Facebook login issues can block you with a forgotten password, a missing two-factor code, bad saved login info, or an account-security warning. Start with the recovery tools Facebook supports now, then clean up the browser or app if the account itself is fine.

1. Use Facebook Account Recovery First

Start here when Facebook will not let you in: use the account recovery page on a device and browser you have used for Facebook before.

  1. 1.Go to facebook.com/login/identify.
  2. 2.Enter an email address or mobile phone number linked to your account.
  3. 3.Select the account Facebook finds.
  4. 4.Follow the on-screen instructions.

If Facebook does not find the account, try every email address and mobile number you have added. You can also enter the username from your Facebook profile URL.

2. Reset Your Forgotten Password

  1. 1.Open the Facebook login screen.
  2. 2.Select Forgot password?
  3. 3.Enter your email address, mobile number, full name, or username.
  4. 4.Select Search.
  5. 5.Follow Facebook's password reset prompts.

Use this reset flow when the password is the problem. For mobile-number recovery, include the country code. If Facebook rejects the number, enter it again without zeros, plus signs, or other special characters.

3. Get Past Two-Factor Authentication

Two-factor authentication only works with a method already connected to your Facebook account.

  • SMS code Enter the 6-digit security code sent to your mobile phone.
  • Authentication app Open the authentication app linked to Facebook, copy the current code, and enter it in Facebook.
  • Recovery code Choose the recovery-code option and enter one of your saved recovery login codes.
  • Security key Tap, insert, or activate your registered U2F or FIDO2 security key when Facebook asks for it.
  • Passkey A passkey is a passwordless sign-in that replaces your password, not a 2FA code, but if you created one it can get you in: choose the passkey option, then confirm with biometrics, screen lock, or your security key.

Use the option Facebook shows on the login screen. After you get back in, create fresh recovery codes from Menu > Settings & privacy > Settings > Accounts Center > Password and security > Two-factor authentication.

4. Remove Bad Saved Login Info

  1. 1.Open Menu.
  2. 2.Select Accounts Center.
  3. 3.Choose Password and security.
  4. 4.Select Saved login.
  5. 5.Pick the saved login info you want to remove.

Saved login data can keep sending you to the wrong account or reusing old credentials. Clear the saved entry, then return to the login screen and type the correct email, phone number, username, and password yourself.

5. Clean Up Facebook In Your Browser

If Facebook works on another device or in the app, the browser is the place to fix next.

  • Refresh and reopen Refresh the page, then close it and reopen it.
  • Chrome on computer Open More > Delete browsing data, choose a time range and data types, then select Delete data.
  • Chrome on Android Open More > Delete browsing data, choose a duration, then select Delete data.
  • Safari on iPhone or iPad Go to Settings > Apps > Safari > Clear History and Website Data, choose a timeframe, then tap Clear History.
  • Safari on Mac Open Safari > History > Clear History, then choose how far back to clear.
  • Firefox Open Settings > Privacy & Security, then clear cookies, site data, and cache.
  • Microsoft Edge Go to Settings and more > Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Clear browsing data > Choose what to clear, then select Clear now.
  • Browser update Update the browser after clearing the cache or trying another browser.

6. Repair The Facebook App

App login loops are usually fixed by updating the app, clearing the Android cache, or reinstalling from an official store. On iPhone or iPad, open App Store, tap the My Account button or your photo, go to App Updates, then select Update next to Facebook. On Android, open Google Play Store, tap the profile icon, choose Manage apps & device, find Facebook under updates, then tap Update.

To clear the Android cache, open Settings > Apps or Applications > Facebook > Storage > Clear cache. To reinstall on Android, go to Settings > Application manager > Facebook > Uninstall, restart the device, then reinstall Facebook.

Use facebook.com/install, the Facebook page in the App Store, or the Facebook page in Google Play for the clean install. On Android, Facebook Lite from Google Play is also an official option for low storage, slow networks, or older devices.

7. Recover A Hacked Or Locked Account

  • Hacked account Go to facebook.com/hacked from a device you have used to log into Facebook before.
  • Security-locked account Open Facebook, select Get started, and follow the on-screen steps.
  • Security check completed Wait 24 hours before trying to log in again.
  • Suspended or disabled account Log into Facebook within 180 days of the suspension and follow the appeal prompts.
  • ID confirmation requested Take a close-up photo of your ID with a camera or mobile device, then follow Facebook's upload instructions.

Security warnings need the matching Facebook flow, so pick the message that matches what you see. If you can still open Facebook account tools, check Account Status. When Meta's AI support assistant appears for account help, use it there; it does not replace account recovery when you are fully locked out.

8. Skip Old Recovery Tricks

Do not use old Facebook recovery advice as your main fix. The current recovery paths in the supplied July 2026 research are facebook.com/login/identify, facebook.com/hacked, two-factor login methods, recovery codes, ID upload, and contact-info recovery.

The old Facebook Code Generator flow does not belong in the working steps above, and Facebook no longer lets you set up new Trusted Contacts. Still, if Facebook offers to confirm your identity through trusted contacts you previously designated, follow that on-screen option. For a work or organization-managed Meta account, select Forgotten your password? or Try another way from the login prompt. If Facebook says an admin must investigate, contact your organization admin.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Facebook send a one-time password by text?

Yes. Text otp to 32665 from the mobile number linked to your Facebook account, then use the temporary password Facebook sends back. Facebook says this is not available when two-factor authentication is turned on.

What if I no longer have access to the email or phone on my Facebook account?

Use facebook.com/login/identify from a device you used before, enter a known email address or phone number, and follow Facebook's prompts. If the account was taken over, use facebook.com/hacked.

Can another person recover my Facebook account for me?

No. Another person can show you the Hacked Accounts or Account Recovery page, but you need to run recovery yourself on a device you usually use for Facebook.

Can I use another Meta account to log in?

Only if the accounts were already in the same Accounts Center and set to allow accounts to log into each other before the login problem started.
