Getting into a NETGEAR WiFi extender is a local network login. Connect your phone or computer to the extender first, then use the browser address or app path that matches your setup.
The right address changes when the extender has its own WiFi name, shares your router's WiFi name, or uses One WiFi Name on a mesh extender. Start with the path that matches what you see at home, then move to the fallback steps if the login page does not load.
Use mywifiext when the extender has its own WiFi name
For standard NETGEAR WiFi range extenders with a different WiFi name from the router, use the browser login. Connect your computer or mobile device to the extender's network, open a browser, and type mywifiext.com in the address bar.
Press Enter. Enter the extender admin user name and password, then select LOG IN.
If the extender interface shows a Menu icon, open Menu and select Settings.
Log in by IP address when names match
When a standard NETGEAR extender and router use the same WiFi network name, use the extender's IP address instead of mywifiext.com. Connect your phone or computer to the extender's network, open a browser, and enter the extender IP address, such as http://192.168.1.250.
Press Enter, enter your admin user name and password, then choose LOG IN. If you see the Menu icon, open Menu and select Settings.
If this method fails, try the local mywifiext addresses below, then use the default IP fallback.
Choose the right mesh extender address
This method applies to NETGEAR WiFi Mesh Extenders and Nighthawk Mesh Extenders. The right browser address depends on whether One WiFi Name is enabled and which device you are using.
When One WiFi Name is off, connect to the extender's network and enter www.mywifiext.com in the browser address bar. Press Enter, enter the admin user name and password, then select LOG IN.
On Windows with One WiFi Name enabled, enter http://mywifiext or http://mywifiext.local. On Mac, iPhone, iPad, or Linux, enter http://mywifiext.local.
On Android with One WiFi Name enabled, enter the extender's IP address, such as http://192.168.1.3. Once the login page opens, enter your admin user name and password and select LOG IN.
Fix mywifiext when it will not open
The most common cause is that your device is not connected to the NETGEAR extender network.
Connect your computer or phone to the extender by WiFi or Ethernet. Open the browser address bar and try http://www.mywifiext.com/.
If that page does not load, try http://mywifiext. Then try http://mywifiext.local.
These are local extender addresses, not regular Internet sites. They work when your device can reach the extender on the local network.
Open the Nighthawk app for supported extenders
The Nighthawk app can manage supported NETGEAR extenders on iPhone, iPad, and Android. Connect your mobile device to the extender's WiFi network, then open the Nighthawk app.
If the app asks for credentials, enter the extender admin user name and password. If you also have a Nighthawk router, tap the Home icon, tap the router name at the top of the screen, then select your extender from Your Products.
Use the official NETGEAR Nighthawk app page, the App Store link, Google Play link, or nighthawk-app.com to install the app. The older NETGEAR Genie app is unsupported; use Nighthawk where app management is supported.
Create the admin login during first setup
Use this path when the extender has not been set up yet.
- 1.Connect to the default extender WiFi network named NETGEAR_EXT.
- 2.Open a browser, enter mywifiext.com, then select NEW EXTENDER SETUP when it appears.
- 3.Select YES or I AGREE if either prompt appears.
- 4.Choose an administrator user name and password.
- 5.Select and answer two security questions, then choose NEXT.
Recover a forgotten admin password
The most common cause is that the saved admin password no longer works or the setup credentials are not available.
Open the extender login page using the browser method that fits your setup. On the login page, select Username & Password Help.
Answer the security questions created during setup to recover access.
If recovery does not restore access, factory reset the extender and set it up again with a new admin user name and password.
Factory reset the extender and start over
Use a factory reset when you cannot recover the admin login and need to remove the old credentials. The extender must be powered on before you press the reset button.
Plug in the extender and wait for the Power LED to stop blinking and become solid green or blue. If the Power LED does not light up, press the Power or On/Off button.
Find the Reset or Factory Reset button. Use a straightened paper clip or similarly sized object to press and hold Reset or Factory Reset until the Power LED blinks.
Wait for the Power LED to stop blinking and turn solid green or blue again. Set up the extender again and create new admin credentials.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is mywifiext.com the same as a normal website?
No. NETGEAR treats mywifiext addresses as local extender addresses. Your phone or computer must be connected to the extender network for them to work.
What user name and password do I use to log in?
Use the extender administrator user name and password created during setup. This is separate from the WiFi network name and WiFi password.
Can I use routerlogin.net to log in to a NETGEAR extender?
No. Routerlogin.net and routerlogin.com are router-only paths, not extender login methods.
What should I do if I forgot the extender admin password?
Use the Username & Password Help link on the extender login page and answer your security questions. If that does not restore access, factory reset the extender and set it up again.
