You added someone on Roblox, but they still do not appear as a trusted friend. Both accounts need an age check before you use the invitation or approval route that fits your ages. Start with that check, then choose from the link, QR, contacts, and parent-approved options below.
Start with an age check on both accounts
Complete an age check on each account before sending a trusted-friend request.
On desktop, open the gear icon and select Settings. On mobile, open More (...) and select Settings.
Open Account info, then Age Group.
Select Continue with selfie and complete the camera-based age check.
For the alternative ID check, users aged 13 or older with a government-issued photo ID can open Settings > Account Info > Continue with ID > Continue.
Permit camera access.
Photograph your ID and yourself.
Then return to Roblox for the result.
Have the other person complete an age check on their account too.
Send a dedicated trusted-friend link
This route establishes trusted status when you and your friend are both age-checked teens aged 13–17.
Search for the person's username in Roblox.
Select People to find their account.
Open their profile.
Select Add Friend to send an ordinary friend request. Skip this step if you are already friends.
Have them accept the request through Add Friends.
Open your friend's profile again.
Open the three-dot menu.
Select Add trusted friend.
Choose Add via link.
Share the invitation outside Roblox. An ordinary shared profile link does not establish trusted status.
Have your friend accept through the dedicated invitation link within 30 days.
Scan a live QR code when you are together
A live QR scan gives age-checked users aged 13 or older an in-person route. To display your code in the mobile or desktop Roblox app, open Home > Add Friends (+) > My QR.
Show the live code to the other person. Have them scan it with their phone camera, then complete the request.
For Roblox's built-in scanner, have them open My QR and select the camera-scanner icon at the upper right. They then scan your live code and complete the request.
The scan upgrades existing friendships, so there is no need to unfriend each other first. A screenshot of the QR code does not establish trusted status.
Find someone through your phone contacts
Open Home in the mobile Roblox app. Contact Importer supports eligible age-checked users aged 13 or older, including adult–teen pairs; availability varies.
Select Add Friends (+).
Open Contacts.
Select the person from your phone contacts to send the request.
Alternatively, accept the contact-import request they send you.
To make your own number discoverable, open Settings > Account Info > Add Phone. Phone verification is available to eligible accounts in supported countries.
Enter your phone number.
Enter the Roblox security code delivered through SMS or WhatsApp.
Consent to phone-number discoverability when prompted. Phone verification does not replace the age check or establish trusted status.
If you did not enable discoverability at the prompt, enable it under Settings > Privacy.
If contacts access is blocked on iPhone, open the phone's Settings > Privacy & Security > Contacts > Roblox after Roblox has requested access.
Choose access under Contacts Access.
If you use Limited Access, open Edit Selected Contacts.
Include the person you want Roblox to find.
Select Done.
On Android, open Settings > Apps > Roblox > Permissions > Contacts. Menu names vary by manufacturer.
Select Allow.
Keep the relevant person included in your allowed contacts so Roblox can access their contact entry.
Use a direct profile upgrade if you qualify
This upgrades an existing friendship through mutual acceptance for two age-checked adults aged 18 or older, or eligible pairs both aged 16–17.
Open your friend's profile. Availability for pairs aged 16–17 depends on account eligibility.
Open the three-dot menu.
Select Add trusted friend.
Have the recipient accept through their notifications or your profile. Both people must agree to the upgrade.
Get parent approval for a child
Age-checked children aged 12 or younger need parental approval; regional rules also require approval for some older users.
- 1.On the child's account, open the friend's profile and its three-dot menu, then select Add trusted friend > Add > Ask now.
- 2.Without a linked parent, enter the parent's email address and select Send email.
- 3.The linked parent opens the request email and selects Review. An unlinked parent must first select Create account or Use existing account, complete verification and linking, and select Agree. The parent account's email must match the invitation email.
- 4.The parent selects Allow or Don’t Allow. Linked parents can also reach these choices through their Settings > Parental Controls > the child's dashboard > Pending requests. Requests expire after 24 hours.
- 5.After approval, have the recipient accept the trusted-friend request. Both accounts must be age-checked, and a recipient under 13 also needs parental approval.
- 6.For the automatic parent–child route, age-check both accounts and open the child's Settings > Parental Controls > Add parent. Complete parent verification, select Agree, and establish an ordinary Roblox friendship. Eligible linked parent–child friendships upgrade automatically, subject to regional availability.
Check and manage your trusted friendship
Open Friends > Trusted to confirm the person is on your trusted-friends list.
Look for the Trusted indicator beside their username on their profile or in chat.
To remove trusted status, open their profile menu.
Select Remove trusted friend to retain the ordinary friendship. Either person can remove trusted status.
Choose Remove friend instead to remove the friendship entirely.
As a linked parent, open Settings > Parental Controls > Friends > Manage to review your child's friends.
Open the person's three-dot menu.
Select Block.
Confirm the block to remove them from the child's friend list. Parents cannot simply downgrade a child's trusted friendship.
Check for the Trusted indicator after acceptance to confirm that an upgrade is complete.
Check why the option or list is missing
Trusted-friend options depend on age eligibility, account availability, and regional rules. Use a live QR scan or Contact Importer for eligible users aged 13 or older, a dedicated invitation link when both people are teens aged 13–17, and the parent-approval route for children.
Older tutorials use Connections for Friends and Trusted Connections for Trusted Friends. Follow the current labels in your account.
If a camera-based check or Roblox QR scan is blocked on iPhone, open Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera.
Turn on Roblox access if it is listed.
On Android, open Settings > Apps > Roblox > Permissions > Camera.
Select Allow only while using the app.
If Android camera access is disabled globally, enable Camera access under Settings > Security & privacy > Privacy > Privacy controls.
If your trusted-friends list disappeared, complete the ID verification process described above through Settings > Account Info > Continue with ID. Roblox identifies ID verification as a restoration step, but recovery is not guaranteed.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does being age-checked automatically make two adults trusted friends?
No. Automatic enhanced chat between two age-checked adults does not establish trusted status. You still need an eligible trusted-friend request and acceptance.
Can I limit chat to trusted friends?
Yes, on eligible accounts. Open Settings > Privacy & content maturity > Communication > Chat and Party with friends. Select Trusted friends for the text-chat audience. Where available, use the same audience for Voice Chat with friends. Availability depends on age and region. These controls use existing trusted status; they do not add anyone.
Will turning off contact syncing remove my trusted friends?
No. Disabling syncing leaves established friendships intact. Revoke Roblox's contacts permission in device settings on each device to stop syncing. To delete uploaded contact data, open Roblox Settings > Privacy and use the contact-data deletion control. Desktop browser settings let you delete synced data from all devices.
Can an adult start a trusted-friend request with a child?
Yes. Open the child's profile, open the three-dot menu, and select Add Trusted Friend. Both accounts must be age-checked, and the child's parental approval requirements still apply.
