You want the same song to start again when it ends, but Spotify keeps moving through the playlist. The trick is selecting single-song Repeat, which comes after album or playlist repeat. Here’s how to set it on your phone or computer and find the control when it isn’t on the main playback screen.
Put a song on repeat on your phone
Play the song you want to loop in Spotify on your iPhone or Android phone using a Premium account.
Tap the Now Playing bar above the bottom menu to expand the playback view.
With repeat turned off, tap the Repeat icon twice. The first tap repeats the album or playlist; the second repeats only the current song.
Tip: Two taps assumes repeat starts off, so stop at single-song repeat if another repeat mode is already enabled.
If the Repeat button is missing
Spotify’s redesigned mobile layout gives Premium users another location for Repeat: the Queue screen.
From Now Playing, tap the Queue icon, shown as three lines.
Select Repeat until single-song repeat is enabled. Starting from off, that takes two selections.
For hidden playback controls in other mobile layouts, open the three-dot menu. Tablet layouts vary from the phone layout.
Loop a track on your computer
Use Spotify’s Windows or Mac app, or the desktop web player, to repeat a song with either Premium or Free. Free accounts still have ads.
In the desktop app, play the song you want to hear again.
Select Repeat in the playback controls twice from the off state. The second selection sets the current song to repeat.
For browser playback, open Spotify’s web player on your computer.
Sign in to your Spotify account.
Start your chosen song.
Click Repeat twice from off in the playback controls. These browser instructions cover the desktop interface; a phone browser is not an equivalent playback surface.
What the repeat modes and account limits mean
When the whole playlist starts over instead of just your song, Repeat is set to album or playlist repeat. Select Repeat once more to switch to single-song repeat.
Spotify markets song repeat as a Premium feature on mobile. Free mobile accounts gained on-demand song selection, but that is a separate feature from song repeat. For a Free account, use the desktop app or desktop web player to loop a track.
Free desktop and web repeat has reported reliability problems. In June 2026, Spotify moderators were investigating reports of single-song repeat skipping after an ad break. An interruption alone does not show that you selected the wrong mode.
Shuffle and Autoplay are separate playback features. The On Repeat recommendation playlist is not a control for looping your current song.
Keep the song repeating on a connected speaker
For an initial Spotify Connect speaker connection, put your phone or computer and the speaker on the same Wi-Fi network.
Start playing music in Spotify.
Select the Connect device icon.
Choose your destination speaker, TV, computer, or other compatible receiver.
Enable single-song Repeat in the Spotify app controlling playback by selecting it twice from off.
Tip: The receiving device must support repeat control, and its device restrictions and account requirements still apply.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a keyboard shortcut for repeating a song in Spotify?
With Spotify focused, press Option+R on Mac or Ctrl+R on Windows to change the repeat mode, stopping at single-song repeat.
If the binding differs, open the shortcut list with Cmd+/ on Mac or Ctrl+/ on Windows and check the Repeat entry. Browser interception affects whether shortcuts reach the web player.
Can I replay a song once instead of looping it forever?
Yes. On Premium mobile, open the song’s three-dot menu.
Select Add to Queue.
On desktop or web, right-click the song to open its menu.
Select Add to queue.
Arrange the song next in the queue. This schedules another play without enabling an endless loop.
Can Google repeat my Spotify song with a voice command?
With Spotify linked and the song playing, say “Hey Google, play it again” or “Hey Google, play this song again.” Google documents these as song-replay commands without promising an indefinite single-song loop. Spotify Premium supports song repeat on supported Google speakers, displays, and Cast destinations; Free support is limited to video Cast devices.
How do I repeat a Spotify song through the Sonos app?
Play the Spotify track through Sonos.
Open Now Playing in the Sonos mobile app.
Open Queue.
Select Repeat twice from off. The first selection repeats the queue; the second continuously repeats the current song. This applies to Spotify on-demand tracks in the Sonos queue, excluding radio playback.
