Your browser is full of tabs you no longer need, and closing them one at a time is a chore. Safari and several other iPhone browsers have controls to close them in bulk. Start with your browser below, then check its separate groups and private tabs to finish the job.
Close all Safari tabs in the current group
Open Safari on your iPhone. Tap the Tabs button to display your open tabs. Then touch and hold Done.
Tap Close All [number of] Tabs. The number shows how many tabs you’re closing in the selected Tab Group. Check your other Tab Groups afterward, because this command closes only the selected group’s tabs.
Find the controls on Safari’s older toolbar
Using iOS 26? The route depends on your toolbar layout. With the Compact layout, tap More (…). Choose All Tabs.
With the Bottom or Top layout, tap the Tabs button instead. Once you’re in the tab view, touch and hold Done. Select Close All [number of] Tabs. If the bulk-close command isn’t available, try closing tabs individually using each tab’s Close button.
Track down Safari tabs that are still open
Safari leaves tabs in other groups open because its close-all command covers only the selected Tab Group. In the iOS 27 tab view, use the Tab Group controls at the bottom center to switch to another group. Touch and hold Done. Tap Close All [number of] Tabs.
Repeat this sequence for each remaining group. Check Private browsing for additional tabs. Check any other Safari profiles before calling the cleanup finished.
Clear Chrome tabs and groups
Open Chrome. Tap Switch tabs. Tap Close All at the bottom left to close regular tabs.
To close tabs and groups together, open More at the top right of the tab switcher. Select Close All Tabs and Groups.
For Incognito tabs, select the Incognito icon at the top of the tab switcher. Tap Edit on the left. Choose Close All Tabs to end that Incognito session.
For inactive tabs, open Inactive tabs from the tab switcher. This section appears only when inactive tabs exist. Tap Close all inactive. Confirm with Close all.
For remaining pinned tabs, touch and hold a pinned tab at the bottom of the tab switcher. Tap Close Tab. Repeat for each remaining pinned tab. Give regular tabs, groups, Incognito, inactive tabs, and pinned tabs a final check before leaving Chrome.
Use Firefox’s tab controls
For Firefox layouts with a trash control, open the tab view using the tab icon. Tap the trash icon at the bottom. Select Close all tabs.
Private tabs have their own cleanup setting. Open Firefox’s Settings. Under Privacy, enable Close Private Tabs if it’s off. This setting is enabled by default.
Tap Tabs in the tab view to return to regular browsing. With the setting enabled, Firefox closes private tabs when you leave the app. Regular tabs stay outside this setting’s scope.
The keyboard fallback requires a connected Bluetooth keyboard or a keyboard connected through an adapter. If the trash-control method doesn’t match your Firefox interface, try pressing Command + W on that keyboard repeatedly, closing the current tab each time until the tabs you want removed are gone.
Finish the cleanup in other iPhone browsers
In Brave 1.83 or later, tap the number icon in the bottom toolbar. Long-press an open tab. Choose Select Tabs. Select every tab you want to close.
Tap Close. The separate Shred action closes tabs for affected sites and also erases their locally stored site data. Repeat the selection and closing sequence in another browsing mode if you have tabs there.
In DuckDuckGo, tap the Fire Button. This deletes browsing data as well as tabs, while Fireproof Sites retain specified cookies and storage. Choose the option to delete all open tabs. Check Fire Tabs separately, because they’re isolated from regular tabs.
In Vivaldi, open the Tab Switcher. Tap Edit at the bottom left. Select Close All Tabs.
For private browsing, slide to Private Tabs in the tab switcher. Tap Edit. Choose Close All Tabs again.
In Opera, open the Tabs page. Tap the three-dot icon. Select Close all tabs.
In Edge, tap the numbered square icon to see your tabs. Tap X on each tab until none remain. Repeat in the other browsing mode if you have tabs there.
In Firefox Focus, tap the delete/trash icon in the toolbar to erase the current browsing session. Use each browser’s own controls when you have tabs open in more than one app.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I close my iPhone’s Safari tabs from a Mac?
Yes. Both devices must use the same Apple Account with Safari enabled in iCloud. In Safari on the Mac, choose Bookmarks > Show Start Page. Find your iPhone’s iCloud tabs. Control-click a tab. Choose Close Tab. Repeat for each listed tab; remote closing works one tab at a time.
Can Brave automatically close old tabs?
Yes. Open Menu > All Settings. In the Tabs section, select Close Tabs. Choose an automatic-closing interval. Manually is the default. This setting cleans up inactive tabs over time.
Why does Vivaldi show a new page after I close the last tab?
Vivaldi has a setting that replaces the last closed tab with an empty Start Page. Open Settings > Tabs > Tab Behavior. Turn off Open New Tab on Closing Last Tab to stop that behavior.
Does closing a Vivaldi Tab Stack close its tabs too?
Yes. Open the Tab Switcher. Tap the Close button on the stack thumbnail. This closes the stack’s tabs and deletes the stack.
