Can't find a screen recording button on your Galaxy J4 Plus? Samsung's modern Quick Settings recorder isn't a supported solution for its stock Android 8.1 and Android 9 firmware. Start with the general Mobizen Screen Recorder app to capture your screen, then use the settings below to stop recording, save clips, and choose your audio.
Start recording with Mobizen
Open Google Play Store.
Find the general Mobizen Screen Recorder app, package com.rsupport.mvagent. Its Android 5.0 minimum requirement includes the J4 Plus's stock firmware.
Tap Install if Google Play offers it for your phone. If installation isn't available, move to the alternatives below.
Open Mobizen.
Tap the floating Air Circle.
Select Record.
Approve the phone's screen-capture authorization prompt to begin recording.
Tip: Choose the general Mobizen app, since the separate Samsung edition targets Android 4.4 or earlier.
Hide the controls and stop through notifications
Mobizen's Clean Mode keeps floating controls out of your recording and lets you stop through notifications.
Open Mobizen's Settings.
Select Clean Mode.
Switch it On.
Tap the Air Circle to open its controls.
Select Record. The circle disappears during recording.
Approve the phone's screen-capture authorization prompt.
Pull down the notification bar when you're finished.
Tap the recording's stop control.
Select View video in the saved-video popup to watch your clip.
Try another app if Mobizen isn't available
XRecorder and AZ Recorder offer alternative recording controls. Installation depends on Google Play accepting your device.
Find Screen Recorder - XRecorder by InShot Inc. or Screen Recorder - AZ Recorder by AZ Screen Recorder in Google Play Store.
Tap Install if it's available for your chosen app.
For XRecorder, open Screen Recorder - XRecorder.
Use its floating ball to start recording.
Approve Android's screen-capture prompt. XRecorder also supports pausing and resuming recordings.
For AZ Recorder, open Screen Recorder - AZ Recorder.
Use its recording control buttons to start capture.
Use the recording control buttons again to stop. AZ Recorder also supports shaking the phone to stop recording.
If neither alternative installs or captures your screen, try the computer recording method below.
Adjust the picture and save location
Before your next Mobizen recording, choose the settings that suit your clip.
- 1.Open Mobizen's Settings.
- 2.Adjust the recording-resolution, quality, and frame-rate controls for your video.
- 3.Use Facecam to add a camera overlay.
- 4.Select Storage location to choose internal storage or an SD card. Enabling the Air Circle, Facecam, watermark, touchpoints, or timer disables Clean Mode.
Understand why internal sound is missing
The usual obstacle to internal-audio recording on a stock J4 Plus is its Android version: Mobizen, XRecorder, and AZ Recorder require Android 10 or later for ordinary internal-audio capture.
Open Mobizen's Settings.
Turn on its sound-recording toggle to include audio in your clip.
Mobizen records this sound through the phone's microphone, which suits spoken commentary. It doesn't enable internal-audio capture.
Computer recording has audio limits too. ADB and Android Studio produce silent video, while scrcpy requires Android 11 or later for audio capture. The scrcpy command below records video only.
Check what the missing Samsung recorder means
Samsung's modern Screen recorder control is for supported Galaxy devices running One UI 2 or later. Editing Quick settings isn't a supported way to add it to a stock J4 Plus running Android 8.1 or Android 9.
Older instructions refer to Samsung's game-only Game Tools recording or the separate Mobizen for Samsung app. Game Tools belongs to the phone's older gameplay interface, and Mobizen for Samsung targets Android 4.4 or earlier. Use the general Mobizen Screen Recorder app for recording other phone apps.
Pressing Power plus Volume Down takes a still screenshot on the J4 Plus. It doesn't start a screen video.
Record directly to a computer with scrcpy
scrcpy saves your screen video directly to a Windows, Mac, or Linux computer over USB.
Install scrcpy using your computer's platform instructions under Get the app in the official scrcpy project.
On your phone, open Settings > About phone > Software information.
Tap Build number seven times.
Complete any requested authentication.
Return to Settings.
Open Developer options.
Enable USB debugging.
Connect your phone to the computer by USB.
Authorize the computer's debugging connection on the phone.
Run scrcpy --no-audio --record=file.mp4 in the computer's terminal to begin recording.
Perform the actions you want to capture on the phone or through the mirrored window.
Press Ctrl+C on the computer to end the session.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I find a Mobizen recording after closing the saved-video popup?
Open the Air Circle menu and select your recording from the video list.
Why does a protected video appear blank in my recording?
Protected content can block screen capture or produce a blank recording.
Does enabling USB debugging start recording my screen?
No. USB debugging prepares the connection for tools such as scrcpy or ADB. You must start recording separately.
Can I use ADB instead of scrcpy?
Yes. Install Android SDK Platform-Tools and authorize USB debugging. Run adb devices, then adb shell screenrecord /sdcard/demo.mp4. Perform the actions you want to capture. Press Ctrl+C to stop, then run adb pull /sdcard/demo.mp4 to copy the video to your computer. ADB records silent MP4 video, normally limited to three minutes, and does not support rotation during recording.
