Need to change your Snapchat password, or can't remember it at all? You can change a known password in the app or a browser, and reset a forgotten one using your linked email address or phone number. Start with the option that matches your situation.
Change your password in the Snapchat app
Already signed in and know your password? On iPhone or Android, open your profile, My Account.
Tap the gear icon to open Settings.
Tap Password.
Complete the onscreen password-change prompts.
Snapchat documents this in-app route without specifying a subscription requirement or any platform-specific differences. Its instructions do not name the remaining fields or the final submission button, so follow the prompts displayed in your app to finish changing the password.
Prefer to use a browser?
Snapchat's Accounts Portal lets you change a known password when you can complete verification. It also has a recovery route for forgotten passwords.
The browser password-change route requires both your current password and the ability to complete Snapchat's verification. Knowing your username or email address is only part of that process.
To change a password you know, open the Snapchat Accounts Portal.
Authenticate with your username or email address.
Enter Snapchat's verification code when prompted.
Complete the password-change prompts.
If you've forgotten your password, open the Accounts Portal to begin recovery.
Supply the phone number or email address linked to your account.
Select Forgot Password.
Request a one-time code through email or SMS.
Follow the instructions delivered through your chosen channel to complete recovery.
Choose a recovery channel you can still access. The browser recovery process depends on receiving the code through an email address or mobile number associated with your account.
Recover a forgotten password by email
Email recovery resets a forgotten password through your linked email address.
This option is available from the Snapchat login screen on both iOS and Android. You need access to the associated email account to open the reset link.
On the Snapchat app's login screen, tap Forgot your password?.
Choose recovery by email.
Open the reset link sent to the email address associated with your account.
Set a new password by following the reset prompts.

Use your phone number when you've forgotten the password
A forgotten password doesn't have to keep you locked out when you still have access to your linked mobile number.

On the app's login screen, tap Forgot your password?.
Choose recovery by SMS.
Retrieve the code sent to the phone number associated with your account.

When password recovery is blocked
Lost access to both your linked email address and phone number? Snapchat says it cannot reset your forgotten password without access to an associated email or mobile number. Your username alone isn't enough.
If your account has two-factor authentication turned on, it still applies when you sign in during password recovery. Resetting your password does not bypass that requirement, even when you have access to your recovery channel.
Password changes are also unavailable while your account is deactivated.
