An unwanted Chrome profile leaves extra accounts and browsing data on your computer. You can remove it through Profile > Manage Chrome profiles on Windows, macOS, or Linux. Here's how to delete the right profile and keep the information you still need.
Save what you need before deleting
If the unwanted profile holds information you still need, save it before continuing. Deletion erases that profile's local bookmarks, history, passwords, and settings, whether it's signed in to a Google Account or used without signing in.
Open the profile you plan to remove.
Save any needed local-only information somewhere outside that profile.
The same preparation applies to a profile used without a Google Account. Its local bookmarks and passwords are also removed when you delete it.
Deleting a Chrome profile and deleting your Google Account are separate operations. Chrome information stored in your Google Account also has its own cleanup option, covered below.
Delete the Chrome profile from your computer
The same six steps work on Windows, Mac, and Linux.
- 1.Open Chrome and click the top-right Profile icon.
- 2.Under Other Chrome profiles, click Manage Chrome profiles.
- 3.Find the profile you want to remove.
- 4.Open that profile's More menu.
- 5.Select Delete.
- 6.Select Delete again to confirm. This erases the profile's local bookmarks, history, passwords, and settings.
Use the profile picker when Chrome starts
Already looking at Chrome's startup profile picker? You can delete the unwanted profile right there. It opens the same deletion controls as the profile menu.
Open the unwanted profile's More menu.
Select Delete.
Select Delete again to confirm.
If you cannot reach the deletion controls through the startup picker, use the top-right Profile > Manage Chrome profiles route instead.
To have the picker appear when Chrome starts, open Manage Chrome profiles and select Show on startup. This gives you another entry point to the same profile deletion controls.
Find the current profile controls
Older tutorials point to menu names that don't match Google's current desktop instructions.
Click the top-right Profile icon.
Select Manage Chrome profiles under Other Chrome profiles.
Use this route when older instructions mention Manage People, Remove this person, or Settings > Users.
Skip Reset settings for this task. It keeps bookmarks and passwords, so resetting Chrome does not delete the profile.
Delete Chrome and its local information on iPhone or iPad
On an iPhone or iPad, deleting the Chrome app removes its local profile information, including bookmarks and history. This removes the app and its local information rather than selecting one desktop-style profile to delete.
Touch and hold Chrome.
Tap Remove app.
Tap Delete app.
Removing an account through Chrome is a separate action. Account removal does not guarantee that every local browsing record is deleted, so distinguish that option from deleting the app and its local profile information.
Remove saved Chrome information from your Google Account
For a separate cleanup of Chrome information stored in your Google Account, open Chrome's account data page.
Select Delete data to delete the Chrome information saved there.
Tip: Deleting account data does not replace removing the local profile from your computer.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I make Chrome show the profile picker at startup?
Open Profile > Manage Chrome profiles, then check Show on startup.
Does uninstalling Chrome also delete profile data?
Google's Windows 10 instructions include an Also delete your browsing data checkbox in Chrome's uninstaller. On macOS, removing profile information requires a separate cleanup of the folders at ~/Library/Application Support/Google/Chrome. Uninstalling alone is not a guaranteed profile cleanup on Windows 11 or Linux.
Can I use these steps on Android?
No. Android has one Chrome profile per Android device user. Removing a device user also removes that user's apps and accounts, so it affects much more than Chrome.
How do I remove an account from Chrome on an iPhone or iPad?
Open Chrome and tap your account at the top right. If it is absent, open New tab first. Tap the top-left More menu. Select Manage accounts on this device. Beneath the account, tap Remove from this device, then Remove. Account removal does not guarantee deletion of every local browsing record.
