Reddit won’t load, your feed keeps spinning, or the app refuses to sign you in. Start with the quickest checks, then work through the fixes for your connection, app, browser, or account. Follow the route that matches your symptoms before clearing data or reinstalling anything.

Check whether Reddit is down

Open Reddit Status and check for an active incident affecting the service you’re using. Read the incident details to see whether they match your loading or app problem.

If an incident explains the failure, follow its updates and retry after recovery. Changing your device settings won’t resolve a Reddit service outage.

When no incident matches, open the same Reddit page in another supported browser or on another device. Compare the official app with reddit.com, too. If one works, use it temporarily while troubleshooting the one that fails; Reddit recommends the latest supported browser versions.

If other websites fail, test your connection

A connection failure stops Reddit and other websites from loading.

Open a different website to check whether the problem extends beyond Reddit.

On Android, open Settings > Network & internet or Settings > Connections, depending on the manufacturer.

Turn Wi-Fi off and mobile data on, then test Reddit.

Reverse the test by switching back to Wi-Fi.

For a stalled Android cellular connection, turn Airplane Mode on for ten seconds.

Turn Airplane Mode off and test again.

If Reddit works on Wi-Fi but not cellular on an iPhone, open Settings > Cellular. Cellular iPads also use the label Cellular Data for this section.

Enable Cellular Data.

Enable Reddit in the app list.

On an iPhone or iPad with a VPN enabled, use the VPN provider’s controls to disconnect it for a Reddit test. The controls depend on your provider.

When multiple devices cannot load websites on your home network, restart your modem and router using their manufacturer’s instructions. This is a power restart, not a factory reset.

Contact your internet provider if the connection still fails.

Give the app or browser a fresh start

A stuck app is the place to start with a close and reopen.

On an iPhone without a Home button, swipe up from the bottom and pause to open the app switcher. On a Home-button iPhone, double-click Home.

Swipe Reddit’s preview upward to close it.

Open Reddit again.

On a Google Pixel, open Settings > Apps > See all apps > Reddit > Force stop > OK. Other Android manufacturers use different menu paths.

Open Reddit again after the force stop.

In desktop Chrome, reload without cached content by pressing Ctrl+Shift+R on Windows or Linux, or Command+Shift+R on Mac.

If Chrome tabs are crashing, close unnecessary tabs and apps.

Pause active downloads.

Fully quit and reopen Chrome.

If the Reddit app remains stuck, restart your phone. On a Face ID iPhone, hold a volume button and the side button until the shutdown slider appears; supported Home-button models use the side button.

Slide to power off.

Wait 30 seconds, then hold the side button to start the iPhone.

On Pixel 6 and later, hold Power and Volume up until the power controls appear.

Tap Restart.

If reopening and restarting don’t help, install available updates before clearing data.

Install updates for the version you use

Choose your update route, then reopen Reddit and test the same page or action.

  1. 1.On iPhone or iPad, open App Store, select your profile icon, and open App Updates. Install the available Reddit update.
  2. 2.On Android, open Play Store, select your profile icon, and open Manage apps & devices. Update Reddit under Updates available.
  3. 3.In desktop Chrome, open More > Help > About Google Chrome. Let the update check finish and select Relaunch when offered. Linux package-managed installations update through their package manager.
  4. 4.In desktop Edge, open Settings and more > Settings > About Microsoft Edge. Apply an available update and restart when prompted.
  5. 5.To update iOS or iPadOS and its bundled Safari, back up your device and connect it to power and Wi-Fi. Open Settings > General > Software Update and select Download and Install when offered.

When Reddit works elsewhere, check your browser

Saved site data and interfering extensions are two causes of Reddit failing in one browser while working elsewhere.

In desktop Chrome, open More > New Incognito window and test Reddit. If it works there, check your normal profile’s extensions and site data. Extensions explicitly allowed in Incognito still run there, so this test does not rule out every extension problem.

Open More > Extensions > Manage extensions.

Turn extensions off for another Reddit test.

Re-enable them individually, testing Reddit after each one to identify the extension responsible.

If extensions aren’t responsible, open More > Settings > Privacy and security > Third-party cookies > See all site data and permissions.

Search for reddit.

Select Delete beside its entry.

Confirm Delete.

Sign in to Reddit again.

On Mac Safari, test Reddit through File > New Private Window.

If it works privately, open Safari > Settings > Privacy > Manage Website Data.

Select Reddit.

Choose Remove > Done.

Sign in again after removing the site data.

To test Safari extensions separately, open Safari > Settings > Extensions.

Deselect extensions for another Reddit test.

Restore them individually, testing Reddit after each one.

In Firefox, open Menu > Help > Troubleshoot Mode… > Restart > Open.

Test Reddit with extensions and certain customizations temporarily disabled.

For loading problems in iPhone or iPad Safari, clear browser data through Settings > Apps > Safari > Clear History and Website Data > Clear History. This clears Safari website data, not the Reddit app’s cache.

Clear Android app data or reinstall Reddit

Start with Android’s cache: on Pixel, open Settings > Apps > See all apps > Reddit > Storage & cache > Clear cache. On Samsung Galaxy, use Settings > Apps > Reddit > Storage > Clear cache. Reopen Reddit after removing these temporary files.

If clearing the cache fails, make sure you can sign back in before resetting local data, which erases local app data and settings. On Pixel, return to Storage & cache and choose Clear storage or Clear data, then OK. On Galaxy, use Storage > Clear data > Delete.

On iPhone or iPad, delete and redownload Reddit if closing and updating it haven’t helped; expect possible loss of local app data. Touch and hold Reddit, then choose Remove App > Delete App > Delete; removing only the Home Screen icon does not uninstall it. Redownload the official app from the App Store.

For an Android reinstall, open Play Store and select your profile icon. Choose Manage apps & devices > Manage > Reddit > Uninstall, which also risks losing local app data. Reinstall from the official Reddit listing and sign in again.

Get back into your account

If Reddit loads but sign-in fails, start with your original login method: Continue with Google, Continue with Apple, or Continue With Phone Number.

If email and password don’t work, try your username and password.

For a session problem while you’re still signed in, confirm that you know your credentials and can access your recovery options before logging out. Keep any working session open if you’re having two-factor authentication trouble.

On the website, select your upper-right avatar and choose Log Out.

Select Log In to sign back in.

In the mobile app, long-press the bottom-right avatar.

Tap the logout icon beside your username.

Use the account chooser’s Add account > Log in option to return.

For an email login link on iOS, choose Email me a one-time link in the app’s account chooser. On Android, enter your email in the account chooser to request a login link.

Request another link if its ten-minute window expires.

For a forgotten password, choose Forgot password? on the web or Forgot password in the app.

Enter your username or email.

Select Reset Password.

Open the emailed Reset Password link. Check spam or request another link if it hasn’t arrived.

Select the account if prompted.

Enter and confirm your new password.

Select Continue. A password reset signs you out on all devices.

If two-factor authentication blocks access, enter an unused backup code as the authentication code.

Alternatively, sign in through an already connected Google or Apple account.

For failing authenticator-generated codes, update the authenticator.

Check your device’s time and time zone.

If these steps fail, read your account-status message and follow the restriction guidance below. If someone changed your account email without permission, follow the instructions in Reddit’s email-change notice to restore your original address, then reset your password. If you still can’t get back in, open Reddit’s hacked-account request form, select Security problems > I think my account has been hacked, and include the affected account’s username.

Resolve account restrictions and missing posts

Use this route when Reddit opens but you cannot post, your profile is restricted, or a submission is missing. Check account messages and community rules before trying another reinstall.

Read the account-status message first. A security lock requires a password reset.

For a Reddit rules ban, open the inbox notification and follow its appeal instructions. Missing posts, messages, and profile visibility are also signs of an account flagged for spam.

For a missing submission, open the community’s sorting menu above its posts and choose New. In the mobile apps, use the sorting dropdown on the left.

Read the community rules and any removal explanation if the post is still missing.

Correct applicable formatting or eligibility issues.

If you believe a removal was mistaken, contact the moderators. On the website, find Moderators in the community sidebar and select Message the mods.

In the app, open the community’s top-right overflow menu and select Message moderators. Reinstalling a browser cannot reverse a moderator’s decision.

For a posting-frequency restriction, follow the displayed limit.

Build legitimate participation in the community. Community karma is a factor in Reddit’s posting limits, and buying Reddit Premium does not remove the spam filter.

Report a problem that survives these fixes

A reproducible bug report gives Reddit the details needed to investigate an unresolved failure.

Check r/RedditBugs for acknowledged issues.

Search recent r/bugs posts for the same symptoms.

Record your device, operating system, the steps that trigger the problem, what you expected, and what actually happened.

Capture relevant screenshots of the failure.

Use the reporting link in Reddit Help’s How do I report a bug? page to submit those details to r/bugs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does offloading Reddit on an iPhone clear all its app data?

No. Offloading retains the app’s documents and data. Use it to free storage, not to reset all Reddit app data.

Why does Reddit work in the foreground but stop updating in the background on Android?

With Data Saver active, background activity is restricted while foreground apps normally retain mobile-data access. On Pixel-style Android settings, open Settings > Network & internet > Data Saver > Unrestricted data and enable Reddit.

Why do Reddit videos play without sound?

The Android app remembers the last in-feed mute state. Unmute a video in the feed to restore sound. On iOS, open Reddit’s Settings > Advanced and turn off Mute videos by default.

Will reinstalling Reddit delete my account?

No. Deleting the app does not delete your Reddit account. Make sure you can sign back in before uninstalling.
