Your LG dryer WiFi is not showing up because ThinQ setup, phone permissions, or the home network is blocking discovery. Start with the fastest checks, then move into router and account fixes if the dryer still will not appear.

The goal is simple: get the dryer visible in LG ThinQ, connect it to a supported 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi network, and remove the settings that interrupt setup.

Start with the current LG ThinQ app

Install or update LG ThinQ before adding the dryer again. On Android, open Google Play Store, search for LG ThinQ, open the app page from LG Electronics, Inc., then tap Install or Update.

On iPhone, open the App Store, search for LG ThinQ, then tap Get or Update.

Open LG ThinQ, sign in, keep the dryer powered on, and stand near the laundry area while the app searches.

If the dryer still does not show up, use the QR or manual add flow instead of waiting on automatic discovery.

Add the dryer the right way in ThinQ

The dryer will not appear until you finish the LG ThinQ add-device flow all the way to the end.

Open LG ThinQ and tap the + square on the dashboard.

Scan the QR code on the dryer, confirm the unit is powered on, then tap Next.

When LG ThinQ asks you to enable Wi-Fi on the product, use the Wi-Fi setup control shown by the app or your dryer manual, then tap Next.

When Set Network appears, choose your home network ID, enter your Wi-Fi password, and tap Connect.

If the QR code is missing or will not scan, tap Add Device without QR, select the dryer from the product list, then continue through Enable Wi-Fi on the product and Set Network.

Use 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi

LG Wi-Fi dryers connect through a 2.4 GHz network during setup.

  1. 1.Open your router app or router web admin page.
  2. 2.Go to Wi-Fi or Wireless.
  3. 3.Enable or create a 2.4 GHz network name.
  4. 4.Connect your phone to that 2.4 GHz network.
  5. 5.Return to LG ThinQ, choose that network on Set Network, enter the password, and tap Connect.

Connect to the temporary LG product network

Leave LG ThinQ open in the background when the iPhone setup flow asks you to connect to the appliance Wi-Fi manually.

Open iPhone Settings.

Tap Wi-Fi.

Select the LG product network name that appears for the dryer.

Enter the password for that LG network. For LG_Smart_xxxx or LG_XXXX_8b92 style names, use the last four characters repeated twice with matching case and no spaces. For LG_Smart_xx-xx-xx or LGE_Appliance_XX-XX-XX, use lge12345. For LG_Smart_ with no number or letter, leave the password blank. For [LG_product name] xxxx, use 1111122222.

Return to LG ThinQ.

Choose your home network ID when Set Network appears, enter your home Wi-Fi password, and tap Connect.

Match the capitalization shown in the LG network name because the password rule uses those characters.

Fix phone permissions that block discovery

On iPhone, open Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network, then turn on LG ThinQ. Then open Settings > LG ThinQ > Location, choose While Using the App or Always, and turn on Precise Location.

On Android, open Settings > Apps > LG ThinQ > Permissions, then allow Location. Allow Nearby devices when Android asks during product registration.

For Android discovery problems, open Settings > Location and turn on Use location. On Android 12 or higher, open Settings > Location > Location Services, then turn on Wi-Fi scanning and Bluetooth scanning.

Turn off mobile data during setup

Setup breaks when your phone switches away from the dryer's temporary LG Wi-Fi network before ThinQ finishes. LG tells you to turn off mobile data on your phone before connecting the appliance.

Turn off Mobile data on Android or Cellular Data on iPhone.

Return to LG ThinQ and add the dryer again from the + square.

Keep Wi-Fi on and stay close to the dryer until LG ThinQ connects the appliance to your home network.

Turn Mobile data or Cellular Data back on after setup is complete.

Clean up the router side

This fixes home Wi-Fi networks that do not appear in LG ThinQ or reject the dryer during setup.

Rename your Wi-Fi network if the SSID uses special characters.

In your router app or web admin page, open Wi-Fi or Wireless, edit Network Name or SSID, and use English letters and numbers only.

Move the router closer to the dryer if the signal is weak in the laundry area.

Add a Wi-Fi repeater or range extender near the dryer and connect it to the same 2.4 GHz home network.

Change the router security away from WEP.

In Wi-Fi or Wireless security, choose WPA2 or a compatible WPA2 mode, save the change, reconnect your phone, and repeat LG ThinQ setup.

Temporarily disable the router Firewall or add an exception if router security is blocking ThinQ setup traffic.

Re-enable protection after the dryer connects and the needed exception is in place.

Avoid networks that need a sign in page

LG ThinQ appliance setup needs a normal home Wi-Fi network, not a network that opens a browser login page. Hotel, dorm, apartment-managed, guest, public, and community Wi-Fi networks can block setup when they require a web sign-in.

Use a standard 2.4 GHz WPA or WPA2 Wi-Fi network for the dryer. On a managed building network, ask the administrator for a standard 2.4 GHz SSID for IoT devices.

Skip dryer factory reset sequences for this problem. The supported reset-style fix is a power cycle, then another LG ThinQ setup attempt. LG also documents a hard reset for internet issues on Wi-Fi models: press Power to turn the dryer off, unplug it or switch off its breaker, hold Start/Pause for 5 seconds, then restore power and try setup again.

Power cycle and update an old registration

Unplug the dryer if wireless signal transmission problems keep setup from completing.

Wait about one minute.

Plug the dryer back in.

Reopen LG ThinQ.

Repeat the add-device flow from the + square.

If the dryer was already registered and you replaced the router or changed the Wi-Fi name or password, open the LG ThinQ home screen menu, tap Device Settings, choose the dryer, tap Change Network, and follow the on-screen instructions.

If an old ThinQ registration is stale or duplicated, remove it in the app itself. Open the LG ThinQ home screen menu, tap Device Settings, select the dryer, delete it, then add it again from the + square. Deleting the dryer under MyLG > Products on LG.com will not clear it, because products registered in the ThinQ app do not appear in MyLG.

After the dryer is connected, use Smart Diagnosis in the LG ThinQ menu to troubleshoot intermittent connection problems. Open the top left menu, tap Smart Diagnosis, choose the dryer, and follow the guide. This works on dryers that carry the Smart Diagnosis logo. If your model does not support Wi-Fi Smart Diagnosis, the app offers audible Smart Diagnosis instead, which plays a diagnosis tone while it runs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my LG dryer show a temporary LG Wi-Fi network but not my home Wi-Fi?

Your home network is not available to the dryer when it is not a usable 2.4 GHz network, the SSID contains unsupported characters, or the signal is weak near the laundry area.

What password should I use for the LG_Smart network?

For LG_Smart_xxxx or LG_XXXX_8b92 style names, enter the last four characters repeated twice with matching case and no spaces. Other LG appliance network names use lge12345, no password, or 1111122222 depending on the exact name shown.

Do I need to factory reset my LG dryer to make Wi-Fi show up?

No. Use the supported power-cycle method: unplug the dryer, wait about a minute, plug it back in, and repeat LG ThinQ setup.

What should I do after changing my router or Wi-Fi password?

Open LG ThinQ, go to the home screen menu, choose Device Settings, select the dryer, tap Change Network, and follow the prompts to update the saved Wi-Fi network.
