Need to add money to your Venmo balance? Start with a linked bank account or debit card, or use the cash, paycheck, and check options below. If you just need to pay someone, you can use a linked payment method without loading your balance first.

Add money from your bank or debit card

For an eligible personal account, start a one-time top-up in the Venmo mobile app.

  1. 1.Open Me and tap Add Money.
  2. 2.Select From a bank or debit card.
  3. 3.Enter the amount you want to add.
  4. 4.Choose your verified bank account or eligible linked debit card.
  5. 5.Check the amount and funding source, then tap Add. You cannot cancel an initiated top-up. Bank funds typically arrive in 3–5 business days; debit-card funds are typically available immediately.

Get your account ready for a top-up

Use these setup steps if you still need to link a funding source or complete verification. Bank top-ups require a verified bank account, and balance features depend on account eligibility and identity verification.

Open Me > Wallet > Banks and Cards. Swipe left to reach Add a bank or card. Then tap Add a bank or card to complete the setup. Linking alone does not transfer money.

For a bank account, choose instant verification during linking or manual verification. Manual verification transactions generally arrive within one to three business days.

Once those transactions arrive, select the bank marked Unconfirmed under Me > Wallet. Tap Verify, enter the two verification amounts, then tap Verify again.

For identity verification, open Me > Settings using the gear icon, then Identity Verification. Submit the requested information and any requested documents. Identity verification is available in the mobile app only.

Return to Add Money to start your top-up once setup is complete. A Venmo Debit Card is not a universal requirement for adding money.

Automate your balance top-ups

For threshold-based funding, set and save Reload Amount under Me > Add Money > Auto Reload. Funding uses the selected linked bank account or debit card. These automatic funding options are available to eligible personal accounts and unavailable to Teen Accounts.

Set and save Minimum balance to choose when a reload starts. The same screen has the control for disabling reloads. Withdrawing money to a bank does not trigger a reload.

For recurring top-ups, specify the amount, frequency, and funding method under Me > Add Money > Schedule. To stop scheduled funding, turn off the switch under Schedule by 11:59 PM Pacific Time the night before the scheduled transaction.

Load physical cash at Walmart

Venmo Mastercard Debit Card and Teen Debit Card holders can load cash at participating Walmart locations, except in Vermont.

  1. 1.Bring your physical card and $20–$500 for the deposit, plus the $3.74 fee. Stay within the limits: up to three deposits totaling $999.99 per rolling 24 hours, seven totaling $3,000 per rolling seven days, and twenty totaling $4,000 per calendar month.
  2. 2.Visit a staffed register and ask to load your Venmo Debit Card.
  3. 3.Physically swipe your card.
  4. 4.Provide the cash and fee. For a deposit above $300, also provide identification matching the card.

Send your paycheck to Venmo

Direct Deposit puts wages into an approved, identity-verified Venmo account without a manual top-up.

Open Me > Settings using the gear icon, then Direct Deposit > Show Account Number. Supply the displayed routing and account numbers through your employer's payroll form or portal. Setup can take two payroll cycles.

Arrange any later changes, including stopping deposits, through your employer. For tax refunds or government benefits, provide those Venmo Direct Deposit numbers through the issuing agency's enrollment process. Eligible personal accounts support deposits including unemployment benefits and Social Security.

For an eligible Teen Account's paycheck, open Card in the teen's app. Tap the eye icon beside Direct Deposit. Give those Teen Account-specific routing and account numbers to the employer. Teen Accounts cannot receive government payments or tax refunds through Direct Deposit.

Deposit an eligible paper check

Have a paper check? Cash a Check accepts eligible checks from $5–$5,000, subject to Ingo approval. The feature is unavailable in New York and on Teen Accounts, and checks drawn on another account you own are unsupported.

Open Me > Add Money > Cash a Check. Enter the check's value. Photograph both sides of the endorsed check. Tap Next.

At Review Check Details, choose expedited availability for a fee or a ten-day wait without a fee. Expedited fees are 2% for qualifying payroll or government checks and 5% for other accepted checks, with a $6 minimum.

Submit the check for approval. Write VOID on the check only when prompted. Photograph the voided check when prompted.

If the check is not approved or the feature is unavailable, try an eligible bank or debit-card top-up through Me > Add Money > From a bank or debit card.

Receive money from someone else

If you've sent a request and your balance hasn't increased, the other person still needs to pay.

To request money, tap Pay/Request. Find the person you want to request money from, then enter the amount and a note. Choose Request. Your balance increases when they pay.

For an in-person payment, open Me. Tap the QR code button on your profile picture and select Venmo me. Show your code to the sender. They scan it, open your profile, and pay you.

To fund a linked Teen Account as its parent or guardian, open Me in your app. Tap the down arrow beside your name. Select the Teen Account.

Choose Pay or request, then tap $0. Enter the amount and a note. Tap Pay. The money becomes available in the teen's balance immediately.
