Edit your information in Health

Open Health, select Summary, then tap your profile picture. Choose Medical ID, then tap Edit or Add beside the information you want to change. Enter your updated details, then tap Done.

If your Medical ID screen has a single Edit button, tap it to change your information. Tap Done when you finish.

Open the editor from another place

On iOS 27, you can view your Medical ID from the Home Screen by touching and holding the Health app icon, then choosing Medical ID.

On iOS 26 and iOS 27, you can also open Contacts, tap My Card, then tap Edit. Scroll down and tap Edit Medical ID, change your information, then tap Done. If you have not created a Medical ID, tap Create Medical ID instead.

Update your emergency contacts

Open Health > Summary, tap your profile picture, then choose Medical ID. Tap Edit beside Emergency Contacts. To add someone, tap the plus button beside Add Emergency Contact, choose a contact, specify the relationship, then tap Done.

Removing someone takes that person out of your Medical ID’s emergency contacts. To remove someone, tap the delete button beside the contact, then tap Delete. Tap Done when you finish.

You can also open Settings > Emergency SOS. Under Health, tap Edit Emergency Contacts, or tap Set Up Emergency Contacts when setup is needed. In Medical ID, tap Edit beside Emergency Contacts, add or remove someone using the controls above, then tap Done.

Choose Lock Screen access

On iOS 27, open Health, tap your profile picture, select Medical ID, then tap Edit. Scroll down to Show When Locked. Turn it on to allow Lock Screen access to your Medical ID, or turn it off to prevent that access. Tap Done to save your changes.

Choose emergency call sharing

On the iOS 27 Medical ID editing screen, scroll down and turn Emergency Call on or off to control automatic emergency sharing where the service is available. If your screen uses the label Share During Emergency Call, use that control instead. This setting controls emergency sharing separately from Show When Locked. Tap Done when you finish.

Review the system sharing setting

Emergency sharing also requires a system setting under Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services > System Services. Turn on Emergency Calls & SOS to permit the sharing function, or turn it off to prevent Medical ID information from being shared through it. Emergency data availability varies by country or region.

Update Medical ID for your paired Apple Watch

For an Apple Watch paired to your own iPhone, open Health on that iPhone, tap your profile picture, then choose Medical ID. Tap Edit or Add beside a field, or use the screen’s Edit button, update your information, then tap Done. Apple says the Medical ID information you configure on your iPhone is also available on your paired Apple Watch.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where is automatic Medical ID emergency sharing available?

Apple’s iPhone User Guide lists the United States and Canada for automatic Medical ID sharing during emergency calls. Sharing still depends on service availability.

Does changing Emergency Calls & SOS change your saved Medical ID?

No, changing Emergency Calls & SOS affects sharing behavior, not the information saved in your Medical ID. To change the saved details, open Health and edit Medical ID.

Why do older instructions use the Apple Watch app to edit Medical ID?

Apple’s watchOS 8 instructions described editing through the Apple Watch companion app. For your current paired watch, Apple directs you to edit Medical ID in Health on the paired iPhone.

How do you set up Medical ID for a family member’s Apple Watch?

For a family-managed Apple Watch, where available, open the Apple Watch app on the managing iPhone, tap My Watch, select the watch under Family Watches, then tap Done. Tap Health, choose Request [family member’s name] Health Data, then tap Request Health Data. After the family member permits sharing on their watch, tap Set Up Medical ID to add emergency contacts and other information. This sets up the family member’s watch information rather than changing your own Medical ID.
