Life360 notifications stop showing up when phone alerts are blocked, a Circle alert is off, or the app is restricted in the background. Start with notification access, then check Life360’s own alert settings and the permissions behind Places, drives, and safety events. The fixes below follow current Life360, Apple, Google, and Samsung guidance.
Turn Life360 notifications back on
On iPhone, open Settings, tap Apps, tap Life360, then tap Notifications. You can also reach the same controls from Settings, then Notifications, then Life360.
Turn Allow Notifications on.
Turn Time Sensitive Notifications on.
For Life360 emergency alerts on iPhone, open Settings, then Notifications, then Life360, and turn Critical Alerts on where the option appears.
On Android, open Settings, tap Apps, choose Life360, then tap Notifications.
Turn notifications on for Life360.
On Android phones with categories, open Settings, then Notifications, then App notifications, then Life360, then Notification categories, and turn on each category you want. On Samsung Galaxy phones, first open Settings, then Notifications, then Advanced settings, and turn on Manage notification categories for each app, because the per-app categories stay hidden until that switch is on.
For sound on Android, tap the category, tap Sound, then pick the alert sound.
After changing these settings, wait for a new Life360 alert before deciding whether the fix worked.
Check Life360 Smart Notifications
The most common app-side cause is that the specific Life360 alert type is turned off for the Circle member you care about.
Open Life360, go to Settings, then open Smart Notifications.
Make sure the Circle has at least one member, because Smart Notifications require a member before they can be used or edited.
Turn on the alerts you want, such as Low Battery Notifications, Safety Incidents, or Safe Drive Notifications, then select the Circle members each of those alerts should apply to.
Severe weather alerts is a single toggle you turn off or on for the Circle, not a per-member setting.
For driving alerts, open Settings, then Drive Detection, and turn it on.
Repeat Drive Detection on each Circle member’s device, because Life360 monitors driving from the phone being tracked.
Keep the monitored phone above 20% battery, since Life360 does not monitor driving behavior at 20% battery or lower.
Fix Place alerts for arrivals and departures
This fixes Life360 notifications that fail when someone reaches or leaves Home, School, Work, or another saved Place.
Open Life360 and tap the Places icon under the map.
Select the Place that should send alerts.
Turn on the Arrives or Leaves toggle to the right of each member or pet you want notifications for.
To create a new Place, tap the Places icon below the map.
Tap Add a new Place.
Enter the Place details, then tap Got it.
Use the bell icon to the right of the Place and turn it on.
Keep Places from overlapping or touching, because Life360 says overlapping Places cause inaccurate alerts.
Let Life360 break through Focus and Do Not Disturb
Silent iPhone alerts often come from Focus, Do Not Disturb, or notification delivery settings instead of Life360. Open Settings, then Focus, then Do Not Disturb, then Allow Notifications, and add Life360 under apps.
You can also open Control Center, touch and hold Focus or Do Not Disturb, and turn Do Not Disturb off. If Siri is enabled, ask Siri to turn Do Not Disturb on or off.
Next, open Settings, then Notifications, then Life360. Turn Allow Notifications on, choose Lock Screen, Notification Center, and Banners, and set delivery to immediate when Life360 was placed in Scheduled Summary.
For Scheduled Summary, open Settings, then Notifications, then Scheduled Summary, and remove Life360 from the summary list or turn Scheduled Summary off. On Samsung, touch and hold Do not disturb in Quick settings, open Allowed during Do not disturb, then App notifications, and select Life360. If this method fails, check Life360’s location and motion permissions next, because the app may not be detecting the event that should trigger the alert.
Set the permissions Life360 needs
Life360 needs always-on location access with precise location for map updates, Place Alerts, and location sharing. On iPhone, open Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Location Services, tap Life360, set it to Always, and turn Precise Location on.
On Pixel, open Settings, then Location, then App location permissions, then Life360, choose Allow all the time, and turn Use precise location on.
On Samsung, open Settings, then Location, then App permissions, then Life360, choose Allow all the time, and turn Use precise location on.
For driving analytics, Driving Safety, and Crash Detection notifications, allow motion access too. On iPhone, open Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Motion & Fitness, and turn Life360 on.
On Pixel, open Settings, then Apps, then Life360, then Permissions, then Physical Activity, and tap Allow.
On Samsung, open Settings, then Apps, then Life360, then Permissions, then Physical Activity, and tap Allow.
For Bluetooth-dependent Life360 alerts, turn device Bluetooth on. On iPhone, open Settings, then Bluetooth, then turn Bluetooth on. For Life360’s iOS Bluetooth permission, open Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Bluetooth, then Life360, and turn Bluetooth on.
On Android, open Settings, then Life360, then Bluetooth or the Bluetooth symbol, and turn Bluetooth on. Set Nearby Devices to Allow.
Stop battery and data limits from delaying alerts
This fixes Life360 notifications that fail when the phone is trying to save battery or restrict background data.
On Android, open Settings, then Apps, then Life360, then Battery, and remove restrictions or choose Unrestricted.
On Samsung, open Settings, then Battery and device care, then Battery, then Background usage limits, then Never sleeping apps, tap +, select Life360, and tap Add.
If Life360 is listed under Sleeping apps or Deep sleeping apps on Samsung, use More options, then Remove apps, then Life360, then Remove.
On Pixel, swipe down from the top of the screen and turn Battery Saver off.
For Pixel Extreme Battery Saver, open Settings, then Battery, then Battery Saver, then Extreme Battery Saver, then Essential apps, and pick Life360.
On Android, open Settings, then Network & internet, then Data Saver, and turn Data Saver off.
To keep Data Saver on, open Unrestricted data from the same Data Saver screen and turn Life360 on.
On iPhone, turn off Low Power Mode in Settings, then Battery, or use Settings, then Battery, then Power Mode on iPhone 15 or later.
For iPhone Low Data Mode on an LTE/4G plan, open Settings, then Cellular, then Cellular Data Options, and turn Low Data Mode off. On a 5G plan, open Settings, then Cellular, then Cellular Data Options, then Data Mode, and turn Low Data Mode off. For Wi-Fi, open Settings, then Wi-Fi, tap the info button next to the current network, and turn Low Data Mode off.
Refresh Life360 without reinstalling it
Use Life360’s refresh steps when permissions look right but notifications still do not arrive:
- 1.Open Life360, tap Settings in the upper-left corner, and tap Log Out.
- 2.On Android, open Settings, then Apps, then Life360, then Storage, then tap Clear Cache and Clear Data.
- 3.On iPhone, open the Recently Used apps view, find Life360, and swipe up to close it.
- 4.Power the phone off briefly, then turn it back on.
- 5.Open Life360 and log in again with the same email or phone number and password.
Older guides often tell you to uninstall and reinstall Life360, but Life360’s current refresh guidance says not to uninstall the app. Use the log out, refresh, restart, and log back in flow instead.
Update Life360 from the official store
An outdated app leaves you fighting settings that no longer match current Life360 behavior. Update Life360 from the official Apple App Store or Google Play path only, or use Life360’s official download page to reach those store links.
On iPhone or iPad, open App Store, tap the My Account button or your photo, go to App Updates, then tap Update next to Life360 or tap Update All.
To turn on automatic updates on iPhone or iPad, open Settings, then Apps, then App Store, and turn App Updates on.
On Android, open Google Play Store, tap the profile icon, then Manage apps & device, then Updates available, then See details, and tap Update next to Life360 or tap Update all.
For automatic updates on Android, use Google Play, then the profile picture, then Settings, then Network Preferences, then Auto-update apps. For only Life360, use Manage apps & device, then Manage, then Life360, then More, then Enable auto update. If this method fails, reconnect the device from Life360 by opening Settings in the upper-left corner, tapping Log Out, force closing Life360, powering off the phone for at least two minutes, and logging back in with the same email or phone number and password.
Remove VPN and managed device blockers
The most common outside blocker is a VPN, parental-control app, security app, or work profile interfering with Life360 in the background.
Life360 says not to use a VPN with Life360 and to avoid parental-control or security apps that interfere with the service.
Turn those off while testing alerts, then check whether Life360 notifications start arriving again.
On a managed iPhone or iPad, some restrictions can only be changed by the administrator.
On Android work devices, make sure Life360 is not installed only inside a paused Work Profile, because pausing the profile disables work apps and their notifications.
As a final basics check, confirm the phone is on, cellular data works, Wi-Fi is on, Airplane Mode is off, Life360 is updated, Physical Activity is allowed, the VPN is off, and Life360 is opened every two days so the app does not fall into sleep mode.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why am I getting some Life360 notifications but not Place alerts?
Place alerts have their own Arrives and Leaves toggles for each member or pet. Open the Place in Life360 and turn on the specific alerts you want; also keep Places from overlapping or touching.
Do Life360 notifications work when Do Not Disturb is on?
Regular Life360 notifications are silenced unless Life360 is allowed through Focus or Do Not Disturb. The exception is Life360 Critical Alerts for SOS events and detected crashes, which are supported on iOS and bypass settings such as Mute and Do Not Disturb once they are enabled in your device settings. On iPhone, add Life360 under allowed apps for Do Not Disturb, or turn Do Not Disturb off while testing.
Should I uninstall Life360 to fix notifications?
No. Life360’s current app refresh steps say not to uninstall the app. Log out, refresh app data or force close the app, restart the phone, and log back in instead.
Why do Safe Drive notifications stop working?
Safe Drive alerts need Drive Detection enabled on each Circle member’s device, and Life360 says driving behavior is not monitored when the device battery is 20% or less.
