Microsoft Edge add-ons can block ads, save passwords, adjust tabs, and add tools you use every day. The confusing part is that Edge keeps install, permission, sync, and removal controls in a few different places. Use these current Microsoft-supported paths to install add-ons, control what they can access, and clean out anything you no longer want.
1. Start from the Edge Extensions button
The fastest desktop route starts inside Microsoft Edge, right next to the address bar.

- 5.Select Get.
- 6.Review the permissions Edge shows.

2. Browse the Microsoft Edge Add-ons store

This is the current store path for Edge desktop add-ons. Microsoft also has a mobile Edge Add-ons collection for iOS and Android extensions surfaced by Microsoft.
3. Add Chrome Web Store extensions
Current Chromium-based Microsoft Edge can use extensions made for Google Chrome. Install them from Edge, not from Chrome.
- 1.Open the Chrome Web Store in Microsoft Edge.
- 2.Search for the extension.
- 3.Open its product details page.
- 4.Select Get extension or Get.
- 5.If Edge asks, select Allow extensions from other stores.
- 6.Review the permissions.

Compatibility depends on the extension, so remove it if it does not work correctly in Edge.
4. Turn extensions on or off
- Select Extensions next to the address bar.
- Select Manage Extensions.
- Use the toggle next to the extension to turn it on or off.
Use this when you want to pause an installed extension without deleting it. There is another route when the toolbar button is missing: open Settings and more, choose Extensions, select Manage extension, find the extension, then turn its toggle on.
5. Remove add-ons you do not use
If the extension icon is visible on the toolbar, removal takes a few clicks.

- 2.Choose Remove from Microsoft Edge.
- 3.Select Remove.
For extensions that are not pinned, open Extensions, select More actions next to the extension, choose Remove from Microsoft Edge, then select Remove. To see everything installed, go to Extensions, select Manage Extensions, find the extension under Installed extensions, choose Remove, then confirm with Remove.
6. Limit what an extension can access

- 2.Select More actions next to the extension.
- 3.Hover over This can read and change site data.
- 4.Choose When you click the extension, On [current site], or On all sites.
Some extensions ask to read and change site data. Edge lets you decide whether that access happens only when you click, on the current site, or on all sites. For deeper controls, open Extensions, choose Manage extensions, then select Details below the extension. Under Site access, manage allowed sites, Allow in InPrivate, and Allow access to file URLs.
7. Sync extensions across Edge profiles
Desktop Edge can sync extensions when you are signed in and extension sync is enabled.

- 3.Choose Profiles.
- 4.Select Sync.
- 5.Turn the Extensions sync toggle on or off.
You can also open Settings and more with Alt+F, then go to Settings, Profiles, and Sync. On mobile, open More options, select Settings, choose your profile image, open Sync, choose the available sync toggles, then select Done.
8. Handle mobile and managed devices
For Edge mobile extensions, use Microsoft’s mobile Edge Add-ons collection: open the mobile Edge Add-ons collection page, select Get to install on the current device, or scan the QR code to get extensions on Edge for a phone or tablet.
On a work or school device, your organization can allow, block, force-install, or manage extensions through Microsoft Edge management tools. When an add-on is blocked or returns after removal, the device or account is managed by those policies.
9. Ignore old Microsoft Store instructions
Skip the Microsoft Store app path for Edge extensions. Older tutorials that send you there belong to the Microsoft Edge Legacy era, and Microsoft’s current consumer instructions use Microsoft Edge Add-ons instead.
Microsoft also says extensions made for Microsoft Edge Legacy are not compatible with the new Microsoft Edge. For current Edge, use Extensions, Get Extensions for Microsoft Edge, Microsoft Edge Add-ons, or the Chrome Web Store path inside Edge.
