You want a Chrome webpage on your TV, but the right casting option depends on the device in your hand and the receiver connected to your screen. Chrome on a computer has a built-in Cast menu; phones use screen sharing or supported media apps. Start with the computer steps below, jump to your phone’s section, or use the connection checks if your TV never appears.
Cast a Chrome tab to your TV
Start here to show a webpage from Chrome on Windows, Mac, or Chromebook. You need a Google TV Streamer (4K), a supported Chromecast, or a TV with Google Cast.
Connect your computer to the same Wi-Fi network as the TV or Cast receiver.
Open the webpage you want to share in Chrome.
Select More > Cast, save, and share > Cast….
On a Chromebook, Google documents a second menu path: More > Cast > Cast to, then Cast tab for the current tab or Cast desktop for the whole screen. Google's Chrome guide gives the first path for Windows, Mac and Chromebook, while its Chromebook guide gives the second, and neither names the ChromeOS versions each applies to. Use whichever of the two your Chromebook shows.
Choose your TV or receiver from the device list.
When you finish, select the toolbar’s Cast icon > Stop casting.
Cast is built into Chrome. Skip the Google Cast extension installation described in older tutorials.
Share your entire computer screen
Use screen casting when you want to show more than the current Chrome tab.
- 1.In Chrome, select More > Cast, save, and share > Cast….
- 2.Select Sources > Cast screen.
- 3.Choose your TV or Cast receiver.
- 4.Complete the screen-selection prompt to choose what to share.
- 5.To finish, select Chrome’s toolbar Cast icon > Stop casting.
For video, try the player’s Cast button
A Google Cast-enabled website sends supported media directly to your TV without mirroring the entire Chrome interface. The website must support Google Cast for this option to work.
Open the video on a website that supports Google Cast.
Select the player’s Cast icon.
Choose your receiver.
Use the website’s playback controls to control the video.
For a video or music file stored on your computer, drag a file Chrome can play into a tab. Alternatively, open the file with Ctrl+O on Windows or Command+O on Mac.
Open More > Cast, save, and share > Cast….
Select your receiver to cast the file’s tab.
If the website’s player casting fails, try casting its Chrome tab using the first method. Tab mirroring remains subject to protected-media and service restrictions.
If your TV is missing or sharing will not start
These checks address network discovery, outdated Chrome, and Mac permissions.
Connect your computer and TV or receiver to the same Wi-Fi network.
Check the receiver’s specifications for Google Cast support. AirPlay or Miracast support alone does not make a TV compatible with Chrome’s Cast menu.
On Windows or Mac, open Chrome’s More > Help > About Google Chrome to check for updates.
Select Relaunch if offered. On Chromebook, Chrome updates arrive through ChromeOS updates.
On macOS 15 or later, open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Local Network.
Enable access for Chrome.
Retry casting.
If Chrome requests screen-capture access on your Mac, open the Apple menu > System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen & System Audio Recording.
Enable Chrome when listed.
Follow any restart prompt.
Try screen casting again.
For a managed work or school browser, ask your administrator to check whether the EnableMediaRouter policy blocks Google Cast. A disabled policy prevents casting.
Show Android Chrome through Google Home
Use Google Home with a compatible Android device and Google Cast receiver to share Chrome on your TV.
- 1.Connect your phone to the receiver’s Wi-Fi network.
- 2.Enable the Microphone permission for Google Play Services.
- 3.Open Google Home and select Favorites or Devices.
- 4.Touch and hold the receiver tile.
- 5.Select Cast > Cast my screen > Cast screen > Cast one app, then choose Chrome. Google lists Android 8.0 or later for screen casting; that baseline does not guarantee single-app sharing or compatibility with today’s Google Home app.
- 6.To finish, touch and hold the receiver tile in Google Home and select Stop mirroring.
On iPhone or iPad, use AirPlay
Use Apple’s screen mirroring to show Chrome from an iPhone or iPad on an Apple TV or an AirPlay-compatible TV. This shares your device’s screen.
Join the same Wi-Fi network as the TV.
Open Control Center.
Select Screen Mirroring.
Select your TV from the list.
Enter the passcode shown on the TV if requested.
Open Chrome to display the webpage on the mirrored screen.
End the session through Control Center > Screen Mirroring > Stop Mirroring.
A cable connection when wireless casting is not an option
A compatible display cable or adapter gives you another way to show Chrome on a TV. Match the connection to your device’s video output and the TV’s input.
On a Windows 11 PC, connect the computer’s video output to the TV using a compatible cable, adapter, or dock.
Select the matching input on your TV.
Press Windows+P and select Duplicate to show the computer’s display, including Chrome, on the TV.
On a Mac, connect its HDMI or Thunderbolt output to the TV with a suitable cable or adapter.
Follow the display-sharing prompts.
Open Chrome on the connected display.
For Mac display adjustments, open System Settings > Displays.
To send Mac audio to the TV, select the TV under System Settings > Sound > Output.
If the wired connection fails, check that the chosen port supports display output and use a cable or adapter compatible with both devices.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why does the picture reach the TV but the sound stay on my computer?
Casting the entire computer screen does not guarantee that desktop audio reaches the TV. Google's fix is to cast the tab instead: with a cast tab, the sound plays on your TV rather than your computer. For supported website media, use the player’s Cast button.
Can I send a video from my iPhone to a Google Cast TV?
Yes, through a service’s Google Cast-enabled iOS app. Connect the phone and receiver to the same Wi-Fi. Open the app, tap its Cast icon, then select the TV. This sends the service’s media rather than your Chrome webpage.
Can I cast Chrome from a Galaxy phone using Smart View?
Yes, on a Galaxy phone or tablet with Smart View and a compatible TV. Connect both devices to the same Wi-Fi. Open Quick settings > Smart View. Choose the TV under Available devices, then select Start now. Approve any TV prompt and open Chrome. Compatibility with non-Samsung TVs varies. To finish, select Smart View > Disconnect.
Is there a keyboard shortcut for Chrome’s Cast menu?
Google provides no official universal keyboard shortcut for Chrome’s Cast menu. Windows+K opens Windows wireless projection through Miracast. It requires Miracast-compatible hardware; a Google Cast-only receiver does not qualify.
