Is your Redmi Note 14 Pro stuck in one orientation and refusing to flip when you turn it sideways? It's a common hiccup with Xiaomi's HyperOS, where the auto-rotate feature just stops responding.

The issue can be anything from a quick settings toggle to a deeper software glitch. Here are the most effective ways to get your screen rotating smoothly again on your Note 14 Pro.

Toggle the Quick Settings Tile

The absolute first thing to check is the auto-rotate toggle in your notification shade. It's incredibly easy to tap it by accident, locking your screen in place.

Swipe down from the top of your screen to open the Quick Settings panel. Look for the icon that looks like a phone with arrows circling it. If it's highlighted or says "Auto-rotate," it's on. If it's grayed out or shows a lock symbol, tap it to enable rotation.

Restart Your Phone

If the toggle is on but nothing happens, give your phone a fresh start. A simple reboot can clear out temporary software bugs that might be confusing the accelerometer.

Just press and hold the power button until the power menu pops up, then tap "Restart." Wait for it to fully boot back up and try rotating the screen again. I've found this fixes the issue more often than you'd think.

Check for a Stuck Sensor in Settings

HyperOS has a hidden menu that can tell you if the rotation sensor is physically stuck. To access it, open your dialer and enter *#*#6484#*#*. This opens the CIT (Component Integrity Test) menu.

Scroll down and tap on "Accelerometer" or "G-Sensor" to run the test. It will show a graphic with a bubble. Tilt your phone in all directions; the bubble should move freely to the lowest point. If it's stuck in one corner, there's a sensor issue.

Update Your System Software

Bugs in HyperOS can sometimes break basic functions like auto-rotate. Xiaomi regularly pushes updates that fix these kinds of problems.

Go to Settings > About phone > HyperOS version. Tap "Check for updates" and install anything available. The Dimensity 7300 Ultra in your phone handles updates well, so this process should be quick.

Clear Data for the Sensor Service

Sometimes the system service that manages the sensors gets its data corrupted. You can reset it without harming your personal files.

Head to Settings > Apps > Manage apps. Tap the three-dot menu and select "Show all apps." Find an app called "Device Health Services" or "Sensor Calibration." Tap into it, then select "Clear data" and confirm. Restart your phone afterward.

Test in Safe Mode

A third-party app you installed could be interfering with the rotation sensors. Booting into Safe Mode disables all downloaded apps, letting you see if one of them is the culprit.

Press and hold the power button until the power menu appears. Then, press and hold the "Power off" option on your screen. A prompt will ask if you want to reboot to Safe Mode; tap "OK." If auto-rotate works perfectly in Safe Mode, you'll need to uninstall recently added apps one by one to find the bad one.

Check for App-Specific Rotation Locks

Not every app supports landscape mode. If rotation fails only in one app, like your camera or a specific game, that app might have its own orientation lock.

Try rotating the screen in different apps like Chrome, YouTube, and the gallery. If it works everywhere except one, the problem is with that app, not your phone. Check the app's own settings for a rotation lock, or try updating the app from the Play Store.

Perform a Force Restart

If the screen is completely unresponsive, a normal restart might not be possible. In that case, a force restart can kick the system back to life. This is different from a standard reboot and won't delete any data.

Simply press and hold the power button for 15 seconds or longer. Keep holding it until you see the Redmi or Xiaomi logo appear, then release. The phone will boot up normally. This is a good final software step before considering a hardware fault.
