Need to change the card, PayPal, or backup payment on Netflix? The fix depends on who bills the account, and the wrong billing page sends you in circles.

Start with the Netflix web payment page for directly billed accounts, then use the provider or support route only when your account is tied to a package. Here are the current paths that match Netflix’s account controls.

1. Start with the Netflix payment page

For a Netflix-billed account, use a browser. Netflix says payment methods cannot be managed inside the Netflix app, except for the Netflix app downloaded from the Samsung Galaxy Store.

  1. 1.Open a desktop or mobile browser and go to netflix.com/YourAccountPayment.
  2. 2.Sign in if Netflix shows Sign In.
  3. 3.Select Update next to the payment method you want to change.
  4. 4.Enter the new payment information on Netflix’s page.
  5. 5.Review the details and follow the confirmation shown on Netflix's payment page.

If your account is included through a carrier, cable company, or another provider package, use the package section below instead of trying to force the Netflix direct-billing page.

2. Add another way to pay

  1. 1.Go to Manage payment info.
  2. 2.Select + Add Payment Method.
  3. 3.Enter the new payment details on Netflix’s page.
  4. 4.Select the three dots next to the payment method you want Netflix to charge first.
  5. 5.Choose Make Preferred.

Use this when Netflix offers more than one payment method on your account. Multiple methods are not available in every country, and some methods cannot be used as backups. Netflix uses a gift card balance before the preferred payment method, and an eligible backup is charged only when the preferred method is declined.

3. Remove the old card after adding the new one

Removal depends on how many payment methods are on the account. When only one payment method is on file, Netflix requires you to add a new one before removing the old one.

  1. 1.Go to Manage payment info.
  2. 2.Select the three dots next to the payment method you want to remove.
  3. 3.Choose Remove.
  4. 4.If Netflix shows Delete instead, choose Delete.
  5. 5.Sign in again if Netflix prompts you.

Some third-party payment methods cannot be removed from self-service controls. When Netflix blocks removal, use Contact Us in the Netflix Help Center.

4. Fix a Netflix account on hold

  1. 1.Go to netflix.com/payment.
  2. 2.Sign in if Netflix prompts you.
  3. 3.Select Update to change the existing payment method.
  4. 4.Select Change payment method to add a different way to pay.

A hold from a failed Netflix direct payment is fixed from Netflix payment controls. This is the path Netflix lists for failed direct-payment holds, including errors E101, 3-5005, and NQM.407.

5. Use your provider for package billing

When Netflix is included through a provider package, the main bill is handled through that provider. A provider payment problem gets fixed with the provider, not inside Netflix’s standard card screen.

  • Package payment issue: Resolve the payment problem with the provider, then relink or rejoin Netflix if the provider disconnected or canceled the Netflix account.
  • DIRECTV package hold: Contact DIRECTV, confirm whether the payment method is up to date, and resolve any late payment. For a hold caused by a provider payment issue, Netflix says the account does not need to be relinked after the issue is resolved.
  • Package disconnected or paused: If the package is still active, relink the Netflix account. If the package was canceled and no valid payment method remains, open Account and add one. If DIRECTV service was paused, unpause it and use the reactivation link DIRECTV sends to restore Netflix access.

If you are moving from direct Netflix billing to an eligible package that includes Netflix, search the Netflix Help Center for your provider package, follow that provider’s How do I activate Netflix steps, and link your existing Netflix account. Netflix says direct billing stops once the linked package covers the cost.

6. Manage extra purchases on a partner account

  1. 1.Go to Account.
  2. 2.Select Add Payment Method if Netflix shows it.
  3. 3.To update that secondary method later, go to Manage payment info.
  4. 4.Select Update next to the method, or choose + Add Payment Method.

Some partner-package accounts support extra Netflix purchases, such as extra members. Netflix shows the payment option only when the account is eligible. For a backup payment method on a partner-package account, go to the Netflix Help Center and select Contact Us; Netflix directs partner-package backup payment removal through support.

7. Follow the Comcast Xfinity billing path

Netflix lists a separate flow for accounts billed through Comcast Xfinity. This is different from a Comcast Xfinity Package account.

  1. 1.Go to Manage payment info.
  2. 2.Enter the new payment method.
  3. 3.Select Save.

For a Comcast Xfinity Package account, follow the provider-package route instead.

8. Check country-specific Google Play and Apple billing

Netflix still maintains a country-specific Netflix Billing through Play help page, but that page is not available for U.S. accounts. If the page is available for your country and your account is billed through Google Play, follow the directions Netflix displays for that country. Otherwise, use Netflix’s browser payment controls; the standard Netflix app does not manage payment methods, except when it was downloaded from the Samsung Galaxy Store.

Apple billing is legacy for Netflix and is not available for most new or rejoining members. Existing Apple-billed members should follow Netflix’s Apple-billing help page or switch away from Apple billing through Netflix’s supported account flow; do not treat Apple subscriptions as the normal way to change Netflix payment today.

9. Contact Netflix when removal is blocked

  1. 1.Open the Netflix Help Center.
  2. 2.Select Contact Us.
  3. 3.Ask support to remove payment methods from the account.

Use support when Netflix’s account page will not let you remove a payment method. Netflix says Customer Service cannot remove one specific payment method. Customer Service can remove all payment methods when the account is not billed through a partner and is not paid with a gift card.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I change my Netflix payment method in the Netflix app?

No for the standard Netflix app. Netflix says payment methods cannot be managed in the app, except for the Netflix app downloaded from the Samsung Galaxy Store. Use Netflix account controls in a browser.

Why does Netflix charge my gift card balance before my preferred card?

Netflix applies a gift card balance before charging the preferred payment method. Backup methods are used only when the preferred method is declined.

What happens if my Netflix package through a carrier is canceled?

Netflix charges another valid payment method already on file. If there is no valid payment method, the account goes on hold and you add a new payment method from Account.

Can I use a Netflix gift card instead of a payment card?

Eligible accounts can redeem a Netflix gift card at netflix.com/redeem. Netflix says gift cards cannot be redeemed on Apple-billed accounts, Netflix-included package accounts or package add-ons, or extra member accounts.
