When PlayStation Store is not working on PS5, pages fail to load, checkout stops, downloads stall, or a game you bought appears locked. Start with the PlayStation service status, then move through the console, network, account, payment, license, and Safe Mode fixes in that order. Every console, account, and payment fix below uses PlayStation-supported PS5 menus or account tools, and the network fixes follow Sony's own guidance — including a few steps, such as router firmware and port forwarding, that you make in your router admin page or with your ISP.
Check PlayStation Network status first
This fixes Store trouble caused by a PlayStation-side outage or a temporary console hang.
Open status.playstation.com.
Check PlayStation Store, Account management, and Gaming and social.
When an alert appears, wait until PlayStation marks the affected service available.
Open PlayStation Store again.
When no alert appears, press the PS button to open the control center.
Select Power.
Choose Restart PS5.
When the PS5 interface is frozen, press and hold the console power button until it beeps.
Wait for the power indicator to stop flashing.
Press the console power button again.
Test whether the PS5 is online
Open Settings > Network > Connection Status > Test Internet Connection. A failed test means the Store problem is still a connection problem, even when the PS5 menu loads.
For Wi-Fi, open Settings > Network > Settings > Set Up Internet Connection, choose your saved network, then select Connect. Enter the Wi-Fi password when the prompt appears.
For wired networking, connect a LAN cable and open Settings > Network > Settings > Set Up Internet Connection > Set Up Wired LAN > Connect. PS5 supports IPv6, but it does not support IPv6-only networks, so keep IPv4 enabled on the router.
Refresh the home network
The common network cause to clear next is a stale router connection or a weak Wi-Fi path between the PS5 and the router.
Turn off the router and modem.
Wait at least 5 minutes.
Restart the modem and router.
Open PlayStation Store after the network returns.
For Wi-Fi, move the PS5 closer to the router or remove objects interrupting the connection between the console and router.
When the connection test passes and PSN still fails, open the active connection's DNS Settings, use a free public DNS service, test the connection, and open PlayStation Store again.
Check for a router firmware update in the router admin page and install it.
Open TCP ports 80, 443, 3478, 3479, 3480 and UDP ports 3478, 3479, 49152-65535 using your router vendor or ISP instructions.
Use a static IP address for the active PS5 connection only when you are comfortable with router settings.
Update PS5 system software
This fixes Store access blocked by a failed, incomplete, or missing PS5 system software update.
Go to Settings > System.
Select System Software > System Software Update and Settings.
When Update Available appears, select Update System Software.
For a stuck system software update, open Downloads/Uploads from the control center.
Highlight the system software update.
Select View Error Info.
Choose Try Again.
When the PS5 does not update from the normal menu, turn off the console.
Hold the console power button until the second beep.
Connect the controller with a USB cable.
Press the PS button.
Select Update System Software.
For a USB update, use Sony's PS5 system software page.
Create PS5 > UPDATE on a FAT32 or exFAT USB drive.
Save the update file as PS5UPDATE.PUP inside UPDATE.
Plug the USB drive into the PS5.
Start Safe Mode by holding the console power button until the second beep.
Select Update System Software > Update from USB Storage Device > OK.
Renew your PlayStation account sign in
Store checkout and downloads fail when the PlayStation account session needs a fresh sign-in.
Go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Sign Out.
Return to Settings > Users and Accounts > Account > Sign in and sign back in.
When account sessions fail on more than one device, sign in to online Account Management, open Security, select Sign Out on All Devices, and sign in on the PS5 again through Settings > Users and Accounts > Account > Sign in.
If signing back in fails, fix the sign-in method before changing more console settings. Reset the password from Settings > Users and Accounts > Account > Sign In, enter a backup code on the 2SV verification screen, choose Can't Sign In with Passkey from the sign-in screen, or disable passkey in Account Management > Security.
Fix checkout and payment blocks
Use these steps when Store pages load but checkout stops at payment, password, or child account spending limits. Payment methods vary by country, region, and account eligibility.
Open Settings > Users and Accounts > Account > Payment and Subscriptions > Payment Methods.
Add or edit a payment method from Payment Methods.
To remove or make one default, choose the payment method, press the options button, then select Remove or Set as Default Payment Method.
In the United States, PlayStation Store accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, PayPal, Venmo, Apple Pay, and Cash App Pay.
For wallet funds, open Settings > Users and Accounts > Account > Payment and Subscriptions > Add Funds.
Select the payment method, review the amount, select Continue, then select Yes.
When checkout asks for a password, enter the account password or change Require Password at Checkout under Settings > Users and Accounts > Account > Payment and Subscriptions > Purchase Settings > Require Password at Checkout. Password at Checkout is not compatible with accounts that have passkeys set up.
For a child account, the family manager opens Settings > Family and Parental Controls > Family Management, selects the child, and changes Parental Controls > Monthly Spending Limit. Sony sets child accounts to a monthly spending limit of 0 by default.
Restore licenses and downloads
The common cause to clear first is a license, entitlement, storage, or download queue problem.
For locked or missing purchases, go to Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Restore Licenses.
Select the licenses you want to restore.
To restore one game, highlight it from the home screen or Game Library.
Press the options button.
Select Restore License.
For a stuck download, open Downloads/Uploads from the control center.
Select the problem download.
Select Pause.
Select Resume.
When the download still will not move, select Cancel and Delete.
Open Games home > Game Library > Your Collection.
Select the game.
Choose Download.
To compare required and available storage, open the game in Game Library, select the More button, and choose View Product.
Check free space in Settings > Storage.
For DLC or in-game currency that does not appear as a normal game tile, open Settings > Users and Accounts > Account > Payment and Subscriptions > Game and App Services.
Select the application.
For other users on the same PS5 who lose access to purchased games or PS Plus benefits, open Settings > Users and Accounts > Other > Console Sharing and Offline Play.
Select Enable.
Only one PS5 per account has Console Sharing and Offline Play enabled at a time.
Buy or download through PlayStation App
When only the console Store interface fails, open PlayStation App > PS Store on iOS or Android. Search for the title, select Add to Cart, confirm the purchase and payment method, then open Game Library > Purchased > Download.
For already-owned games, open PlayStation App, choose the Game Library icon, select Purchased, select the game, then choose Download to Console. For add-ons, open the game's Add-Ons screen and select Download to Console.
In a browser, open store.playstation.com, sign in, add content to the cart, and check out. Online Account Management handles Payment Method, Transaction History, Subscription, Family Management, and Security when the PS5 path does not load.
Remote download needs a linked PS5. Immediate downloading while away requires automatic downloads and rest-mode connectivity.
Run Safe Mode repairs last
Use these repairs after status, restart, network, account, payment, and license fixes have not solved Store access.
Turn off the PS5.
Hold the console power button until the second beep.
Connect the controller with a USB cable.
Press the PS button.
Select Clear Cache and Rebuild Database > Clear System Software Cache.
When Store pages or content records stay broken, start Safe Mode again.
Select Clear Cache and Rebuild Database > Rebuild Database.
Do not uninstall and reinstall PlayStation Store on PS5. PlayStation Store is not offered as a removable PS5 app.
If Safe Mode repair fails, use Settings > System > System Software > Reset Options > Restore Default Settings first because it does not erase user or game data. After that, back up your data and use Reset PS5 or Reset PS5 (Reinstall System Software) from Safe Mode only as the final repair step; those reset options delete user data.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I confirm a PS Store purchase went through?
On PS5, open Settings > Users and Accounts > Account > Payment and Subscriptions > Transaction History, choose the account and date range, select Continue, then select the transaction. On the web, use Account Management > Transaction History; only the family manager sees family members' transactions.
Does Voice Command repair PlayStation Store errors?
No. Voice Command is a navigation aid for opening games, apps, or settings. In supported US or UK English accounts, enable it from Settings > Voice Command (Preview) > Enable Voice Command; child accounts cannot enable it.
What does a suspension error mean?
A suspension is an account or console status issue, not a Store setting. Check the email sent to the sign-in ID and the account status in My Support. For account debt, use Sony's restore account access form; permanent suspensions use Sony's appeal path where it is offered. Sony says a suspended second-hand console cannot be lifted for the buyer.
How do I upgrade an eligible child account?
On PS5, open Settings > Users and Accounts > Account > Upgrade Your Account, follow the screen, then sign out and sign back in. When Upgrade Your Account is missing, the account is not eligible yet.
