Is your POCO X7 Pro starting to feel sluggish, with apps taking longer to open or animations stuttering? That's a common experience, especially as you fill up that massive 6000mAh battery with more and more data. The good news is that HyperOS 2 on Android 15 gives you plenty of control to speed things back up.
Performance lag on a phone like this usually comes from a few areas. Storage getting too full, too many apps running background services, or even a cluttered system cache can all contribute. I'd start with a simple restart, then move through these steps to get your X7 Pro feeling snappy again.
Perform a Force Restart
This is the universal first step for any weird phone behavior. A force restart clears the phone's temporary memory (RAM) and stops any stuck processes without affecting your data.
For the POCO X7 Pro, just press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds. Keep holding it until you see the POCO or Xiaomi logo appear on the screen, then let go. The phone will boot up fresh, and you might be surprised how much of a difference this makes.
Free Up Internal Storage
When your phone's storage is nearly full, it has no room to work efficiently. The POCO X7 Pro doesn't have expandable storage, so managing what's on the device is key.
Head to Settings > Storage to see a breakdown. HyperOS will often suggest "Clean up" options right there. Pay special attention to "Duplicate files" and "App data." You can also offload large videos and photos to Google Photos or another cloud service to free up significant space instantly.
Close Apps Running in the Background
While Android is good at managing RAM, having dozens of apps suspended can still use resources. Swipe up from the bottom and hold to enter the recent apps view.
Here, you can swipe each app window up to close it. For a quicker method, tap the three dots or "Clear all" button at the bottom of the screen. Don't worry about frequently used apps like messages or email, Android will reopen them quickly when needed.
Clear App Caches (Especially for Heavy Apps)
Apps store temporary data in a cache to load faster. Over time, this cache can become bloated and corrupt, slowing the app down instead. You don't need to clear cache for every app, just the ones you use heavily or that are feeling slow.
Go to Settings > Apps > Manage apps. Select an app, then tap on Storage usage. You'll see an option to "Clear cache." This is safe and won't delete your login info or saved data within the app. Do this for your browser, social media apps, and any large games.
Update Your Apps and System Software
Outdated apps can have bugs that hurt performance, and system updates often include important optimizations. First, open the Google Play Store, tap your profile icon, and go to Manage apps & device. Install all available app updates.
Next, check for a HyperOS update. Go to Settings > About phone > HyperOS version. Tap the "Check for updates" button. If an update is available, install it. These updates frequently include performance improvements and security patches that can resolve lag.
Manage Background Restrictions for Apps
Some apps are overly aggressive about running in the background. HyperOS lets you control this on a per-app basis to save battery and processing power. Go to Settings > Apps > Manage apps and select a power-hungry app.
Tap on Battery saver. Here, you can set it to "Restrict background activity." This prevents the app from doing anything when you're not actively using it. It's a great setting for social media, news, and shopping apps that don't need to send constant notifications.
Enable and Use Game Turbo
This is a specific feature for the POCO X7 Pro that can boost gaming performance. When you open a game, you should see a floating sidebar or be able to swipe in from a corner to access the Game Turbo panel.
From here, you can tap "Boost" to prioritize system resources for the game. You can also block notifications and enable "Performance mode" for a smoother frame rate. It's a handy tool that ensures games run well, even if other parts of the system feel busy.
Reduce or Turn Off Animations
The visual transitions when you open apps or go home use processing power. Speeding them up or turning them off can make the phone feel instantly more responsive. You'll need to enable developer options first.
Go to Settings > About phone and tap on "HyperOS version" 7 times until you see a message saying you're a developer. Go back to the main Settings menu, then into Additional settings > Developer options. Scroll down to "Drawing" and find the three animation scale settings (Window, Transition, Animator). Change each one from "1x" to ".5x" or "Off."
Check for Problematic Apps
A single misbehaving app can sometimes drag down the whole system. Go to Settings > Battery and see which apps are using the most power over the last 24 hours. An app using a high percentage might be running rogue processes in the background.
You can also boot into Safe Mode to see if the lag disappears. Hold the power button, then long-press the "Power off" option on your screen until you see a prompt to reboot to Safe Mode. In Safe Mode, all third-party apps are disabled. If the phone is fast here, you know a downloaded app is the culprit.
Reset All Settings as a Last Resort
If you've tried everything and the phone is still slow, you can reset all your settings without erasing your personal data. This will revert Wi-Fi passwords, Bluetooth pairings, and your home screen layout back to default, but your photos, apps, and accounts will remain.
Go to Settings > Additional settings > Backup & reset > Erase all data (factory reset). Before you proceed, look for and select the option that says "Reset all settings" or "Reset phone settings." This is different from a full factory reset. Confirm your choice, and the phone will reboot with fresh system settings, which often clears up deep-seated software glitches.
