Trying to log in to Microsoft Edge should be simple, but the sign-in button can hide in different places depending on your device and profile. Start with the fastest profile menu method, then use Settings, mobile account options, or the sign-in fixes below when Edge will not connect your account.

1. Use the profile button on desktop

This is the quickest way to sign in to Microsoft Edge on Windows, macOS, or Linux. Open Microsoft Edge, then select the profile icon in the top-right corner.

Choose your account, or select Add new account. Next, select Sign in to sync data and finish the Microsoft, work, or school account prompts. Once Edge accepts the sign-in, that browser profile is connected to the account you selected.

2. Open sign in from Edge Settings

If the profile button is not where you expect it, go through Settings instead. Select Settings and more, then select Settings and Profiles.

Select Sign in, choose your account, and select Continue. After that, select Sign in to sync data. If Edge shows Manage profile settings instead of Sign in, the current profile is already signed in.

3. Add another Edge profile for a second account

Use a separate profile when the same computer needs more than one Edge account, or when you want personal and work browsing kept apart. Select the Profile button, then select Manage profile settings.

Select + Add profile, then select Add. In the new profile, select Sign in to sync data, then select Continue. Set sign-in synchronization to Yes, and select Confirm.

4. Sign in on iPhone or Android

Open the Microsoft Edge app, then tap your profile image. Open Accounts, select your account, and tap Sign in to sync.

On the Microsoft Edge mobile app, start from the account area when your account already appears on the phone. Adding a new account is almost the same path: open Accounts, select Add Account, then follow the prompts.

5. Choose the right mobile account type

Use Settings when the account does not appear in the profile image menu. For a personal account, open Settings, go to Accounts, then select Sign in with a Microsoft account.

For a work or school account, open Settings, go to Accounts, then select Sign in with a work or school account. Microsoft says Edge mobile can have both a personal Microsoft account and a work or school account signed in.

6. Navigate sign in with a keyboard or screen reader

You can sign in from the desktop browser without using a mouse. Open Microsoft Edge, then press F6 until the app bar or address area is focused.

Press Tab until the profile button is selected, then press Enter. Choose an account and activate Sign in to sync. To create a new profile from the same keyboard flow, choose Add profile, select Add, then select Sign in to sync data and finish the prompts.

7. Check your account when Edge will not sign in

Check the account before changing browser settings. For a personal Microsoft account, sign in at account.microsoft.com. For a work or school account, sign in at myaccount.microsoft.com.

If web sign-in works, open edge://settings/profiles in Edge and try signing in again. If web sign-in fails, reset the password or update the MFA and security information, then return to edge://settings/profiles.

8. Clear data when Edge sign in loops

Use this when the sign-in button fails, Edge keeps looping, or stale account prompts keep returning. Open Microsoft Edge, then go to edge://settings/privacy.

Under Clear browsing data, select Choose what to clear. Select Cookies and other site data, then select Cached images and files. Set Time range to All time, and select Clear now.

Restart Microsoft Edge. Go to edge://settings/profiles and sign in again. On work or school devices, the sign-in button can be blocked, required, or controlled by organization policy.

Open edge://policy and search for BrowserSignin, then contact your organization’s IT support when sign-in is blocked or keeps reverting.

9. Ignore old Edge Legacy login instructions

Old tutorials for Microsoft Edge Legacy are not current sign-in instructions. Microsoft Edge Legacy support ended on March 9, 2021, and it no longer receives security updates, so use the current Microsoft Edge profile and sync paths above.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Edge sign me in automatically?

Yes. On supported Windows and organization-managed setups, Edge can sign in automatically with the operating system account. If that does not happen, use the profile button or Profiles settings.

Can my organization block Microsoft Edge sign-in?

Yes. Work or school policies can allow, block, or require browser sign-in. Managed mobile devices can also block sign-in or disable sync.

Does clearing cookies sign me in to Edge?

No. Clearing cookies and cached files only fixes sign-in loops or stale prompts. You still need to return to Profiles and sign in again.

Should I use old Edge Legacy login steps?

No. Microsoft Edge Legacy support ended on March 9, 2021. Use the current Microsoft Edge profile sign-in and sync steps instead.
