Your Project 10Million hotspot turns on, shows Wi-Fi, and still leaves the student’s device offline. The cause is usually activation, the saved Wi-Fi profile, annual data, coverage, Web Guard, or a setting in the hotspot WebUI. Work through these fixes in order, starting with the fastest checks and ending with reset and support.
1. Restart the hotspot and wait for the icons
Restart first. Project 10Million setup guidance says to power the hotspot off and back on when setup has hiccups.
- 1.Hold the Power button for 3 seconds until all LED indicators turn off.
- 2.Hold the Power button for 3 seconds until all LED indicators illuminate.
- 3.Wait until the Network and Wi-Fi indicators come on.
- 4.Connect one device and test a website.
The Project 10Million line activates when the hotspot is turned on and connects to the T-Mobile network. If activation still fails after the restart, call 1-877-PRJ-10MN.
2. Check the SIM and hotspot label
- 1.Remove the hotspot back cover.
- 2.Remove the battery.
- 3.Confirm the SIM card is inserted.
- 4.Find the Wi-Fi Name, also called the SSID, and the Wi-Fi Password inside the back panel. Project 10Million ships several hotspot models, so if yours has no printed panel label, use the IMPORTANT INFORMATION card it came with or the network name shown on the device screen.
- 5.Replace the battery and back cover.
- 6.Hold Power for 3 seconds to turn the hotspot back on.
A wrong saved network name or missing SIM keeps the setup from working even when the hotspot powers on. Use the printed SSID and Wi-Fi Password from this hotspot, not a network name saved from another device.
3. Reconnect the student device cleanly
If the hotspot is broadcasting but the phone, tablet, Chromebook, or laptop will not join, rebuild the Wi-Fi connection from scratch.
- 1.On the connecting device, open Wi-Fi.
- 2.Turn Wi-Fi on.
- 3.Select the hotspot SSID.
- 4.Enter the printed Wi-Fi Password.
- 5.If the device already saved that network, choose Forget or Delete for the hotspot profile, then add it again.
- 6.Turn off timeout, power-saving, or hibernate features that drop the connection.
- 7.Restart both the hotspot and the connecting device.
For devices that support it, USB-C tethering is another direct test. Turn on the hotspot, confirm it has an active data connection, connect the USB-C cable to the hotspot and the device, then open a website.
4. Separate Wi-Fi from browser or app trouble
- 1.Open two different websites or apps.
- 2.If one site or app fails while others work, close or disable background programs on the device.
- 3.Clear the browser Cache, Cookies, and History.
- 4.Turn off any VPN settings or VPN apps.
- 5.Remove apps installed around the time the problem began.
- 6.Set the device date and time correctly, enable automatic time updates, and restart the device.
A connected Wi-Fi icon only proves the device joined the hotspot, so test the actual internet path next. When only one phone or tablet fails while other devices work on the same hotspot, reset that device’s network settings.
On iPhone or iPad, go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone or iPad > Reset > Reset Network Settings. On Samsung, use Settings > General management > Reset > Reset network settings (or Reset Wi-Fi and Bluetooth settings on newer builds that split Wi-Fi from mobile) > Reset settings > Reset. On Google devices, use Settings > System > Reset options > Reset Bluetooth & Wi-Fi > Reset.
5. Confirm the annual data is still available
Project 10Million free data ends at the earlier of 200GB or 365 days. The 200GB allotment replenishes each year on the anniversary of device activation, and it keeps resetting until the five-year Project 10Million data term expires.
- 1.Go to http://t-mo.co/P10MWelcome.
- 2.Sign in with your T-Mobile ID.
- 3.Complete account verification when prompted.
- 4.Review usage and messages on the main account page.
If you do not have a T-Mobile ID, select Sign-Up under Don’t have a T-Mobile ID?. Enter the first and last name exactly as listed on the Project 10Million application, enter the hotspot phone number from the welcome email, create an 8 to 50 character password, and enter the four-digit PIN created during the application.
After the annual 200GB is used, T-Mobile lists an optional Project 10Million $10 data pass for 10GB that lasts 30 days. Sign in, select Shop, choose Purchase Data Pass, select Data, choose the pass and quantity, select Set Order Date, add it through Add to Cart, and complete the purchase.
6. Open WebUI and turn cellular data on
- 1.Connect your device to the hotspot Wi-Fi.
- 2.Open a browser and go to http://192.168.0.1.
- 3.Enter the WebUI password and select Login.
- 4.Use the default admin password for your model. The current T-Mobile Hotspot uses Admin plus the last four digits of the IMEI, such as Admin1234, and the IMEI is printed on the device label under the battery. Other Project 10Million models differ, so the Franklin T10 default is admin, and current setups use the admin password on the IMPORTANT INFORMATION card.
- 5.On first login, create a new password and log in again.
- 6.Select Settings > Network Settings.
- 7.Turn the Cellular Data switch on.
Use the hotspot WebUI when Wi-Fi works but the hotspot has no cellular data session, or when the message light is flashing. If the message LED flashes, open the SMS tab and select the message. The current T-Mobile Hotspot can receive messages, and T-Mobile sends free text messages when usage reaches 80% or 100%.
7. Rule out coverage outages and Web Guard
When setup and data both check out, look at the service area and content filtering.
- 1.Open T-Mobile’s 5G & 4G LTE coverage map.
- 2.Enter the hotspot address or a nearby landmark.
- 3.Select Enter or choose a result from the drop-down list.
- 4.Select the location to view detailed coverage.
- 5.Use + and -, or pinch to zoom.
Project 10Million is not available in Alaska, American Samoa, Guam, or the Northern Mariana Islands, and coverage is not available in some areas. During an outage or maintenance, T-Mobile service is temporarily disrupted until it is resolved, and you may need to power cycle the hotspot afterward if connection issues continue. During congestion, Project 10Million customers may notice speeds lower than other customers because of data prioritization.
If the hotspot works but only certain pages show blocked access, check Web Guard. Go to http://t-mo.co/P10MWelcome, sign in, select My Profile, choose Kids Privacy Settings, and follow the prompts to designate a Kid Line. A Primary Account Holder or Full Permission user can manage Web Guard, choose High, Medium, Low, or No Filtering, then select Save changes.
8. Reset the hotspot from current T-Mobile steps
- 1.Connect to the hotspot Wi-Fi and open http://192.168.0.1.
- 2.Select Settings.
- 3.Select Device Settings.
- 4.Choose Device > Backup and Restore > Restore Factory Defaults.
- 5.Select Reset under Factory Reset.
- 6.Select Confirm.
- 7.Wait for the device to restore.
- 8.Reconnect with the default Wi-Fi login credentials.
Reset only after the checks above fail. These WebUI steps match the current T-Mobile Hotspot; other Project 10Million models use their own T-Mobile reset tutorial, and the newer ANS Hotspot has no self-service tutorial yet, so call 1-877-PRJ-10MN for it. A factory reset restores default settings, so you reconnect with the default Wi-Fi credentials afterward, and it does not delete data stored on the SIM card. If the menus are frozen or unresponsive, use the hardware reset on the current T-Mobile Hotspot. Turn the hotspot on, insert a paperclip into the Factory Reset Pinhole, press it for 6 seconds, and release.
9. Contact the right Project 10Million support path
For Direct to Parent or Guardian Project 10Million hotspots, call 1-877-PRJ-10MN when activation or connection still fails after restart, setup, Wi-Fi, data, coverage, WebUI, and reset checks.
If the hotspot came through a school district, contact the school administrator first. School-provided Project 10Million hotspots are handled through the district, and schools use Project 10Million school support channels.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does my Project 10Million hotspot show Wi-Fi but no internet?
Check the annual data balance in the Project 10Million portal, then open the WebUI at http://192.168.0.1 and turn on Cellular Data under Settings > Network Settings. Also test more than one website or app and turn off VPN apps on the connected device.
Where is the Project 10Million hotspot password printed?
On the current T-Mobile Hotspot, remove the back cover and battery. The Wi-Fi Name, or SSID, and Wi-Fi Password are printed inside the back panel.
How much data does Project 10Million include each year?
The Direct to Parent or Guardian plan provides free data service until the earlier of 200GB or 365 days. The 200GB allotment replenishes each year on the activation anniversary until the five-year data term expires.
Should I change the APN to fix Project 10Million data?
No. T-Mobile says the current mobile hotspot comes preconfigured with the APN for the network service provider. Change APN settings only when T-Mobile Care directs it.
