Your Xbox One DVD drive can fail in a few different ways: the console ignores the disc, a movie opens to a black screen, the disc gets stuck, or games work but DVDs do not. 1. Start with the disc and the slot
Put the disc in the right way first. When the Xbox One is horizontal, insert the disc with the artwork or label facing the top of the console.

You can also insert a DVD or Blu-ray Disc, select Blu-ray Player when it appears, and choose Install. The disc should start playing automatically after the app installs.
3. Reinstall Blu-ray Player when movies still fail
A broken Blu-ray Player install can stop movie discs even when the drive still reads game discs. Press the Xbox button to open the guide, then open My games & apps. After that, select See all, then Apps.
Highlight Blu-ray Player, press the Menu button, then select Uninstall and follow the prompts. Reinstall it from Store or by inserting a DVD or Blu-ray Disc.
4. Restart the console and reinsert the DVD
Eject the DVD, then press and hold the Xbox button in the center of the controller. Select Restart console, then select Restart. Wait for the Home screen, then insert the DVD again.
Use this when a DVD opens to a black screen or the console needs a clean playback start. For a stronger power cycle, hold the Xbox button on the front of the console for about 10 seconds. Turn it back on with the Xbox button. To fully disconnect power, turn it off, unplug the power cable, wait 10 seconds, plug it back in, and press the Xbox button.
5. Switch power mode when no discs read
When the drive does not recognize any disc, change the power mode before the next hard restart. Press the Xbox button to open the guide, then go to Profile & system > Settings > General > Power options.
Select Shutdown (energy saving), then hold the Xbox button on the console for 10 seconds. Press the Xbox button on the console again to restart. Try the disc again, and if the disc reads after this, you can return to Sleep mode.
6. Match the region and disc type
Movie discs follow region rules: Blu-ray regions use A, B, or C, and standard DVD regions use 1 through 8. The disc region must match the region where the Xbox console was purchased unless the disc is region-free or all-region.
Use supported disc types only: Xbox games, music CDs, commercial Blu-rays, and commercial DVDs. Xbox game discs are not region-coded. Movie DVDs and Blu-rays are region-coded.
7. Fix blank screens and Blu-ray errors
Press the Xbox button, then go to Profile & system > Settings > General. Open TV & display options, then select Video modes. Finally, select Allow 24Hz to turn it off.
If the screen goes blank after Blu-ray playback starts, turn off 24Hz video. For Blu-ray error 0x91d7000a, eject the Blu-ray Disc first. From Home, highlight the Blu-ray tile, press the Menu button, select Quit, then go to Profile & system > Power > Restart console > Restart. Reinsert the disc after the restart.
8. Eject a stuck disc safely
Use the normal eject controls before using the manual eject hole. Press and hold the Xbox button on the controller to open the Power Center. Select Restart console, then select Restart. After the restart, press the eject button next to the disc slot.
If that fails, press the Xbox button, select Home, highlight the inserted game, and press X to eject the disc.
When the disc still will not eject, unplug the power cord and connected cables. Uncoil a large paper clip at least 2 inches, insert it into the manual eject hole, push until the disc pops out slightly, then pull it out with a lint-free cloth. On Xbox One consoles, the manual eject hole is on the left wall around the corner from the disc slot.
9. Check settings and choose service
Go to Profile & system > Settings > Devices & connections, then open Disc or Blu-ray. Check Play disc automatically, Resume playback, Enable BD Live to improve Blu-ray playback, Persistent storage, and the language options.
Install the latest system update from Profile & system > Settings > System > Updates. To check the OS version, open Profile & system > Settings > System > Console info. Playback settings can change disc behavior without meaning the drive has failed.
Family or guest restrictions can block movie or app access while the drive still works. For a child account, go to Profile & system > Settings > Account > Family settings, select Manage family members, choose the member, and adjust Access to content. For guest access, check Profile & system > Settings > System > Access restriction options.
Use the OS reset only after the disc, app, power, region, playback, update, and restriction checks. Go to Profile & system > Settings > System > Console info > Reset console, then choose Reset and keep my games & apps.
Skip old tricks such as tilting the console, tapping it, holding the disc as it feeds, opening the console, cleaning the laser, or replacing the optical drive yourself.
