Your eero Wi-Fi is down, one device refuses to connect, or the signal disappears in the next room. Start by checking how many devices are affected, then use the matching fixes below to get connected again. Save resets for after the simpler checks.
Start with a simple restart
Try connecting on two different devices. If only one fails, jump to the device connection fixes below. If both fail, start with your eero equipment.
Disconnect power from the affected eero and wait 30 seconds.
Reconnect it and allow approximately two minutes for startup.
If the eero is reachable through the app, you can restart it from Home: select the eero, tap the more-options icon, and choose Restart. Restarting the gateway interrupts the network.
Still offline across your devices? Check your internet provider and the equipment feeding your gateway next.
Check your provider and gateway connection
A modem connection problem or an ISP outage can leave your entire eero network without internet unless a backup connection you have set up, such as eero Hotspot Backup, takes over.
Check your provider’s outage page. The provider must resolve a confirmed service outage.
Reseat the Ethernet cable connecting your modem to the gateway eero.
If the connection remains unreliable, try another Ethernet cable.
Disconnect power from the modem or optical network terminal, also called an ONT, for at least three minutes. Ask your ISP to reset an inaccessible or battery-backed ONT.
Reconnect power and allow five to ten minutes for service to return.
Restart the gateway eero after the modem or ONT has recovered.
If an eero’s light is dark, select that eero in the app and enable its LED under Status light. A disabled light does not mean the unit has lost power.
For an eero that has no power, reseat its power connections. On USB-C models, use the supplied eero adapter and cable.
Try another outlet, bypassing any power strip.
Inspect the power adapter for damage.
Let the eero app diagnose the connection
Connect your phone to the eero network, even if it has no internet.
Open the eero app and select Home. Under Offline, tap the arrow beside Troubleshoot your connection.
If that option is absent, open Settings > Troubleshooting and select the matching symptom: My internet is offline, My internet connection drops, My internet is slow, or My eero's light is red.
Follow the diagnosis and its recommended actions.
Get a single device back online
If everything else connects, start with the device that’s giving you trouble. Shut it down completely and wait 30 seconds.
Restart it and reconnect to eero.
Check the password in the eero app under Settings > Wifi name & password. Use that password when reconnecting. Changing it disconnects existing wireless clients.
On an iPhone or iPad, open Settings > Wi-Fi, tap the information button beside your network, and choose Forget This Network.
Select the network again and enter its password.
On Android, open Settings > Network & internet > Wi-Fi, hold the network name, and select Forget network. Labels and gestures vary by manufacturer and Android version.
Rejoin the network with the current password.
On Windows 11, turn on Wi-Fi.
Open Settings > Network & Internet > Airplane mode and turn it off.
To remove the saved connection, open Settings > Network & internet > Wi-Fi > Manage known networks, select your eero network, and choose Forget.
Reconnect using the current password.
Check for a paused device in eero: open Devices, select the device, and tap Resume device if it is paused.
For a paused profile, open Home, select the profile, and tap Resume profile.
A blocked device needs a separate change. Open Devices > Blocked, select the device, tap the more-options icon, and choose Unblock device. Device blocking controls are unavailable in bridge mode.
If the device still won’t connect, test it closer to an eero. If it fails beside the unit too, try the compatibility fixes below.
Improve coverage where the connection drops
Use these fixes when your connection works near an eero but slows down or drops elsewhere. They also help with a device that stays connected to a more distant unit.
Move the affected device closer to an eero and test again.
Reposition your eeros in open locations with fewer walls, appliances, or metal obstructions between them.
Open Settings > Troubleshooting > Coverage Scan for placement guidance. If that option is absent, continue with the placement test.
Check which eero the device uses in its device details.
Turn the device’s Wi-Fi off for five seconds.
Turn Wi-Fi back on to reconnect.
Pause heavy downloads, cloud synchronization, or simultaneous streams while retesting speed.
For a device with Ethernet, try a wired connection to an Ethernet-equipped eero.
If the wired connection also fails, test another cable and port.
In a multi-eero network, swap the affected unit with a working one to see whether the problem follows the hardware.
For a persistent coverage gap, add an eero between the weak area and the existing mesh. Open Home and tap the blue plus icon to start adding hardware.
Help older and smart-home devices connect
For a 2.4 GHz-only device that fails during setup, temporarily hide the higher Wi-Fi bands. Open Settings > Troubleshooting > My device won’t connect > My device is 2.4 GHz only, then tap Pause 5 GHz and 6 GHz.
Complete the device’s setup before the app’s displayed timer expires.
To restore the higher bands early, tap Cancel. Eero does not support permanent separate network names for its 2.4, 5, and 6 GHz bands.
For an older client that cannot detect an eero 6 or eero Pro 6 network, open Settings > Troubleshooting > My device won't connect > My device can't detect Wi-Fi 6 and enable Legacy Mode. Despite its name, this is a current compatibility feature for those models.
Update the client’s Wi-Fi driver using its manufacturer’s instructions.
Disable Legacy Mode after the driver update.
For an incompatible older client on 2.4 or 5 GHz, change the network’s encryption from the eero app’s Settings so those bands use WPA2 only.
The 6 GHz band always uses WPA3, whatever you choose for the other bands.
If the device still cannot connect, contact eero Support about Compatibility Mode. Support can enable it to disable WPA3, Client Steering, and DFS together. Ask support to reverse the change if performance suffers.
Bring the app and eero software up to date
Once your eeros are online, open Settings > Software updates and select Install now when an update is offered. All eeros receiving the update must be online, and availability is staged by network.
Allow the automatic restart to finish.
To move automatic update interruptions to a better time, open Settings > Software updates > Preferred update time and choose a time window with the appropriate AM or PM setting.
For errors in the eero app itself, install any available app update through the App Store, Google Play Store, or Amazon Appstore. Use the app troubleshooting steps in the FAQ if the error remains.
Save resets for persistent failures
After the earlier checks, try a soft reset before considering a factory reset.
- 1.Keep the eero powered on for at least 90 seconds before resetting it. Eero specifies an internet connection for its general reset procedure and also recommends physical resets for offline connection failures.
- 2.For a soft reset, hold the reset button until the LED flashes yellow, releasing within eight seconds. Ring Alarm Pro does not support a soft reset.
- 3.Allow the eero to reconnect, then test your connection. A soft reset retains network membership and advanced settings.
- 4.If the problem persists, proceed with a factory reset only when you are ready to set up the eero again. This erases its configuration. On Ring Alarm Pro, it also resets Ring settings and connected Z-Wave devices.
- 5.Hold the reset button until the LED flashes red, approximately 15 seconds, then release it. Once the light flashes blue, set up the eero again.
Turn to your ISP or eero Support
Contact support when the connection still fails after these checks or a new installation needs provider-specific settings. Your ISP handles upstream outages, connection credentials, modem firmware, and inaccessible ONTs.
For network-wide slow or unusable service, run the eero app’s speed test from Home > Internet.
On equipment with Ethernet ports, test a computer wired to the gateway.
Test the same computer wired directly to the modem and compare the results.
Power-cycle the modem before reconnecting eero after the direct-modem test.
Ask your ISP to confirm its required connection settings before changing them. Eero’s controls are on the ISP Settings page, which you reach from the app’s Settings tab. PPPoE and VLAN support requires eero 6 or newer hardware, excluding Ring Alarm Pro, with eeroOS 6.6.1 or later and app version 6.13.0 or later.
Contact eero through its regional support page. Include your eero models, LED state, app error, whether wired devices work, and whether the fault follows a unit when you swap it with another eero.
For an eero Communities installation, join the property’s signup network.
Complete the browser signup and activation flow.
Contact the property’s provider for service or administrative restrictions.
Frequently Asked Questions
What should I do if the eero app still won’t work after updating it?
Force-close and reopen eero. If the problem persists, sign out and back in, then test again. Next, toggle your phone’s Wi-Fi. Uninstall and reinstall the app if the error remains, then restart your phone. During setup, try cellular data or an existing working Wi-Fi connection.
Why does only one website or app fail on eero?
Eero Plus filtering can block a particular website or app. Open Home > Security & privacy > Network Controls. Temporarily disable Advanced Security and Ad Blocking, then retest. Restore your desired protections afterward and correct the specific restriction under Content Filters, Block apps, or Block & Allow Sites.
Why can’t my guest Wi-Fi device find my printer or speaker?
Eero guest devices are isolated from one another and from the main network. Connect the printer, speaker, and the devices that need to communicate with it to the main network.
Can I manage eero through a web browser?
Eero’s consumer network controls use the eero app. There is no general browser router-admin interface. Apple Silicon Macs can run the iPad app.
