Need to make text clickable in PowerPoint or send your audience straight to another slide? The link controls differ between Windows, Mac, the browser, and mobile. Here’s where to find them and how to add a website, file, or slide destination.

Select the text, shape, or picture you want to make clickable. Open Insert > Link > Insert Link.

Choose Existing File or Web Page. For a website, enter its URL in Address. For a file, choose the destination through Current Folder, Browsed Pages, or Recent Files.

For a text link, set the wording in Text to display. Add a ScreenTip if you want one, then select OK.

If the ribbon route doesn’t open the dialog, select your text or object and press Ctrl+K. Enter the destination in Address, then select OK.

This connects text or an object to a website, file, or another presentation.

In Normal view, select the text, shape, or picture you want to link.

Open Insert > Link.

Choose Web Page or File in the Insert Hyperlink dialog.

For a website, enter its URL in Address.

For a file or presentation instead, use Select to browse for the destination.

Click OK to save the hyperlink.

On Windows, a disabled automatic-link setting stops typed URLs from becoming hyperlinks automatically.

For a quick website link on Windows or Mac, type the webpage address into your slide text.

Press Enter to turn the address into a hyperlink when automatic linking is enabled.

If the address stays plain text on Windows, open File > Options > Proofing > AutoCorrect Options > AutoFormat As You Type.

Select Internet and network paths with hyperlinks to enable automatic links.

For a manual link instead, select the text.

Press Ctrl+K on Windows or Command+K on Mac.

Enter the destination in Address.

Select OK.

Jump to another slide in your presentation

Select the text, shape, or picture that will take you to the destination slide.

Open Insert > Link.

On Windows, select Place in This Document under Link to. On Mac, choose This Document instead.

Expand Slide Titles if the slide names are collapsed.

Select the slide you want to open.

Click OK to create the link.

PowerPoint automatically bookmarks slides, so there’s no separate bookmark to create first.

For a website or web-hosted file, select your slide text and open Insert > Link. Enter the wording in Display text and the destination URL in Address. Select Insert to finish.

To link to another slide in the same deck, select your text and open Insert > Link > This Presentation. Choose the destination slide. Select Insert.

For an email link, select your text and open Insert > Link. Enter mailto:// followed by the complete email address in Address. Select Insert.

Use your phone or tablet

On mobile, start with the link controls for your device.

  1. 1.On an Android phone, tap the Edit icon, then Home > Insert > Link. On an Android tablet, tap Insert > Link.
  2. 2.On iPhone, tap Edit > Home > Insert > Link. On iPad, open Insert > Link.
  3. 3.If a menu opens, select Insert Link.
  4. 4.Enter the destination address and the text you want to display.
  5. 5.On Android, tap Insert. On iPhone, tap Done. On iPad, tap outside the dialog to finish.

A OneDrive sharing link lets you set access before adding the file link to your slide.

Select the destination file on the OneDrive website. Inserting a hyperlink alone does not grant access to it.

Open Share > Copy Link.

Use the settings gear to choose the permitted recipients and whether they can view or edit the file.

Select Apply.

Select Copy to copy the sharing URL.

Paste that URL into Address in PowerPoint’s Link dialog.

Select OK on desktop or Insert in the browser. Recipients still need a valid sharing URL and access allowed by your organization.
