Fallout 4 mods not working on Xbox can stop the game at the main menu, break downloads, scramble load order, or hide the Creations menu completely. The current Xbox path is Creations, not the old separate Mods and Creation Club menus. Start with the quick reset, then move through the Xbox and Bethesda.net fixes that clear the real blockers.

Restart Fallout 4 cleanly

Start here when the main menu, Creations menu, or mod loading state is stuck.

  1. 1.Press the Xbox button on your controller.
  2. 2.Highlight the Fallout 4 game tile.
  3. 3.Press the Menu button.
  4. 4.Select Quit.
  5. 5.Restart Fallout 4 from the Home screen and open Creations.

Use Creations instead of the old Mods menu

This fixes missing-menu confusion after the Anniversary Edition change.

Open Fallout 4 and choose Creations from the main menu.

Stop using old instructions that point to separate Mods or Creation Club menus. Bethesda combined them into Creations on November 10, 2025.

Ignore old Xbox mod-limit advice that says the cap is 2GB. Use the current storage limits instead: 100GB on Xbox Series X|S and about 15GB on Xbox One.

Use Bethesda.net Creations for Xbox console mods. Direct Nexus, USB, and file-system mod installs are not the supported Xbox console path.

Turn off the broken Creation

Once Fallout 4 reaches the menu, isolate the Creation that is causing crashes, loading loops, UI problems, or sign-in trouble. Disable one item, test the game, then repeat until the bad install is clear.

Open Creations, choose Category List, open My Library, select the Creation, and choose Disable.

You can also open Creations, go to Load Order, and deselect the Creation there.

When a Creation is outdated, removed, corrupt, or incompatible, open Creations, choose Category List, open My Library, select it, and choose Delete.

If this method fails, open the Bethesda.net Creations website, go to Library, select the item, choose Unsubscribe [-], then relaunch Fallout 4.

Disable every Creation at once

Use this when one installed mod is breaking the game, but you do not want to uninstall everything yet.

  1. 1.Open Fallout 4 and wait for the main menu.
  2. 2.Select Creations.
  3. 3.Open Options.
  4. 4.Choose Disable all Creations.
  5. 5.Restart Fallout 4 and test the game before turning anything back on.

Clear reserved space without deleting saves

This fixes deleted mods that still appear, stuck storage, startup failures, and games that cannot load far enough to remove Creations normally.

Open My Games and Apps, then choose Games.

Highlight Fallout 4 and press the Menu button.

Select Manage Game.

Open Saved Data.

Select Reserved Space.

Press the Menu button and choose Clear reserved space.

Leave your actual save file alone.

Fix load order and storage

The most common cause is a load order that cannot save because files are duplicated, outdated, or arranged in the wrong order.

Open Fallout 4, go to Creations, then open Load Order.

Keep .ESM and .ESL files above .ESP files.

Remove duplicate file names when load order changes refuse to save.

Update installed Creations before rebuilding the order.

Free storage by opening Creations, then Library, selecting a mod, and choosing Delete.

Check Bethesda.net sign-in and Xbox privacy

When Creations will not open or Bethesda.net access fails, sign in at Bethesda.net account management and confirm your username and password. Fallout 4 must use the Bethesda.net account linked to your Xbox account.

If account linking fails, sign in to Bethesda.net, select your Username at the top right, then open Linked Accounts. For login recovery, use Help find my account or I forgot my password on the Bethesda.net sign-in page.

If you enter credentials with a keyboard, type capital letters with SHIFT instead of CAPS LOCK.

On Xbox, open Profile & system > Settings > General > Online safety & family > Privacy & online safety > Xbox privacy > View details & customize > Game content, then set You can see and upload community creations to Everyone. For a child account, a family organizer changes that same setting through Xbox Family Settings or Family settings on the console.

Repair network errors

Use this when Fallout 4 cannot reach Bethesda.net, downloads fail, the Creations menu times out, or a Bethesda.net server error appears. Check Bethesda Status and Xbox status first; when either service is down, wait and retry before changing local files.

Run the Xbox network test through Profile & system > Settings > General > Network settings > Test network connection.

Restart your home network by turning off the modem or router, unplugging the power connections, waiting a few minutes, plugging everything back in, and retrying Fallout 4 Creations.

Switch the Xbox from Wi-Fi to Ethernet and test Creations again.

Connect the Xbox to another network and retest Creations.

Open your router settings and allow TCP 80, TCP 443, UDP/TCP 3478, UDP/TCP 3479, and UDP 3480.

For DNS trouble, open Profile & system > Settings > General > Network settings > Advanced settings > DNS settings > Manual. Note your original DNS values first, then set primary DNS to 8.8.8.8 and secondary DNS to 8.8.4.4.

Update or reinstall Fallout 4

This fixes persistent crashing, stuck loading, and mod problems that survive the Creations, storage, account, and network fixes.

Open Profile & system, then Settings, then System, then Updates.

Turn on Keep my console up to date and Keep my games & apps up to date, or install any available update manually.

Relaunch Fallout 4.

Update or reinstall the Creations you still want to use. After game updates, installed Creations can stop working until their creators update them.

If nothing else works, open My games & apps, highlight Fallout 4, press the Menu button, choose Manage game & add-ons or Manage Game, and uninstall the game itself only.

Do not delete save files.

Reinstall Fallout 4 from your library, disc, or the Xbox Store page, then test Creations before rebuilding your full mod setup.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are my Fallout 4 mods missing on Xbox?

Open Creations from the Fallout 4 main menu. Bethesda combined the old Mods and Creation Club menus into Creations on November 10, 2025.

Will clearing reserved space delete my Fallout 4 saves?

Clearing Reserved Space removes Fallout 4's stored Creations data on the console. It does not require deleting the actual save file, so leave the save file untouched.

Why will my Fallout 4 load order not save?

Duplicate file names, outdated Creations, and file order cause load order save problems. Keep .ESM and .ESL files above .ESP files, remove duplicates, and update Creations.

Can I install Nexus or USB mods directly on Fallout 4 for Xbox?

Use Bethesda.net Creations for Xbox console mods. Nexus, USB, and direct file-system mod steps are not the supported Xbox console method.
