When your Roku TVs have names you don't recognize, telling them apart becomes a chore. Change the device name through your Roku account or the Roku mobile app. For a TV listed in Apple Home or Google Home, use those apps’ separate naming controls.

Change your Roku TV name in a browser

Visit my.roku.com. Sign in to the Roku account linked to your TV. Then find your TV under My devices.

Click the TV you want to rename to open Device details. Click Nickname and enter your new name. Click Save.

Tip: Choose a recognizable name such as “Living Room TV,” and use Device location to change its location separately.

Roku’s Canadian support page describes an older-style layout instead: My linked devices > Rename on the website, and Settings > Edit Name in the mobile app. Use those labels if that is what your account or app shows.

Use the Roku mobile app to rename the TV

A phone and TV on different Wi-Fi networks do not meet the Roku app’s connection requirement. Connect your phone to the same Wi-Fi network as your Roku TV. Open the official Roku app on your iPhone or Android phone.

Tap Devices. Select your TV. Tap Options, shown as three dots (•••) next to your TV.

Tap Set Name and Location. Sign in to your Roku account if prompted.

Enter the new TV name. This screen also lets you change the device location. Tap Save.

Give the TV a separate Google Home nickname

This changes the name in Google Home without changing the name in Roku’s app. Open Google Home with your Roku TV already linked. Tap Home.

Open All devices. Touch and hold your Roku TV’s tile. Open Settings.

Tap Name. Enter your preferred nickname. Tap Save.

Rename the TV accessory in Apple Home

Use this method for a HomeKit-compatible Roku TV already added to Apple Home. It edits the Home accessory label; use the Roku account or app controls to change the Roku device name.

On an iPhone or iPad, open Home. Tap the right side of the TV’s accessory tile.

Tap the Settings button. Clear the existing accessory name with the Delete button. Type the new name.

On a Mac, open the Home app. Select Home in the sidebar. Click the TV’s name in its tile.

Click the Options button at the bottom right. Replace the accessory name. Click the Close button at the top right.

Choose a name during initial activation

Setting up a new Roku TV? Initial activation includes an opportunity to choose its name and location.

Activate the TV with your Roku account during setup. Choose its name and location when prompted. This naming opportunity belongs to initial setup, rather than a separate rename control for a TV you already use.

Keep a factory reset out of the naming process. It erases settings and returns the TV to setup, and Roku does not offer it as a rename procedure. If the TV finishes setup without the name you want, change it through the Roku account website or mobile app.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I change the TV name through Settings on the Roku TV?

Settings > System > About identifies the TV and its serial number. It is not a device-name editor. Use your Roku account website or the Roku mobile app to rename the TV.

Does renaming an HDMI input change my Roku TV’s name?

No. Renaming an HDMI or AV input changes that input’s tile label, which is separate from the device name shown in your Roku account, the Roku mobile app, and AirPlay or screen mirroring.

Can I use the same naming methods for a Roku streaming player?

Yes. Roku’s account website and mobile app naming methods apply to account-linked streaming players as well as Roku TVs.

Where can I download the official Roku mobile app?

Visit https://www.roku.com/en-us/mobile-app and choose Download on the Apple App Store or Get it on Google Play. Check the App Store or Google Play listing for the current minimum iOS or Android version.
