A redstone repeater fails to craft when one item is in the wrong slot or the wrong stone block is used. The current recipe is two Redstone Torches, one Redstone Dust, and three Stone blocks in a crafting table. Start with the manual recipe, then use the faster Recipe Book, Crafter, Creative Mode, or command routes when they fit your world.

Craft the repeater at a crafting table

This fixes the basic Survival case: one Redstone Repeater from the current crafting recipe.

Open a Crafting Table in your world.

Place Redstone Torch, Redstone Dust, and Redstone Torch across one row.

Place Stone, Stone, and Stone across the row directly below it.

Take the Redstone Repeater from the output slot.

Use the Recipe Book when it is available

Use this when the Redstone Repeater recipe is known or unlocked and the required supplies are in your inventory. It is the fastest route when you do not want to place each ingredient by hand.

Open a Crafting Table. The repeater recipe is three items wide, so the 2×2 grid in your Inventory cannot build it.

Open the Recipe Book.

Search for Redstone Repeater or repeater.

Select the Redstone Repeater recipe.

Take the Redstone Repeater from the output slot after the grid fills.

Avoid the wrong stone items

The supported recipe uses Stone on the bottom row, not cobblestone, smooth stone slabs, or nether quartz. The middle row is Redstone Torch, Redstone Dust, Redstone Torch, and the row below is Stone, Stone, Stone.

When the output slot stays empty, check the bottom row first. Then check that Redstone Dust sits between the two Redstone Torches.

Fix a missing Recipe Book result

The most common cause is that the recipe is not known or unlocked in the Recipe Book.

Open a Crafting Table.

Place Redstone Torch, Redstone Dust, and Redstone Torch across one row.

Place Stone, Stone, and Stone across the row beneath it.

Take the Redstone Repeater from the output slot.

Make repeaters automatically with a Crafter

Use this when your version includes the Crafter block and you want redstone to produce repeaters automatically. The Crafter uses input slots and creates output when it receives a redstone pulse.

Place a Crafter.

Open the Crafter.

Load Redstone Torch, Redstone Dust, and Redstone Torch across one row.

Load Stone, Stone, and Stone across the row below.

Disable unused input slots by clicking them while empty. This is optional when you load the Crafter by hand, but it matters for hopper-fed builds: a hopper fills the first empty enabled slot in reading order, so disabling the slots this recipe does not use keeps the shape correct on every refill.

Send the Crafter a redstone pulse from a button, lever, pressure plate, or redstone circuit.

Collect the Redstone Repeater output.

Get a repeater in Creative Mode

Creative Mode lets you take the item directly instead of crafting it.

  1. 1.Enter Creative Mode.
  2. 2.Open the inventory with your platform inventory control, such as E on keyboard.
  3. 3.Search for Redstone Repeater or repeater in the Creative inventory search.
  4. 4.Move the Redstone Repeater to your hotbar or inventory.

Use commands when cheats are enabled

Enable cheats or use a world where you already have the required command permission.

Open chat.

Run /give @s minecraft:repeater 1 to add one Redstone Repeater to your inventory.

In Bedrock, run /give @s repeater 1 where that item form is accepted.

In Java Edition, run /setblock ~ ~ ~ minecraft:repeater only when you want to place a repeater in the world instead of adding one to your inventory.

In Bedrock the block ID differs from the item ID, so run /setblock ~ ~ ~ minecraft:unpowered_repeater there instead.

Use /give for an inventory item and /setblock for direct placement.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the /recipe command do for a Redstone Repeater?

It unlocks the vanilla repeater recipe for a player. It does not place a repeater in the inventory, so you still craft it through the Recipe Book or crafting grid.

Can a command block make repeaters automatically?

Yes. In a cheats-enabled Bedrock world with command-block permission, a command block can run /give or /setblock and be powered by redstone or set to Always Active.

Does /setblock give me a Redstone Repeater item?

No. /setblock places a repeater block at the target coordinates. Use /give when you want the item in your inventory.

Is the Crafter method the same as the crafting table recipe?

Yes. Load the same repeater pattern into the Crafter, then power it with a redstone pulse to produce the output.
