You posted fast, then noticed the typo, the wrong audience, or a tag that pulled the post onto your profile. Facebook uses different removal paths for profile posts, Page posts, group posts, Marketplace listings, and content someone else controls.

Start with the place where the post appears; personal profile posts go to Trash and are deleted after 30 days unless you restore them or permanently delete them sooner. Trash and Archive are not available to everyone, and only certain content types can be moved there; when Facebook does not show Move to Trash, use the deletion option it shows for that post.

Move your own profile post to Trash in the Facebook app

Open the Facebook app and tap Menu, then tap your name. Scroll to the post you want to remove and tap Options on the post. Choose Move to trash and tap Move.

Tip: Facebook automatically deletes items in Trash after 30 days unless you restore them or permanently delete them first.

Remove a profile post from facebook.com

Use this method when you are on desktop or mobile web and the post is one you created on your personal profile.

Open facebook.com and open your profile. Find the post you want to remove and select Options on the post. Choose Move to Trash.

Clear multiple profile posts from Activity Log

This fixes cleanup jobs where removing profile posts one at a time would take too long.

Open your profile and select Options below your profile picture. Open Activity Log, then choose Manage Activity or Your Posts. Selecting several items at once in Manage Activity currently requires the Android, iPhone, or Facebook Lite app; on a computer or mobile browser, open the matching Activity Log category and remove posts one at a time.

Use Filters when the list needs narrowing. Select the posts you want to remove, then choose Trash or Move to Trash.

Permanently delete a post from Trash

Use this only when the post is already in Trash and you are ready to lose it permanently.

  1. 1.Open your profile.
  2. 2.Select Options below your profile picture.
  3. 3.Open Activity Log.
  4. 4.Open Trash.
  5. 5.Select the content you want to remove.
  6. 6.Choose Delete.

Archive a post instead of deleting it

Archive when the post should leave its original audience but stay visible to you.

Go to the post, open Options, and choose Move to archive. Facebook removes the post from where that audience saw it without deleting it.

Use Move to trash when you want the post to enter the 30-day deletion path. Use Move to archive when you want to keep the post for yourself.

Hide something someone else posted on your profile

The ownership issue is the cause to check first: the post appears on your profile, but someone else created it.

Open the Facebook app and tap Menu, then tap your name. Scroll to the post and tap Options. Choose Hide from profile, which takes the post off your profile without removing it from Facebook. You can only delete posts you created, so use Remove tag to cut the remaining link to your profile; only the person who posted it can delete it from Facebook.

Detach your tag from someone else's post

This fixes posts tied to your profile by a tag; it does not delete the original post from Facebook.

Open Menu and tap your name. Tap Options, open Activity Log, and choose Filters. Select Posts You're Tagged In, select the post, tap Remove Tag, and confirm with Remove Tag.

Review tagged posts before they appear

Profile review is for future tagged posts, not posts that are already live elsewhere on Facebook.

Open Menu, then go to Settings & privacy > Settings > Audience and visibility > Profile and tagging > Reviewing. Turn on Review posts you're tagged in before the post appears on your profile?

When profile review does not solve the post already in front of you, use Remove Tag or Report instead.

Handle Pages groups Marketplace ads and reports

For a Page post you manage, open the post on your Page, choose Options, select Move to trash, and confirm with Move; Page Trash items are permanently removed after 30 days. On Page surfaces that show Delete post, choose it and confirm with Yes.

In Meta Business Suite, open Content, go to Posts & reels or the relevant content list, select the post, and use the delete or manage option shown for that post. For a scheduled Page post, switch to the Page, open Meta Business Suite, select the scheduled post, and choose Delete post.

For your own group post or comment, open your profile, use Options > Activity Log > Groups and Events > Group posts and comments, find the item, open Options, and choose Delete. To remove another member's post in a group you manage, go to Menu > Groups, select the group, find the post, open Options, choose Remove post, leave Give a warning off or turn it on, and confirm with REMOVE.

For Marketplace, use Menu > Marketplace > Profile or Your listings, open Options next to the listing, choose Delete listing, then tap Delete. Facebook blocks deletion when the listing has sold, when a shipping label has been generated for it, or when an order is pending or waiting to be accepted or declined; use the status or action Marketplace shows for those listings instead.

For a boosted post or ad, use Facebook Page > Ad Center > All ads, select Delete ad, and confirm; deleting the ad does not delete the original Page post. When you cannot remove the content yourself, use Report, Report post to Admin, or Report Comment to Admins, then follow the prompts; without a Facebook account, ask someone with an account to use Report for the post, photo, or comment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I use Facebook Lite to remove a post?

Yes. In Facebook Lite, go to the post, open Options, choose Move to trash, and tap Move. Trash auto-deletes after 30 days.

Why can't I find every post in Activity Log?

Activity Log manages only some Facebook content. Use the Page, group, Marketplace, or ad tools when the item belongs to one of those surfaces.

Does removing a tag delete the original Facebook post?

No. Removing your tag removes the connection to your profile, but the original post stays on Facebook unless the owner, an admin, or Meta removes it.

Can I delete every Facebook post with a third-party tool?

Facebook does not publish a supported browser extension or script for deleting existing posts. Use Activity Log or Manage Activity for bulk removal.
