Your Meta glasses microphone can stop listening for voice commands or make your voice sound broken, choppy, or extremely quiet on calls. Start with the Meta AI app controls built for microphone troubleshooting, then move through updates, restarts, Bluetooth cleanup, app connections, pairing, and reset. Current Meta AI glasses use Hey Meta or OK Meta, not older Ray-Ban Stories voice-control wording.

Turn voice wake controls back on

This fixes glasses that ignore Hey Meta or do not respond to a basic voice command. Open the Meta AI mobile app and go to Glasses. Tap Device settings, then under Glasses, tap your glasses. Open Meta AI and tap Hey Meta preferences.

Turn on Hey Meta and Wake sound. Say Hey Meta, how much battery is left?. If the glasses still do not respond, turn Hey Meta and Wake sound off. Turn Hey Meta and Wake sound back on and try the battery command again.

Enable Microphone adjustment

Open the Meta AI mobile app and go to Glasses. Tap Device settings, then swipe down to Microphone troubleshooting. Turn on Microphone adjustment, then try another voice command after the setting is enabled.

For Ray-Ban Meta glasses, make sure the glasses are up to date and the Meta AI app is version 143 or later, then open the settings gear and go to Glasses & privacy, or tap your glasses and go to Glasses & privacy, Your glasses, Microphone troubleshooting, and Microphone adjustment. Use this setting when the mic responds but sounds weak or inconsistent.

Set call audio before you dial

When people say your voice is broken, choppy, or extremely quiet on a Ray-Ban Meta call, turn on Microphone adjustment before placing the test call. Open the Meta AI app settings gear and go to Glasses & privacy, or tap your glasses and open Glasses & privacy, Your glasses, Microphone troubleshooting, and Microphone adjustment.

Do not switch Microphone adjustment on or off during the call. Set it first, then start a new call so the glasses use the setting cleanly.

If the next call still sounds poor, turn Microphone adjustment back off, then unpair and re-pair the glasses using the pairing steps below. Work through the update and restart steps as well, because a call problem can come from the glasses software, the phone connection, or the calling app.

Update the glasses and Meta AI app

This fixes microphone issues caused by outdated glasses software or an outdated companion app. Open the Meta AI mobile app and go to Glasses. Tap Device settings, then under Glasses, tap your glasses.

Open Updates and tap Check. Turn on Automatic updates from the same Updates screen. On Android, open Google Play. Find Meta AI by Meta Platforms, Inc., then tap Install or Update.

Restart or force restart the glasses

Slide the power button back to turn the glasses off, wait a few seconds, then slide the power button forward to turn the glasses back on. Wait for the glasses to reconnect to the Meta AI mobile app.

For Ray-Ban Meta or Oakley Meta HSTN glasses, slide the power button back to turn the glasses off. Press and hold the capture button, and while holding the capture button, slide the power button forward. Release the capture button as soon as the status LED turns red.

For Meta Ray-Ban Display, close both arms. Slide the power switch away from the lenses until the red line shows. Hold the capture button and slide the power switch toward the lenses. When the LED turns red, release the capture button.

Wait about 17 seconds. A force restart does not delete captures or require re-pairing.

Fix Bluetooth problems near your phone

The most common connection-side cause is distance or interference between the glasses and your phone. Move closer to your phone before testing the microphone again, and keep the phone in front of you or in a front pocket so the glasses have a cleaner Bluetooth path.

Turn off or disconnect other Bluetooth devices from the phone while you test. On Android, when the microphone problem appears during video calls or livestreaming from the glasses, turn on Wi-Fi, turn off VPN, and turn off Hotspot. Start the call or livestream again.

Reconnect Messenger WhatsApp or another app

Use this when the glasses microphone works for voice commands but fails in a calling, messaging, livestreaming, or connected-app flow. The app connection is the broken part when the glasses mic works elsewhere.

For Messenger, update the app from the Apple App Store by searching for Messenger and tapping Update, or tap Open if it is already current. On iPhone, open the Settings app and go to Privacy & Security, Bluetooth, and Messenger, then turn it on.

Reconnect Messenger in the Meta AI app by tapping Glasses in the top right, then Device settings, and under Glasses, tap your glasses. Open Communication, tap Messenger, then tap Disconnect. Return to Communication and tap Connect next to Messenger.

For WhatsApp, open the Meta AI app, tap Glasses in the top right, tap Device settings, and under Glasses, tap your glasses, then open Communication. Tap Connect next to WhatsApp and follow the connection prompts.

For a partner app, update the glasses, Meta AI mobile app, and connected app, then open App connections, disconnect the app, and reconnect it. Restart the glasses afterward if the app connection still fails.

Pair the glasses again

Re-pairing applies when the mic issue follows an unstable Meta AI app connection, failed setup, or repeated Bluetooth confusion. AI glasses pair with only one Meta Account at a time, so re-pairing can clear a phone connection mismatch, but moving the glasses to a different Meta Account requires a factory reset first.

In the Meta AI mobile app, go to Glasses, Device settings, and under Glasses, tap your glasses. Open General, choose Unpair glasses, and tap Unpair. Forget or remove the glasses from your phone's Bluetooth connected devices when they still appear there.

Remove the glasses from the case, turn them on with the left-frame power switch, then put the glasses back in the case. Wait for the case LED to flash blue, or hold the case back button for at least 5 seconds.

In the Meta AI mobile app, go to Glasses, tap Add, and follow the on-screen instructions. If pairing still fails, make sure the glasses are charged, on, and in the case, hold the case pairing button for 5 seconds, forget the glasses from phone Bluetooth again, delete and reinstall the Meta AI mobile app, and try pairing one more time.

Reset only after the simpler fixes fail

Use these last-resort steps when microphone troubleshooting, updates, restarts, connection fixes, and re-pairing do not bring the mic back. A factory reset deletes all captures on the glasses and requires you to unpair and then pair the glasses again with the Meta AI mobile app, so save anything you want to keep first.

  1. 1.Factory reset Ray-Ban Meta or Oakley Meta glasses by taking them out of the case, making sure they are charged and powered on, folding both arms closed, pressing the capture button 5 times until the LED turns orange, then pressing and holding the capture button until the LED flashes.
  2. 2.After the factory reset, unpair and pair the glasses again in the Meta AI mobile app.
  3. 3.Factory reset the charging case only when case or charging trouble affects setup or reliable use: remove the glasses from the case, then press and hold the button on the back of the case for more than 16 seconds.
  4. 4.If the failure keeps returning, open the Meta AI mobile app, tap the top-left menu or profile icon, go to Settings, Help & support, and Submit a report, then follow the on-screen instructions.
  5. 5.Contact Meta Store Support or use Ray-Ban's warranty or assistance portal when the microphone still fails after reset. Ray-Ban handles defective glasses outside the return window as warranty claims with the serial number and proof of purchase.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does Hey Meta not hear me even though the glasses are connected?

The wake controls may be off or stuck. Turn on Hey Meta and Wake sound in the Meta AI app, then toggle both off and back on if the first battery test command still fails.

Should I use Hey Facebook with Meta glasses?

No. Current Meta AI glasses troubleshooting uses Hey Meta or OK Meta. Hey Facebook belongs to older Ray-Ban Stories-era guidance.

Will a force restart erase my photos or videos?

No. A force restart on Ray-Ban Meta or Oakley Meta HSTN glasses does not delete captures and does not require re-pairing.

When should I contact support for a microphone problem?

Contact Meta Store Support or start a Ray-Ban warranty or assistance claim after microphone adjustment, updates, restarts, re-pairing, and factory reset fail.
