When your Acer Swift Go 14 is completely unresponsive, it's a stressful moment. The screen stays black, the fans are silent, and pressing the power button does nothing. I'd start by checking the power supply, as that's the most common culprit for a laptop that seems dead.

Check the Charger and Port

First, make sure the USB-C charger is firmly plugged into the laptop's port. Check both ends of the cable, especially if it's detachable from the power brick. Try a different wall outlet to rule out a problem with the socket itself.

Look for any signs of damage on the cable or the port. The Swift Go 14 uses USB-C for charging, and a bent or dirty port can prevent a proper connection. If you have another compatible USB-C charger, even one from a phone, try it to see if a charging indicator appears.

Perform a Power Drain (EC Reset)

This is often the most effective first fix. Disconnect the charger and all peripherals. Hold down the power button for a full 30 seconds. This drains any residual power from the motherboard's capacitors and resets the Embedded Controller (EC), which manages power.

After the 30 seconds, plug the charger back in and wait a moment. Then, press the power button normally to try and turn it on. I've seen this resolve many cases where the laptop appears completely dead.

Look for Signs of Life

Your laptop might actually be on, but the display isn't working. In a quiet room, listen very closely near the keyboard or vents for the faint sound of a fan spinning up. Check if the keyboard backlight turns on when you press a key.

Connect the Swift Go 14 to an external monitor or TV using its HDMI or USB-C port. If you get a picture on the external screen, the issue is with the laptop's internal display or its connection. This is a known troubleshooting step for OLED models where display issues can occur.

Let It Charge Undisturbed

If the battery was run down to absolute zero, the system might need to charge for a while before it can boot. Leave it plugged into the official charger for at least 30 minutes without trying to turn it on.

Watch the area around the charging port for a small LED indicator. If it lights up, even dimly, power is getting to the battery. Some models will show a battery icon on the screen after a period of charging, even if it won't fully boot yet.

Boot Directly Into BIOS

As soon as you press the power button, immediately start tapping the F2 key repeatedly. If the hardware is functional, this should bypass Windows and take you into the BIOS setup screen.

Getting into the BIOS is a great sign. It means your core components are working. If you can get here, you can check system information or use the option to boot from a recovery drive. To access Acer's recovery environment, you would use Alt + F10 at boot instead.

Disconnect Everything External

A faulty peripheral can sometimes prevent a laptop from powering on. Unplug every single thing: USB drives, mice, hubs, docking stations, and SD cards. The Thunderbolt ports on the Swift Go 14 can be sensitive to certain docks.

Try to power on with only the charger connected. If it works, reconnect your devices one by one to identify the problematic one.

Inspect for Physical Issues

Carefully examine the laptop. Look for any visible damage, especially around the edges of the screen or the chassis. Check the bottom panel for any unusual bulging, which could indicate a swollen battery.

A swollen battery is a serious safety hazard and can physically prevent the laptop from turning on. If you see any bulging, do not continue to charge or use the device. The battery needs to be replaced.

Check with Acer Care Center (If You Can Boot)

If you manage to get the laptop to turn on after any of these steps, run the Acer Care Center application. It can perform a system checkup, update critical drivers, and diagnose hardware issues that might have contributed to the startup problem.

Keeping drivers updated, especially for the chipset and power management, can prevent future boot issues. This is a good habit to get into once your system is stable again.
