Chrome blocked the pop-up, and now the window you need won’t open. You can let that website through or allow pop-ups by default. Start with the desktop steps below, or jump to Android or iPhone and iPad.

Allow pop-ups for a website on your computer

This lets one website open pop-ups in Chrome on Windows, Mac, Linux, or Chromebook. Visit the page where Chrome blocked the pop-up, then click Pop-up blocked in the address bar.

Select Always allow pop-ups and redirects from [site], with your website’s address shown in place of [site]. Click Done, then retry the action that opened the pop-up.

Only need one blocked window? Click its link inside the Pop-up blocked panel instead of selecting Always allow pop-ups and redirects from [site].

Change the default for all desktop sites

Use this setting to allow pop-ups by default across websites. An explicit block for an individual site still needs changing separately.

Open Chrome’s More menu, then choose Settings. Go to Privacy and security and open Site settings. Select Pop-ups and redirects, then choose Sites can send pop-ups and use redirects. For a shortcut to the same settings page, enter chrome://settings/content/popups in Chrome’s address bar.

On Android, start with the blocked page

Open the affected website in Chrome on your Android phone or tablet. After Chrome blocks a pop-up, tap Always show at the bottom.

To change the default permission instead, open More, then tap Settings. Open Site settings and select Pop-ups and redirects. Set the Pop-ups and redirects permission to allow pop-ups. Tip: Read the setting’s displayed allow or block state to confirm your selection.

Turn off the blocker on iPhone or iPad

This allows pop-ups in Chrome on your iPhone or iPad. In Chrome, tap More, then open Settings. Select Content Settings, tap Block Pop-ups, then turn Block Pop-ups off.

To allow a particular site instead, open the affected page in Chrome. Under Pop-ups blocked at the bottom, tap Always show.

No blocked-pop-up indicator on your computer

You don’t need the blocked-pop-up panel to allow a desktop website. Its site permissions give you another way in.

Visit the website you want to allow, then click View site information, the tune or sliders icon to the left of the website’s address. Choose Site settings. Set Pop-ups and redirects to Allow. Chrome saves the change automatically.

Return to the website and reload the page if Chrome prompts you to. If the pop-up still won’t open, try turning off any installed extension that blocks pop-ups using the steps below.

Clear an existing site block

This removes a website’s explicit block, which remains in effect even after you allow pop-ups by default. Enter chrome://settings/content/popups in Chrome’s address bar. Find the website under Not allowed to send pop-ups or use redirects.

Open the site’s three-dot action menu, then select Allow.

Check for an extension that blocks pop-ups

If you have a blocking extension installed on desktop, turn it off to check whether it’s stopping the window.

  1. 1.Open More > Extensions > Manage extensions.
  2. 2.Turn off the relevant blocking extension.
  3. 3.Confirm that Chrome’s own Pop-ups and redirects permission is set to Allow for the website.
  4. 4.Reload the website.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I add a website to the allowed list before it opens a pop-up?

Yes. On desktop, open More > Settings > Privacy and security > Site settings > Pop-ups and redirects. Beside Allowed to send pop-ups and use redirects, select Add. Enter the website address, then select Add.

Is there a Mac keyboard shortcut for the pop-up setting?

Press Command+, to open Chrome’s settings on a Mac. Continue through Privacy and security > Site settings > Pop-ups and redirects. The shortcut opens settings; it does not toggle pop-up blocking.

What if my work or school controls the pop-up setting?

Ask your administrator to allow pop-ups for the website you need. Administrators can use the Allow pop-ups on these sites policy, PopupsAllowedForUrls, to permit specified websites in managed Chrome.
