If your Owlet Sock is not connecting to WiFi, the failure usually starts in setup: the phone is on the wrong network, the Base Station is out of range, registration is stuck, or the Base Station needs its saved WiFi cleared. Start with the current Owlet Dream app and a 2.4 GHz home WiFi network. These steps cover the Dream Sock and its Base Station. If you have a Smart Sock 3 or Smart Sock Plus, stay in the Owlet Care app instead, unless you are in the US or Canada and have already converted that Sock to a Dream Sock. Then work through the fixes below in the order most people need them.

Start with the current Owlet Dream App

Install Owlet Dream from Owlet's official app download page before you troubleshoot setup. On iPhone, choose Download on the Apple Store. On Android, choose Get it on Google Play, then sign in with your Owlet email address and password.

Use a 2.4 GHz WiFi network for setup. Owlet says 5G WiFi is not compatible for setup, though your phone or tablet may return to 5 GHz after the Sock is connected.

Check the WiFi password before changing anything else. Open a website on another wireless device connected to your home WiFi to confirm the internet is working.

If home internet is down, reboot the router and modem or contact your internet provider. If the signal is weak, move the Base Station closer to the router or use a router with better signal strength.

Run the normal Dream Sock WiFi setup

Use the standard setup path when you are adding the Sock for the first time or starting over after an incomplete setup.

  1. 1.Open Owlet Dream, select Join, create an account, follow the prompts, and select the region where the product was purchased.
  2. 2.Add a child Profile, choose add Device, then select Sock.
  3. 3.Plug the Base Station into the wall, place the Sensor on the charging port, and follow the app directions to connect to WiFi.
  4. 4.On Android, select the available Owlet device in the app. On iOS, open the WiFi menu and connect to the available Owlet device.
  5. 5.Select your 2.4 GHz home WiFi network, enter the password, then press and hold the Base Station until it beeps twice to register.

Use the WiFi light to choose the next move

This method applies when the app says WiFi setup was unsuccessful, but the Base Station may already be online. Turn the Base Station over and check the small WiFi status light on the bottom.

If the light is bright green, the Base Station is connected to WiFi.

If the WiFi light is off during setup, open your phone's network settings and confirm the phone is connected to the temporary Owlet WiFi network.

If the WiFi light is on but setup says unsuccessful, tap Skip Forward in the bottom right and continue Dream Sock registration.

If registration fails after WiFi connects, open your phone's WiFi settings. Leave the temporary Owlet network, connect to the same home network you used for the Dream Sock Base Station, and try registration again.

Find the temporary Owlet network

Sometimes the setup screen asks for the Owlet network, but the network does not appear on your phone. For EU, UK, and AUS Dream Sock setup, confirm the Base Station is plugged in, then turn WiFi off and back on on your phone.

Check the WiFi light on the bottom of the Base Station. If the light is already on, the Sock is already connected to WiFi, so skip the WiFi connection step in the app and move on to registration.

If the temporary network still does not appear, use the mobile browser setup path below.

Change WiFi after moving networks

Use this path when the Sock was connected before, then stopped after you moved to a temporary location or changed networks. In Owlet Dream, tap the Dream Sock gear icon and choose Change Wi-Fi.

Follow the in-app instructions to connect the Base Station to the new WiFi network. The Dream Sock Base Station remembers the five most recent WiFi networks.

When the change finishes, keep your phone on the same home network you are connecting the Base Station to. Do not switch back to the temporary Owlet network after the home WiFi connection has been set.

Connect through a mobile browser

The browser method fits when the app flow cannot pass your WiFi details to the Dream Sock Base Station. Keep the Base Station plugged in, use your 2.4 GHz WiFi password, and stay close to the router.

Open your phone's WiFi settings and connect to Owlet-XXXXXXXXXXX. If an error appears, tap Ok, confirm the phone is connected to the Owlet network, select it again if needed, and tap Done before the error returns.

Open a new mobile browser window and enter 192.168.0.1. Tap Connect next to your home WiFi network, enter the WiFi password, tap Connect again, close the browser, then reconnect the phone to your regular WiFi network.

If the browser setup fails, clear the Base Station WiFi with the hardware button, then run setup again.

Match the phone and Base Station network

The most common cause before registration is a network mismatch between your phone and the Base Station.

Before selecting the Owlet network, forget networks that are not supported for setup, including 5G, hidden, and cellular networks.

Connect your phone to the 2.4 GHz home WiFi network you want the Base Station to use.

Connect the Dream Sock Base Station to that same wireless network through the app or browser flow.

Before registering the product to your account, confirm the phone is still on the same home network.

Reset the Base Station WiFi

Clear saved WiFi from the Base Station when you need a clean setup attempt.

  1. 1.Unplug the Dream Sock Base Station and remove the sock.
  2. 2.Press and hold the Base Station button while plugging the Base Station back in.
  3. 3.Keep holding until the Base Station chirps four times and the light ring changes to blinking orange, then release the button.
  4. 4.While the ring is blinking orange, quickly press the Base Station button three times and wait for three chirps in return.
  5. 5.Confirm the WiFi light on the bottom is not illuminated and the Base Station bounces green, then press and hold the Base Station to turn off tracking so yellow or blue notifications do not start.

Finish updates and diagnostics

Firmware updates can appear during setup in Owlet Dream. Let them complete, because Sensor and Base Station updates generally take 10 to 15 minutes.

Do not remove the Sensor from the Base or unplug the Base during the update. Interrupting that step leaves setup unfinished.

For stubborn WiFi coverage or setup problems in the US and Canada, use RouteThis Helps. Open the app, tap Begin, enter OWLT, choose Device Setup, Device Performance, WiFi Coverage, or Other, then follow the diagnostic recommendations.

Do not use the Owlet Web App to fix or monitor WiFi in the US or Canada. Owlet Web App support ended after 12/31/24, and Owlet directs users to the Owlet Dream app on iOS or Android.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can an Owlet Sock connect to 5G WiFi?

Not for setup. The Dream Sock Base Station needs 2.4 GHz WiFi during setup; after setup, your phone or tablet may return to 5 GHz.

What does a bright green WiFi light mean on the Base Station?

A bright green WiFi light means the Base Station is connected to WiFi. If setup still says unsuccessful, tap Skip Forward and continue registration.

Why does registration fail after the Base Station connects to WiFi?

Registration can fail when the phone is still connected to the temporary Owlet network. Connect the phone to the same home network used by the Base Station, then register again.

What should Smart Sock 3 owners do now?

Previously purchased legacy Smart Sock 3 devices in the US and Canada can be converted to Dream Sock in Owlet Dream app version 1.0.40 or newer. The conversion is one-way and cannot be reversed. Outside the US and Canada, and before any conversion, keep using the Owlet Care app, because the Owlet Dream app does not support Smart Sock 3.
