How to Find Your Xfinity Gateway’s Default Admin Credentials

Your default Xfinity router password comes from the gateway sticker or first-time app setup; use admin as the Admin Tool username.

To find your Xfinity gateway’s default admin credentials, use the username admin with the applicable password on its bottom sticker, or create a password in the Xfinity app during first-time Admin Tool activation on an XB6, XB7, XB8, or XB10. These credentials open the gateway’s Admin Tool at http://10.0.0.1. Your WiFi password connects devices to your network, while your Xfinity account login signs you in to your account.

The short version

  • Username: Enter admin when signing in to the gateway’s Admin Tool.
  • First activation: On an XB6, XB7, XB8, or XB10, enable Admin Tool access in the Xfinity app and create your password.
  • Sticker credentials: On gateways using sticker-based admin credentials, use the bottom-label password unless you changed it.
  • Failed login: Contact Xfinity for help with your gateway model when the sticker is missing or the applicable credentials fail.

Create your password in the Xfinity app

For first-time Admin Tool activation on an XB6, XB7, XB8, or XB10, start in the Xfinity app. This setup prompts you to create a password and has no universal default password. If you need the app, open the official Xfinity app page, select Download the App, and install it through the linked mobile store.

Sign in to the app, then select WiFi > View WiFi equipment > Advanced settings > Admin Tool online access. Turn on Allow Admin Tool access and select Save. During first-time activation, enter the password you want to create and select Save again.

While connected to your home WiFi, open http://10.0.0.1 in a browser. Enter admin as the username and the password you created, then select LOGIN. If the app setup does not provide working access, contact Xfinity using the support option below.

Check the bottom sticker for existing credentials

For a gateway using sticker-based admin credentials, inspect the sticker on the bottom for its default password. Xfinity says that customers who enabled Admin Tool access before February 2026 may still use the sticker password. If you previously changed the admin password, use your replacement password instead.

Connect to your home network and open http://10.0.0.1. Enter admin as the username, enter the applicable sticker password or your replacement password, and select LOGIN. If the sticker password fails, check whether you created a password during app activation or changed it afterward.

Sign in on an older gateway

Wireless Gateway 1, Wireless Gateway 2, and XB3 do not support the app’s Admin Tool access toggle. On these models, connect your computer, phone, or tablet to the gateway’s home network, then open http://10.0.0.1 directly.

Enter admin and the gateway’s applicable default or previously configured admin password, then select LOGIN. For default credentials, check the gateway sticker. If the label is missing or the login fails, ask Xfinity for help with your specific model.

Get help when your credentials do not work

If the sticker is missing or your applicable admin password fails, contact Xfinity support. Explain that you need access to the gateway’s Admin Tool and describe the missing sticker or rejected credentials. Include your gateway model so the next steps match your hardware.

Be clear that you need help with the Admin Tool password rather than the WiFi password or Xfinity account login. Sign in only through Xfinity’s own app or website, and never share a code, password, or remote access with someone who contacts you.

Reset a rented XB2 or XB3 as a last resort

A factory reset erases custom settings and interrupts service. For a rented XB2 or XB3 with a forgotten admin password, locate the recessed Reset button on the back. Xfinity’s support pages give different press-and-hold sequences for this button, so confirm the reset steps for your gateway with Xfinity before you use a paperclip to press it. After the reset, wait for the lights to finish flashing and become steady.

Reconnect using the default WiFi credentials on the bottom label, then open http://10.0.0.1. Follow the gateway’s default Admin Tool login process: enter admin and the applicable sticker password, then select LOGIN. If you still cannot sign in, contact Xfinity for help with that gateway.

Reset an XB8 if needed

A factory reset erases your XB8’s custom settings. With the gateway powered on, hold its rear WPS/reset button for 30 seconds. Allow it to reboot, then reconnect using the default WiFi credentials on its label.

Follow the app activation steps above to enable Admin Tool access and create a password when prompted. While connected to your home WiFi, open http://10.0.0.1 and sign in with admin and the applicable admin password. A reset does not guarantee that you will recover admin access, so contact Xfinity if login still fails.

Restore app access when bridge mode interferes

If bridge mode prevents access to the app’s Admin Tool controls, Xfinity staff describe a factory-reset workaround for specific WPS-reset gateways, including XB7 cases. For an XB6 or XB10, ask Xfinity for instructions specific to your hardware before choosing a reset procedure.

For this workaround, a factory reset erases custom settings and removes bridge mode. Hold the gateway’s WPS button for approximately 30 seconds, then release it. Wait for the gateway to reconnect before opening the Xfinity app.

Select WiFi > View WiFi equipment > Advanced settings > Admin Tool online access. Turn on Allow Admin Tool access, select Save, and follow the password-creation prompt if offered. If you still cannot reach the controls or sign in, contact Xfinity for help with your gateway.

Frequently Asked Questions

What phone software does the Xfinity app require?

Xfinity lists iOS 17.2 or later and Android 10.0 or later. App feature availability also depends on your service, account role, gateway, and bridge mode.

Can I use Ethernet to sign in on an older gateway?

Yes, Wireless Gateway 1, Wireless Gateway 2, and XB3 allow you to connect to the home network using Ethernet before opening the Admin Tool. WiFi is also an option for connecting your computer, phone, or tablet.

Will a factory reset show me the forgotten admin password?

No, an XB2 or XB3 factory reset restores defaults rather than revealing the forgotten password. An XB8 reset also does not display the previous admin password.

Can X1 voice features tell me the Admin Tool password?

The password exposed through X1 voice features is for joining your WiFi network. Treat it as a WiFi credential, not as confirmation of your gateway’s Admin Tool password.

Why do older instructions list admin and password as the defaults?

That pair comes from historical Xfinity gateway instructions. It is not a current universal default for Xfinity gateways, so older instructions alone do not establish the credentials for your model.
