You open Edge’s menu to save your favorites, but the export command isn’t there on its own. It sits inside the Favorites menu, where you can save your links as an HTML file for backup or transfer to another browser. For favorites saved on your phone, sync them to desktop Edge first.

Export your favorites to an HTML file

The export command is easy to miss because Favorites has its own three-dot menu. Open the Edge profile containing the favorites you want to save. Select Settings and more (three-dot menu) > Favorites.

Above the favorites list, select More options (three-dot menu) > Export favorites. Choose a filename and destination, such as a local folder, USB drive, or SD card. Select Save to create the HTML file. Repeat the export from each relevant Edge profile.

Find the export command through another entry point

The full Favorites page gives you another place to reach the same exporter. Enter edge://favorites in Edge’s address bar.

Open the … menu inside the Favorites page and select Export favorites. Use the page’s menu, rather than the browser’s main three-dot menu. Choose a filename and location, then select Save.

There are also two shortcuts into the Favorites panel. Select the Favorites toolbar button when it is visible, or press Ctrl+Shift+O on Windows. The keyboard shortcut opens Favorites; it does not export a file automatically.

In the panel, select More options (three-dot menu) > Export favorites. Choose your filename and destination, then select Save.

If these routes fail to produce a file, try syncing your favorites to another computer using the sync instructions below, then export from desktop Edge there.

Bring the saved file into Chrome

Once you have your Edge HTML file, import it into Chrome.

  1. 1.On your computer, open Chrome and select More.
  2. 2.Select Bookmarks and lists, then Import bookmarks and settings.
  3. 3.Select Choose file and locate your exported HTML file.
  4. 4.Select Open, then Done.

On a Chromebook, select More > Bookmarks and lists > Bookmark manager, then Organize > Import Bookmarks from HTML file, and upload the saved HTML file.

Save favorites from Android, iPhone, or iPad

For favorites stored in mobile Edge, use sync to bring them to desktop Edge before exporting. Both devices need the same account, with permission to sync.

In mobile Edge, open your profile image > Accounts. Choose your account, then select Sign in to sync. Open More options > Settings.

Select your profile image. Select Sync under Sync settings. Enable Favorites. Select Done where shown.

If you need Edge on your computer, install it from Microsoft’s Edge download page. Sign in to desktop Edge with the same account used on your phone. Open Settings and more > Settings > Profiles > Sync. Enable Favorites.

Wait for your mobile favorites to appear on the computer. Open Settings and more > Favorites. Select More options (three-dot menu) > Export favorites, then choose a filename and destination. Select Save.

Move favorites between computers with Edge sync

Sign in to Edge using the same account on both computers. On the first computer, open Settings and more > Settings > Profiles > Sync. Enable Favorites. On the destination computer, open Settings and more > Settings > Profiles > Sync.

Enable Favorites. Wait for your favorites to appear on the destination computer. For a separate backup file, use Export favorites there, because sync does not create an HTML export.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I transfer Edge favorites directly to Firefox without an HTML file?

Yes, when the Edge profile is available on the same computer. In Firefox’s menu, select Bookmarks > Manage bookmarks. In the Library, select Import and Backup > Import Data from Another Browser…. Choose Microsoft Edge and the desired profile. Click +, choose Bookmarks, then select Import > Done.

Do I need to reinstall or update Edge just to export favorites?

No. Installing or updating Edge is not required solely to export favorites from an existing working installation.

Why do older instructions tell me to use Export to file in Settings?

Those instructions describe Microsoft Edge Legacy, whose support ended March 9, 2021. They do not describe the current Edge export menus.

Will my organization’s managed favorites sync to another computer?

No. Microsoft states that managed favorites are not account-synced, so account sync does not transfer those organizational links.
