Your HyperX Cloud 3 mic is plugged in, but your voice is not getting through. The cause is usually close by: the boom mic is loose, the headset is muted, Windows or macOS picked the wrong input, or the chat app blocked mic access.
Start with the headset itself, then move through the exact device and app settings that control the microphone.
1. Reseat the boom mic and clear mute first
Start here: the detachable boom mic has to sit fully inside the headset microphone port, and the headset mute button overrides everything else.
- 1.Pull the detachable microphone out of the headset.
- 2.Push it firmly back into the microphone port.
- 3.Press the headset Mic mute button once.
- 4.On Cloud III wired, check the LED. LED On means the mic is muted. LED Off means the mic is active.
- 5.On Cloud III Wireless and Cloud III S Wireless, use the boom mic LED mute indicator to confirm mute status.
For Cloud III Wireless and Cloud III S Wireless, power on the headset and use the correct wireless dongle or mode before changing software settings.
2. Reconnect wireless models correctly
Cloud III Wireless uses its USB wireless dongle.
Cloud III S Wireless uses 2.4 GHz USB adapter mode, Bluetooth, or Instant Pair on select OMEN gaming laptops, depending on the device.
Cloud III Wireless:
Connect the USB wireless dongle to the device.
Press the headset Power button.
Open the device audio settings.
Select HyperX Cloud III Wireless as the input or recording device.
Cloud III S Wireless in 2.4 GHz mode: Slide the mode switch to adapter or 2.4 GHz mode, connect the USB wireless dongle, power on the headset, then select HyperX Cloud III S Wireless as the input device.
Cloud III S Wireless over Bluetooth: Slide the mode switch to Bluetooth, hold Power and Multifunction for 2 seconds, wait for the LED to blink blue and the Bluetooth pairing voice prompt, then open your device's Bluetooth settings and connect to HyperX Cloud III S Wireless.
On Nintendo Switch 2, Bluetooth microphone input is not supported. Use a wired, USB-C, USB dock, or controller audio jack connection for GameChat.
3. Set HyperX as the Windows input
Windows keeps separate input choices for the system, desktop apps, and older recording settings, so set the headset in all three places.
Open Start > Settings > System > Sound.
Under Input, open Choose a device for speaking or recording.
Select HyperX Cloud III, HyperX Cloud III Wireless, or HyperX Cloud III S Wireless.
Select the HyperX microphone and open Properties.
Under Input settings, click Start test.
Speak normally, click Stop test, then click Play.
Raise the Input volume slider when the recording is too quiet.
If the HyperX input is disabled, go to Start > Settings > System > Sound > Advanced > More sound settings > Recording. Select the HyperX input, open Properties, and set Device usage to Use this device.
4. Allow the mic in Windows privacy settings
On Windows 11: Go to Start > Settings > Privacy & security > Microphone. Turn on Microphone access, turn on Let apps access your microphone, then turn on access for the app you want to use.
For Discord, Zoom, Teams, Steam, Xbox Game Bar, and other desktop programs, also turn on Let desktop apps access your microphone.
On Windows 10: Go to Start > Settings > Privacy > Microphone, then allow microphone access for Windows and the target app.
A perfectly connected headset still stays silent when Windows blocks microphone access. On a managed work or school PC, locked microphone settings point to organization policy. Ask the IT admin to allow microphone access instead of changing unrelated audio options.
5. Pick the HyperX mic on Mac
On macOS, choose the headset as the system input first, then give the app permission to use it.
Open Apple menu > System Settings > Sound > Input, then select the HyperX headset or connected audio device.
Next, open Apple menu > System Settings > Privacy & Security > Microphone. Turn on microphone access for the app that needs the HyperX mic.
If macOS does not keep the right input selected, open Audio MIDI Setup, select the HyperX or input device in the sidebar, then choose Use This Device for Sound Input.
6. Choose HyperX inside Discord Zoom Teams and Steam
Chrome: Open More > Settings > Privacy and security > Site settings > Microphone, then allow microphone access for the site. You can also open View site information > Site settings and set Microphone to Allow or Allow while visiting the site.
Discord: Open User Settings > Voice & Video > Voice > Input Device, select the HyperX microphone, adjust Input Volume, then run Mic Test > Let's Check. Set Input Mode away from Push to Talk unless you want push-to-talk.
Zoom: Open the desktop app, click your profile picture, then go to Settings > Audio > Microphone. Select the HyperX mic and click Test Mic. During a meeting, click the upward arrow beside Mute > Select a Microphone, then choose the HyperX mic.
Teams: Go to Settings and more > Settings > Devices > Audio settings > Microphone, then select the connected HyperX microphone. Use Make a test call when it appears.
Steam: Open Friends & Chat, click the gear icon, open Voice > Voice Input Device, select the HyperX microphone, then click Start Microphone Test.
Your operating system input is only half the job. Chat apps keep their own microphone menus, and those menus need to point at the HyperX mic too.
In Discord, check your user tile for the mute icon. If the mic works in other places but not in one server or channel, ask a moderator to check voice permissions for your role or channel.
For Discord voice trouble that remains after the input is set, open User Settings > Voice & Video > Debugging > Reset Voice and Video Settings. On Windows, open Voice & Video > Voice > Audio Subsystem and switch between Standard and Legacy. Discord documents that toggle as a current troubleshooting option.
In Zoom on Windows, open Settings > Audio > Advanced, then disable Signal processing by Windows audio device drivers.
7. Fix console voice settings
Consoles add another mute layer: check the console input menu, the chat level, and the controller or system mute control.
PS5: Press the PS button, open Mic from the control centre, choose Input Device, then select the headset or input device. Open Adjust Microphone Level and speak until the level lands in the Good range. You can also use Settings > Sound > Microphone. Press the DualSense MUTE button to mute or unmute the mic.
PS4: Go to Settings > Devices > Audio Devices > Input Device, choose the headset or input device, then use Adjust Microphone Level.
Xbox: Use Cloud III wired through the controller or headset jack. Check party troubleshooting and privacy settings so communication is allowed, then go to Profile & system > Settings > General > Volume & audio output > Advanced > Additional options and review Chat mixer. HyperX does not list Xbox in the current Cloud III Wireless compatibility block.
Nintendo Switch: For games that use voice chat in the Nintendo Switch App, you need an active Nintendo Switch Online membership and must be age 13 or older. Open the Nintendo Switch App on your smart device, launch a supported online game, then select Start in the Smart Device Voice Chat section. Give microphone permission to the smart device and connect the HyperX mic to that device.
Nintendo Switch 2 GameChat: For USB-C on the console, USB on the dock, the console audio jack, or the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller audio jack, unplug the headset or microphone and plug it back in. For USB connections, try a different port. Then open System Settings > Audio > Audio Input, confirm the correct Input Microphone, temporarily turn off Microphone Noise Suppression, raise the microphone input volume if needed, then select Test Microphone.
8. Update NGENUITY and repair Windows drivers
Open the official HyperX NGENUITY download page.
Click DOWNLOAD NGENUITY.
Open NGENUITY.
Confirm your Cloud III model appears as a supported device.
Check for available firmware updates.
Move the headset or dongle to a different USB port if the headset does not appear.
Reinstall NGENUITY if detection still fails.
Use the current HyperX NGENUITY app on Windows for Cloud III software and firmware support. HyperX lists Cloud III, Cloud III Wireless, and Cloud III S Wireless as supported in NGENUITY 2025.
Use DOWNLOAD NGENUITY Legacy only when the current app does not support the specific HyperX device or feature you need.
For Windows driver repair, open Start, type Device Manager, open Device Manager, and expand Sound, video and game controllers. Right-click the audio or HyperX device, choose Update driver, then select Search automatically for drivers.
If the driver update does not restore the microphone, right-click the same device, choose Uninstall device, confirm, and restart your PC.
