To turn off mouse acceleration in Windows, uncheck Enhance pointer precision on the Pointer Options tab in Mouse Properties, then select OK. On Windows 11 installations with the direct toggle, you can also turn it off in Settings. The classic dialog provides a route for both Windows 11 and Windows 10.
The short version
- Windows setting: Turn off Enhance pointer precision to disable Windows mouse acceleration.
- Reliable fallback: Open Mouse Properties, select Pointer Options, uncheck Enhance pointer precision, then select OK.
- Separate adjustments: Lowering DPI or pointer speed does not by itself turn acceleration off.
- Extra software: Mouse utilities and games can have separate acceleration controls that need their own changes.

Turn off acceleration in Windows Settings
On Windows 11, open Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Mouse. Set Enhance pointer precision to Off. To enable acceleration again, set the same toggle to On.
If the toggle is missing, on Windows 11 open Start > Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Mouse, then select Additional mouse settings under Related settings. In Mouse Properties, select Pointer Options and find Motion. Uncheck Enhance pointer precision, then select OK.
You can also open the Windows 11 mouse settings page directly. Press Windows + R, enter the following command, then press Enter.
ms-settings:mousetouchpadTurn Enhance pointer precision Off, or use Additional mouse settings and the classic-dialog steps above if the toggle is absent.
Open Mouse Properties directly
On Windows 10, select the Search box on the taskbar and enter the following command. Select main.cpl from the results to open Mouse Properties.
main.cplSelect Pointer Options, uncheck Enhance pointer precision, and select OK. To enable Windows acceleration again later, check Enhance pointer precision and select OK.
Change acceleration with your keyboard or voice
You can also operate the classic dialog with your keyboard. First open Mouse Properties using one of the routes above.
Press Ctrl + Tab until you reach Pointer Options, then press Tab until Enhance pointer precision has focus. If the checkbox is checked, press Spacebar to uncheck it. Press Tab until OK has focus, then press Enter.
Voice access provides another option on Windows 11 version 22H2 and later when it is already configured and the direct toggle is available. With Voice access running and the Mouse settings page open, confirm that Enhance pointer precision is On, then say Show numbers. Say the displayed number beside that switch and confirm that it changes to Off.
Adjust separate acceleration in Razer Synapse
For the Razer Viper V4 Pro in Razer Synapse 4, select the mouse, open ADVANCED, and turn off DYNAMIC SENSITIVITY. This controls the mouse's separate acceleration. Availability varies by model, so these steps do not apply to every Synapse-compatible mouse.
To customize acceleration instead, enable DYNAMIC SENSITIVITY and choose CLASSIC, NATURAL, JUMP, or CUSTOM. These are separate from Windows Enhance pointer precision, so changing one does not replace configuring the other.
The Viper V4 Pro also provides a route to the Windows control through Synapse 4. Select the mouse, open PERFORMANCE, and select Mouse Properties. Select Pointer Options, uncheck Enhance pointer precision, then select OK.
Adjust acceleration in SteelSeries GG
For supported SteelSeries mice, open SteelSeries GG, select Engine, and open your mouse's settings. Adjust the Acceleration / Deceleration setting there. Controls and layout vary by model.
SteelSeries identifies acceleration support for Rival 5, Prime, Prime+, Prime Wireless, and Sensei Pro. SteelSeries says these effects require GG Engine to be running on those models, so quitting GG completely also stops that software-dependent behavior.
Disable Raw Accel or Custom Curve processing
If you use Raw Accel 1.7.1 on a supported Windows 10 or Windows 11 system, open rawaccel.exe. Choose Off in the acceleration-type dropdown, then select Apply. When you have separate X and Y acceleration configurations, choose Off for both before applying.
To bypass Raw Accel for one mouse, open Advanced > Device Menu and select that mouse. Check Override defaults:, check Disable:, then select Apply. To change the default for devices instead, select Disable by default and select Apply.
In Custom Curve 4 on Windows 10 or Windows 11, open Options > Processing and uncheck Processing enabled. You can also toggle processing through its system tray icon. Disabling processing leaves Windows Enhance pointer precision independently configurable.
With the Custom Curve interface running, press the default kill switch, Ctrl + Alt + F12, to disable processing. If you changed that binding, use the combination shown under Options > Processing. The shortcut requires the interface to remain running.
Remove acceleration software you no longer need
For complete Raw Accel driver removal on Windows 10 or Windows 11, run uninstaller.exe from the extracted Raw Accel release directory. Restart the computer for removal to take effect. Closing the Raw Accel interface does not perform that removal.
To uninstall an application such as Custom Curve or SteelSeries GG on Windows 11, open Start > Settings > Apps > Installed apps. Open the application's More menu and select Uninstall. If you remove Custom Curve, restart the computer for removal to take effect.
Alternatively, on Windows 11 open Start > All apps, right-click the application, and select Uninstall. You can also open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features, right-click the application, and select Uninstall or Uninstall/Change. Removing SteelSeries GG also stops the acceleration effects that depend on it running.
Check the game if acceleration persists there
In the PC version of Apex Legends, open the game's Settings, select the Mouse/Keyboard tab, and set Mouse Acceleration to Off. This changes acceleration within Apex Legends. It leaves the Windows setting separately configurable.
Games that use raw input can bypass Windows pointer processing, while driver-level acceleration can still affect their input. If changing Enhance pointer precision does not change how one game feels, check that game's controls and any acceleration utility you use. The Windows checkbox does not control every layer of mouse processing.
Keep pointer speed and DPI separate
Acceleration, pointer speed, and DPI or CPI are different adjustments. Moving the pointer-speed slider, lowering DPI, or selecting the sixth speed notch does not by itself disable acceleration. Keep Enhance pointer precision off when your goal is to remove Windows acceleration.
If you also want to adjust your mouse's DPI, first check your mouse DPI so you know which setting you are changing. Treat that adjustment separately from the Windows acceleration checkbox. Polling rate, smoothing, and scroll-wheel acceleration are separate settings too.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do these mouse settings also turn off touchpad acceleration?
Do not assume they also disable Precision Touchpad acceleration. These physical-mouse controls should not be treated as touchpad acceleration instructions.
What does Mouse keys acceleration change?
It changes acceleration when you move the pointer with the numeric keypad, rather than with a physical mouse. On Windows 11, open Start > Settings > Accessibility > Mouse, expand Mouse keys, and adjust Mouse keys acceleration.
Can Razer mouse acceleration be adjusted in a browser?
On Windows 11, Razer Synapse Web supports Dynamic Sensitivity configuration for the DeathAdder V4 Pro with compatible firmware. Open Synapse Web in Chrome, Microsoft Edge, or Opera, select ADD DEVICE, and connect the mouse. Razer says no additional driver or extension is required with compatible firmware, but does not publish the remaining menu labels for adjusting Dynamic Sensitivity.
Can Custom Curve switch profiles automatically for different apps?
Yes, Custom Curve 4 supports application rules and a Bypass preset that bypasses processing. Under Rules > New Application, configure Detection and choose the desired Startup Profile. Use New Shortcut within a window context to assign a profile to a keyboard combination or mouse button. Keep the Custom Curve interface running for profile switching.
Can an administrator configure acceleration programmatically?
A Windows desktop utility or user-context management script can call SystemParametersInfo with SPI_SETMOUSE, uiParam=0, and an array containing the two thresholds and acceleration level. An acceleration level of 0 disables acceleration, while SPIF_UPDATEINIFILE | SPIF_SENDCHANGE persists and broadcasts the change.
Where did the VALORANT RawInputBuffer toggle go?
Riot removed the RawInputBuffer toggle in patch 11.06 and made it permanently enabled. Raw-input buffering is distinct from the Windows-wide acceleration setting, so older instructions to enable that toggle no longer apply.
Should you follow old Logitech Gaming Software acceleration instructions?
Use the Windows controls to change Windows acceleration instead of relying on an old Logitech software path. Logitech says G HUB succeeded Logitech Gaming Software for new devices in 2019. Do not transfer the older acceleration-checkbox instructions to G HUB or Logi Options+.
Why might the direct Windows toggle be missing?
Microsoft does not specify the minimum Windows 11 build that includes the direct Enhance pointer precision toggle. Its availability therefore cannot be tied to a specific build from Microsoft's mouse-setting instructions. Use Mouse Properties when your installation does not show it.
