory reset erase my Wi-Fi settings?
Samsung's US and Australian guides say a factory reset keeps network settings, but Samsung UK advises noting your router name and password before you reset, so write them down first.
