To fix a Sleep Number bed that won’t connect to Wi-Fi, check its power, restart it, restore Bluetooth pairing, then reconnect through Change Wi-Fi in the Sleep Number app. Bluetooth must work before you can configure Wi-Fi on beds that require it for setup. If reconnecting fails, check your router’s signal, wireless mode, and security settings.

The short version

  • Restart first: Unplug the bed for 60 seconds, reconnect it, and allow 2 to 3 minutes for rebooting.
  • Pair nearby: Enable Bluetooth and the app’s permissions, then stay within 8 feet while pairing.
  • Refresh the connection: Open Smart Bed > Settings > Connectivity > Change Wi-Fi to enter your current network details.
  • Check compatibility: Try 2.4 GHz, which all Sleep Number smart beds support, and check the router’s wireless mode and security.

Check the connection status and restart the bed

Open the Sleep Number app and select Smart Bed > Settings. On smart beds and Climate collections, three green connection dots mean the bed is online and paired. Inspect those indicators to distinguish a Bluetooth pairing problem from a Wi-Fi connection problem.

Check the pump’s power connections and the outlet, especially if the bed previously worked. Unplug the bed for 60 seconds, reconnect it, and allow 2 to 3 minutes for rebooting. Return to the app and check the connection status again.

Supported Smart Control System beds, including Climate and ComfortNext, also offer an app restart through Smart Bed > Settings > Restart Bed. Select it and wait until restarting finishes. If that option is missing, use the physical restart above; Firmness Control System beds do not support app-based restarting.

Restore Bluetooth pairing near the bed

Stay within 8 feet of the bed while restoring Bluetooth. On an iPhone or iPad, open Settings > Bluetooth and enable Bluetooth, then open Settings > Apps > Sleep Number and enable Bluetooth there too.

On Android, enable Bluetooth under Settings > Connections or Connected Devices, depending on your device. Open Settings > Apps > Sleep Number > Permissions and allow Nearby devices. Also enable location access for Sleep Number.

In the Sleep Number app, open Smart Bed > Settings > Connectivity > Bluetooth Devices, then select Pair My Smart Device. Tap Start Pairing, then select Allow. Remain nearby until pairing finishes before trying Wi-Fi setup again.

Reconnect with your current WiFi details

If you changed your router, network name, or password, update the bed’s saved connection. This replaces the previously saved Wi-Fi connection without resetting the bed. These steps apply to 360, Smart Beds, Climate, and ComfortNext collections.

Open Smart Bed and choose the correct bed at the upper left. Select Settings > Connectivity > Change Wi-Fi, choose your network, and enter its password. Stay near the bed until the connection process finishes.

Check capitalization and unintended spaces when entering the password. Sleep Number requires a Wi-Fi password of 8 to 63 characters and advises avoiding quotation marks. If the bed still fails to connect, restart your router, let its internet connection return, and retry Change Wi-Fi.

Check the router signal and compatible settings

Move the router within 40 feet of the bed when the network is missing or connection attempts fail. Try a 2.4 GHz network, which all Sleep Number smart beds support. Climate, ComfortNext, and select other smart beds also support 5 GHz.

Check that the router’s wireless mode is B, G, B/G, or B/G/N rather than AC-only or N-only. Use WPA or WPA-2 security supported by the bed; WPA-3 requires compatible newer hardware, and 360 beds cannot connect to a WPA-3-only network.

If your router uses MAC filtering, allow the pump’s MAC address or disable that filtering. For a network that requires signing in through a browser, ask your internet provider to admit a browserless device. If your network is hidden, use the app’s hidden-network setup option.

Renaming your Wi-Fi network replaces its existing network name. If that name contains apostrophes or problematic special characters, remove them and reconnect the bed through Change Wi-Fi. For a bed connected through a mobile hotspot, Sleep Number recommends always-on home internet.

Update the app and your mobile device

For 360, Smart Beds, Climate, and ComfortNext collections, check that your phone or tablet can access the internet, then completely close and reopen Sleep Number. Install available operating system updates on the device. In the App Store or Google Play Store, search for Sleep Number and select Update when offered.

If the app still fails to connect, install it on another compatible phone or tablet and sign in with the account associated with the bed. Check the email and password for typing errors or unintended spaces. When updates and connectivity checks do not help, wait a few minutes and retry.

Finish setup using the correct pairing method

If a newly assembled bed has never connected, complete its initial setup. Identify its control system first because model names overlap generations. The hardware-button method below applies to Smart Control versions of c2, c4, p5, p6, m7, i8, i10, iLE, ComfortNext, ClimateCool, and Climate360.

With assembly complete and nobody on the bed, open Smart Bed > Finish Setup and select Continue. With a FlexFit base, hold the side Favorite button until the light flashes blue. Without FlexFit, hold the pump’s pairing button until the light flashes yellow.

Select Start Pairing, then select Allow. Choose your Wi-Fi network and enter its password.

For 360-generation beds, including c1, pSE, iLE, and hSE, stay within 8 feet during setup. With assembly complete and nobody on the bed, select Continue, then compare the discovered bed’s MAC address with the label on its pump. When they match, select Yes, they match and choose Wi-Fi after inflation.

Run the built in system test

On a supported Smart Control System bed, keep people and pets away from the bed, then open Smart Bed > Settings > Quick System Test. Follow the prompts and resulting recommendations. Allow up to eight minutes for the test.

An offline bed needs Bluetooth for this test, so restore pairing first. The test and app-based restart are not available through the Smart Remote. If your bed does not offer the test in the app, follow the error-specific check below when applicable or contact Sleep Number for persistent connection trouble.

Follow the specific procedure for error e024

If the app displays e024, inspect the pump’s third LED. When that light is lit or blinking, close and reopen the app. Use the following power sequence only when the third LED is off.

Close the app, unplug the pump for 20 seconds, reconnect it, and wait 60 seconds before reopening the app. Repeat up to two more times if necessary. Contact Sleep Number if the error remains; these timings apply specifically to e024 and differ from the general restart procedure.

Use Bluetooth controls while getting help

You can adjust supported beds through Bluetooth while Wi-Fi remains disconnected. Enable Bluetooth, stay within 8 feet, and select Adjust Your Smart Bed on the app’s login screen. Complete pairing, then use the available controls.

If that logged-out Bluetooth connection fails, turn Bluetooth off, wait several seconds, and turn it back on. Disconnect another device that is already connected to the bed before retrying, since only one Bluetooth device can connect at once. These controls let you adjust the bed while offline but do not restore its Wi-Fi connection.

For persistent logged-out Bluetooth failure on 360, Smart Beds, Climate, or ComfortNext collections, Sleep Number also recommends reinstalling the app. Uninstalling removes the Sleep Number app from your device. Uninstall it, install the latest version, and repeat pairing.

If the bed still will not connect after the relevant fixes, contact Sleep Number support for help with the account or hardware. Select Chat at the lower right of Sleep Number’s support site.
