When Stream Deck Discord authorization is not working, the Discord buttons can stay disconnected, show a request prompt, or never finish linking to your account. Start with the official Elgato Discord plugin, then refresh the software, plugin, and Discord permission that handle the connection.

The fixes below move from the fastest account prompt to deeper reinstall steps.

Start authorization from a Stream Deck key

The official Discord plugin starts authorization from a Discord action inside the Stream Deck app. Elgato closed the in-app Store in April 2024, so install from Elgato Marketplace: click the colorful Marketplace icon at the top of the Stream Deck window, sign in to your Marketplace account in the browser, choose Stream Deck, select Plugins, search for Discord, get the official Elgato plugin, click Open in Stream Deck, then drag any Discord action to a blank key.

Press that key on your Stream Deck. When Discord shows the authorization message, click Authorize. If the action panel shows Request Access, click Request Access, then complete the Discord Authorize prompt.

If the prompt still does not complete, update the Stream Deck app next.

Update the Stream Deck app

Use the built-in updater first.

  1. 1.Open the Stream Deck app.
  2. 2.Click the Preferences gear icon.
  3. 3.Open General.
  4. 4.Click Check For Updates....
  5. 5.Install the update, reopen Stream Deck, then test the same Discord key.

Refresh the Discord plugin through Marketplace

The most common plugin-side cause is an outdated or stuck Discord plugin that never refreshes its authorization state.

Open Stream Deck and sign in to your Marketplace account from the top-right corner. Close Stream Deck, reopen it, then test the same Discord action again.

The official Discord plugin requires Stream Deck 6.9 or later, so the app and plugin versions need to line up.

For a manual plugin update, click the Preferences gear, open Plugins, find Discord, choose Check for update..., then select Update when prompted.

Remove the old Discord authorization

This fixes a stale account permission that blocks a new Stream Deck connection.

Open Discord on desktop or in a browser.

Click the cogwheel in the lower-left corner to open User Settings.

Go to Authorized Apps.

Select Stream Deck, then click Deauthorize.

Return to Stream Deck, press a Discord action key or click Request Access, then click Authorize in Discord.

Reinstall the official Discord plugin

If updating does not fix it, remove the plugin from Stream Deck and install it again from Elgato Marketplace. This clears a corrupted plugin install or local authorization state.

Open Stream Deck, click the Preferences gear, then open Plugins. Find Discord, right-click it, choose Uninstall, and confirm the uninstall.

Click the Marketplace icon at the top of the Stream Deck window, choose Stream Deck in the browser, select Plugins, search for Discord, get the official Elgato Discord plugin again, then click Open in Stream Deck. Drag a Discord action to a blank key, press it, and click Authorize when Discord asks.

If Stream Deck cannot uninstall the plugin from Plugins, remove the plugin folder manually.

Manually remove the plugin folder

This fixes a Discord plugin install that will not uninstall normally from Stream Deck Preferences.

Close Stream Deck from the macOS menu bar or Windows taskbar.

On macOS, press Cmd + Shift + G, then open ~/Library/Application Support/com.elgato.StreamDeck/Plugins/.

On Windows, press Win Key + R, then open %appdata%\Elgato\StreamDeck\Plugins\.

Find the Discord plugin folder and delete it.

Reopen Stream Deck, reinstall Discord from Marketplace, drag a Discord action to a blank key, and authorize again.

Reinstall Discord on the computer

Use this when the authorization window does not open cleanly or the Discord desktop client is missing or stale.

  1. 1.Open Discord's official download page.
  2. 2.On Windows, choose Download for Windows, then save and open DiscordSetup.exe.
  3. 3.On macOS, choose Download for Mac, open Discord.dmg, then drag the Discord logo to Applications.
  4. 4.Reopen Stream Deck and try the Discord authorization again.

The official Elgato Discord plugin lists macOS 10.15 and Windows 10 as its supported systems, so this fix applies to Mac and Windows computers only.

Check server permissions and managed device limits

Discord server app permissions do not repair the Elgato Stream Deck account authorization itself. They only control what apps and commands are allowed inside a server.

If you own or moderate the server, open Server Settings, choose Roles, then open Apps Permissions for controls such as Use External Apps, Use Application Commands, and Use Activities.

For server-installed apps, open Server Settings, go to Integrations, select the app, then configure roles, members, channels, and command overrides.

On a work or managed computer, your organization may restrict app installs, plugin updates, or Discord access. Ask the device administrator to allow the current Stream Deck app, the official Elgato Discord plugin, and Discord desktop access.

Skip outdated Stream Deck Discord fixes

Use this when you keep seeing older fixes that do not match the current official Elgato Discord plugin.

Do not treat running Stream Deck or Discord as Administrator, wiping broad AppData folders, using Discord Developer Portal client IDs and secrets, or reconnecting old third-party StreamDeck-Discord plugins as current consumer fixes for the official Elgato plugin.

Use the supported flow instead: install the official Elgato Discord plugin, authorize from a Stream Deck Discord action or Request Access, update Stream Deck and the plugin, then remove and recreate the Discord Authorized Apps permission when the connection is stuck.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does Stream Deck keep asking for Discord authorization?

The existing Discord permission may be stale, or the Discord plugin may need an update. Remove Stream Deck from Discord Authorized Apps, then authorize again from a Stream Deck Discord action.

Do I need the official Elgato Discord plugin?

Yes. Install the Discord plugin from Elgato Marketplace, then drag a Discord action to a key to start the authorization flow.

Can I authorize Stream Deck from Discord mobile only?

No. Discord mobile can remove the old Stream Deck authorization under Authorized Apps, but the new authorization still starts from Stream Deck on the computer.

Do Discord server permissions fix Stream Deck authorization?

No. Server app permissions affect app and command behavior inside a server. They do not repair Stream Deck account authorization.
