If your Switch 2 won't connect to Wi-Fi, turn off Airplane Mode, restart the console and the router, then check the network password and try another network.
Check Airplane Mode and restart your Switch 2
Start with the wireless controls. In handheld or tabletop mode, open HOME Menu > System Settings > Airplane Mode > Airplane Mode and turn it off. Airplane Mode cannot be enabled in TV mode.
For a shortcut, hold the HOME button for at least one second to open Quick Settings.
Turn Airplane Mode off there, or enable the individual Wi-Fi toggle to keep Wi-Fi working while Airplane Mode stays on. If the individual toggles are absent, update the console using the alternative connection steps below.
Hold POWER for at least three seconds to open the power menu.
Select Power Options > Restart. Sleep mode doesn't count as a restart.
If the console is frozen and the menu won't open, hold POWER for at least 20 seconds to force it to shut down, then press POWER once to turn it back on.
This forced shutdown is for an unresponsive console.
Run System Settings > Internet > Test Connection.
Record the results and any error code. Repeat the test after each change.
If the connection still fails, restart your modem and router next. For an error-specific fix, enter the complete code, including its hyphen, in Nintendo Support's search field.
Give your modem and router a fresh start
Restart your home network, then search for Wi-Fi again.
- 1.Disconnect power from both the modem and router, including the modem's backup battery if needed to power it down.
- 2.Wait 30 seconds, then reconnect the modem and wait for steady lights.
- 3.Reconnect the router and wait for it to finish starting.
- 4.Open System Settings > Internet > Internet Settings on your Switch 2 and press Y to search again.
- 5.Select your network and enter its wireless password if prompted.
- 6.Let the connection test finish, then select OK when it succeeds.
Move closer if your network is missing or unreliable
Use this check when your Switch 2 cannot find the router or the wireless connection is unreliable. Test the placement before digging into connection settings.
Remove the console from its dock.
Test it about 3 to 5 meters, or 10 to 16 feet, from the router.
Move nearby metal objects and interfering electronics away from the console and router.
Position the router centrally and above floor level, with fewer walls between it and the console. Keep it away from the back of a TV, metal, glass, crowded wiring, and other wireless equipment.
During first-time setup or a transfer from an original Switch, search again from another room if the router's room contains lots of electronics.
If you're using Bluetooth audio with 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi, disconnect the audio device.
Run System Settings > Internet > Test Connection again. Wired audio or the router's 5 GHz network are alternatives for avoiding Bluetooth audio interference.
Match the network name and password
Open System Settings > Internet > Internet Settings and select your network name, also called its SSID. Enter its wireless password when prompted. Select OK after the connection test finishes.
To correct saved details, open System Settings > Internet > Internet Settings > your network > Change Settings. Match SSID and Security, including the password, to your router's configuration. Select Save > OK.
For a hidden network, open System Settings > Internet > Internet Settings > Manual Setup. Enter its SSID and Security details. Enable Connect to a Hidden Network, then select Save > Connect to this Network.
Alternatively, ask your router administrator or ISP to enable SSID broadcasting so the network appears in the normal search. The router menu depends on its model.
Try the other Wi-Fi band and check compatibility
Select your router's other band through System Settings > Internet > Internet Settings. Switch 2 supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks.
Enter that network's password.
Let the connection test finish.
Ask your ISP to identify each band's network name if the names don't distinguish them.
Check the router's wireless configuration if the network remains unavailable or its name is grayed out. Switch 2 supports 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax modes, so set the router to one of those modes. It connects on the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz band. Security options include WPA2-PSK(AES) and WPA3-SAE(AES).
Replace WEP security with a supported AES-based option if your router uses it. WEP advice for older Switch models does not apply to Switch 2, which does not support it.
Ask your ISP or router administrator to change the wireless channel if nearby networks are causing interference.
Tip: Follow your router manufacturer's instructions because there is no universal router menu or channel number.
Restore connection settings if Wi-Fi joins but internet access fails
Check saved IP, DNS, and proxy settings when the console reaches your network but cannot get online. DNS changes won't restore a missing Wi-Fi signal or fix a wrong password.
Open System Settings > Internet > Internet Settings > your network > Change Settings.
Set IP Address Settings to Automatic for an ordinary home network.
Return DNS Settings to Automatic, Nintendo's home-network default.
Set Proxy Settings to Off unless your network requires a proxy.
Restore MTU to 1400, Nintendo's recommended default, unless your ISP specifies another value.
Select Save.
For persistent DNS trouble, try Google's public DNS by opening DNS Settings > Manual.
Hold B to erase an existing address when editing it.
Enter 8.8.8.8 under Primary DNS.
Confirm with OK.
Enter 8.8.4.4 under Secondary DNS.
Confirm with OK.
Select Save.
If internet access still fails, open several websites on another device using the same Wi-Fi.
If that device also fails, check the modem's incoming connection.
Check the cable from the modem to the router's WAN or Internet port.
If all devices remain offline, contact your ISP. If other devices work, test your Switch 2 on a different network next.
Use another connection to get online and update
An alternative connection provides internet access for an update and helps isolate the Wi-Fi problem.
Connect at another location through System Settings > Internet > Internet Settings. Success there points toward your original network environment.
For a temporary alternative, enable your phone's hotspot using the phone manufacturer's instructions.
Select the hotspot's network name in System Settings > Internet > Internet Settings. Nintendo supports mobile hotspots; reliability depends on signal strength.
For wired access, connect your router to the Switch 2 dock's Ethernet port with an Ethernet cable.
Insert the console into its dock.
Open System Settings > Internet > Internet Settings > Wired Connection > Connect to the Internet via Wired Connection.
Select OK after the connection test completes. Ethernet provides internet access without repairing Wi-Fi itself.
Once online, open System Settings > System > System Update to check for and download available updates.
If updating fails, restart through Power Options > Restart after holding POWER for at least three seconds.
Retry System Settings > System > System Update.
Test your original Wi-Fi connection again after updating.
Resolve registration on hotel or public Wi-Fi
If you see Registration is Required to Use This Network, hold POWER for at least three seconds to open the power menu.
Select Power Options > Restart.
Reconnect through System Settings > Internet > Internet Settings.
Check for an update through System Settings > System > System Update, using another working connection if necessary.
Contact the network administrator if authentication still fails.
If device registration is required, find System MAC Address under System Settings > Internet.
Provide that address to the network administrator.
Tip: Try another access point if the public network still won't let you connect.
Get support when the connection still fails
If your Switch 2 works elsewhere but still won't connect at home, contact the router manufacturer for firmware-update instructions for your exact model. Use its official administration interface and firmware source.
If other network troubleshooting fails, ask the manufacturer to guide a router factory reset and the network setup afterward. A router reset removes its existing configuration.
If your console still cannot detect access points at multiple locations after troubleshooting, contact Nintendo Support.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a Nintendo Account to connect my Switch 2 to Wi-Fi?
No. A Nintendo Account is unnecessary for basic internet connectivity, although individual online services have their own account requirements.
What should I check for errors 2811-7503 or 2811-7504?
Check Nintendo's Network Maintenance Information/Operational Status page for a service interruption. If an interruption is listed, retry after it ends. These service errors do not explain a missing Wi-Fi network.
Why can I get online but not join multiplayer games?
Multiplayer needs network access that some NAT configurations and network policies restrict. Check NAT Type through System Settings > Internet > Test Connection.
Do I need a USB LAN adapter to use Ethernet on Switch 2?
No. The Switch 2 dock has a built-in Ethernet port, so its wired connection requires no additional USB LAN adapter.
