Cash App is a financial platform for sending money, banking, saving, and investing; this guide shows you how to block another Cash App account. To block someone on Cash App, open the app, tap the magnifying glass in the top-right corner, search for their account, open their profile, then scroll to the bottom and tap Block. You can search using their name, $Cashtag, phone number, or email. These steps apply to the US Cash App mobile apps for iOS and Android.

The short version

  • Block a person: Search for their account, open their profile, and tap Block at the bottom.
  • Use an existing avatar: Tap the person's avatar to open their profile and reach Block.
  • Limit requests: Open Privacy and choose No one or Contacts only under Payment requests.
  • Report separately: Tap Report on the person's profile and follow the prompts to submit their account for review.

Open Cash App and tap the magnifying glass icon in the top-right corner. Enter the person's name, $Cashtag, phone number, or email, then select their account to open their profile. Scroll to the bottom and tap Block.

Check that you have selected the account you intend to block before taking that last step. If you cannot find the person by name, try another supported identifier, such as their $Cashtag, phone number, or email.

Block someone from their avatar

If you already have access to the person's customer avatar, tap it to open their profile. Scroll to the bottom and tap Block. If you cannot reach their avatar, use account search to open the same profile blocking control.

Limit incoming payment requests

In the mobile app, tap your profile icon in the top-right corner of the home screen. Select Privacy, then find Payment requests. Choose No one to stop incoming requests or Contacts only to restrict requests to contacts.

These settings control payment requests rather than blocking an individual account. Choosing Contacts only excludes a particular person only if they are outside your permitted contacts.

To manage requests on the website, sign in at Cash App's website and open the profile icon in the bottom-left corner. Click Account, then turn off Incoming requests under Privacy. To allow requests from contacts, leave Incoming requests on and select Contacts only.

Report a suspicious or abusive account

For suspected scams, harassment, or other policy violations, tap the magnifying glass in Cash App. Search using the person's name, $Cashtag, phone number, or email, then select their account. Scroll to the bottom of their profile, tap Report, and follow the prompts.

Blocking and reporting are separate actions. If you want to block the person as well as submit a report, also tap Block on their profile.

Block a contact for your child

As a parent or guardian, you can use sponsor controls for managed accounts for ages 6 to 12 and sponsored accounts for ages 13 to 17, but managed accounts are not currently available to New York residents. To block through a transaction, open Money, select Family, and choose your child's account. Select the transaction from the person you want to block, scroll to the bottom of the transaction, and select Block. Cash App then offers Report as an optional separate action if you also want to flag the contact for review.

To search for someone through the family controls, open Money > Family and choose your child's account. Select Controls and Limits, then select Blocked accounts. Search using a name, $Cashtag, phone number, or email, then select Block for the contact.

If you sponsor a teen ages 13 to 17, you can also open the notification sent when your teen first sends or receives money with a new contact. Cash App lets you block the contact through that notification flow. For the menu route, open Money > Family, choose the teen's account, and select Controls and Limits > Blocked accounts, then search for the contact and select Block.

Block a business or remove linked access

For business charges through Cash App Card or Cash App Pay, open Activity and choose a transaction from the business. Select the business icon to open its profile, then select Block/unblock. You need a previous transaction, and this option is not available for every business.

If business blocking is unavailable, you can remove a linked business's access by selecting your profile icon and opening Linked apps and businesses. Find the business and select Remove. Removing linked access may not stop charges if the business separately stores your card number, so contact Cash App Support to request a business payment block.

Ask Support to block business payments

If you cannot use a business's Cash App Card or Cash App Pay blocking option, open your profile, select Support, and choose Start a Chat. Ask Support to block payments to the business.

For ACH debits, which use your routing and account numbers, you must request a block through Support. You cannot manage ACH blocks directly in the app, so open the same chat route and ask Cash App Support to block that merchant's recurring ACH debits at least three business days before the scheduled transfer. The merchant must have previously made an ACH debit from your Cash App account.

Close your account to stop all incoming payments

If you want to leave Cash App and prevent incoming payments from everyone, you can close your account. Withdraw all funds first, including funds in any linked personal or business account. Then tap your profile icon and select Support > Account & Settings > Close Your Cash App Account.

Closing your account disables your $Cashtag and prevents incoming payments. Any linked personal or business accounts also close, so choose account closure only when you intend to close those accounts too.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can a teen undo a block set by their sponsor?

If you have a sponsored account, you cannot undo a block imposed by your sponsor. Your sponsor controls that block through the family controls.

Will reporting someone get their Cash App account closed?

Your report does not guarantee that Cash App will suspend or close the account. Cash App can take enforcement action for policy violations, but you cannot require a particular outcome.

Does blocking a business cancel a subscription?

Blocking a business does not cancel your subscriptions or outstanding obligations. You need to handle subscription cancellation separately from the payment block.

Does closing your Cash App account sign you out on other devices?

Closing your Cash App account signs you out of all sessions. This includes sessions on other devices where you are signed in.
