Canva running slowly turns a quick edit into a frustrating wait. Connection problems, competing apps, browser settings, and heavy exports each need a different fix. Start with a fresh session, then follow the steps that match where Canva gets stuck.

Give Canva a fresh start

Confirm your work is saved online before closing Canva, refreshing the page, or restarting the app. Close browser tabs you aren't using, then quit unused applications to free resources for Canva.

Close every Canva tab, especially if you're stuck at the logo or a white screen. Open Canva in a fresh tab and sign in again if requested. Keep unused tabs and applications closed while you retry Canva.

Check the service and your connection

When editing, uploads, or downloads slow down, check for a Canva incident. Then compare your connection and device performance.

Open Canva Status and inspect the editor, uploads, downloads, and app components relevant to your problem. If an incident matches your symptoms, follow its updates and retry after recovery.

Run the speed test linked on Canva's technical requirements page. Try Canva on another internet connection, then run the browser performance test linked on that same requirements page. Compare Canva on another device to check whether the slowdown follows your original device.

If you're using a VPN, disconnect it through the VPN app. The controls depend on your VPN provider. Reconnect the VPN, then retry Canva after the connection returns.

Rule out browser interference

Extensions that alter Canva's traffic can interfere with loading or access.

In Chrome, open More > New Incognito window, then open Canva in that window. Sign in and test the design. Extensions explicitly allowed in Incognito still run, so this test doesn't exclude every extension.

If Canva works better there, return to your regular Chrome window and open More > Extensions > Manage extensions. Turn off one suspected extension, starting with blockers, privacy tools, or extensions that change website traffic. Retest Canva before disabling another extension.

In Edge, open Extensions > Manage extensions. Turn off a suspected extension and retest Canva.

On Safari for Mac, open Safari > Settings > Extensions and deselect a suspected extension. For a fresh private session, open File > New Private Window. Test Canva in that window.

In Firefox, open Menu > Help > Troubleshoot Mode…. Select Restart, then select Open. Test Canva. This mode temporarily disables extensions and hardware acceleration, so an improvement doesn't identify an extension as the sole cause.

Restart Firefox normally after the test. Next, check for browser updates. In Chrome, open More > Help > About Google Chrome and allow the update check to finish.

Select Relaunch when offered. Linux package installations update through their package manager; ChromeOS updates with the operating system.

In Edge, open Settings and more > Help and feedback > About Microsoft Edge. Wait for the update to finish, then select Restart if prompted.

In Firefox, open Menu > Help > About Firefox, or Firefox > About Firefox on Mac. Select Restart to update Firefox after the download. Store and Linux package installations update through their respective distribution channels.

For Safari updates, open Apple menu > System Settings > General > Software Update. Install the compatible macOS update offered. Safari updates are included.

Clear cached browser data

Save your work before clearing browser data. In desktop Chrome, open More > Delete browsing data and choose All time. Select Cached images and files, leaving unrelated categories unchecked, then select Delete data.

In desktop Edge, open Settings and more > Settings > Privacy, search, and services > Clear browsing data > Choose what to clear. Set Time range. Select Cached images and files, leaving unrelated categories unchecked, then select Clear now.

In Firefox, open Menu > History > Clear Recent History…. Set When: to Everything. Select Temporary cached files and pages, deselecting categories you want to retain, then select Clear.

On Safari for Mac, open Safari > Settings > Privacy > Manage Website Data. Select Canva, choose Remove, and select Done. Reopen Canva and sign in if requested.

Only add Cookies and other site data in Chrome or Edge when you also need a session reset, since clearing cookies removes sign-in sessions.

Get the mobile app responding again

If Canva's Android, iPhone, or iPad app is slow or unresponsive, start with updates and an app restart. Save your work online before force-stopping the app or deleting its data.

On Android, open Google Play Store > profile icon > Manage apps & devices > Updates available. Update Canva when offered, then update Android System WebView when offered. Canva requires a compatible WebView.

For an unresponsive app on Pixel, open Settings > Apps > See all apps > Canva > Force stop. Tap OK and reopen Canva. Other Android manufacturers use different menu labels.

If it remains slow, open Settings > Apps > See all apps > Canva > Storage & cache > Clear cache. Reserve an app-data reset for later troubleshooting, and confirm your work is saved online first. This erases local app data.

To reset it, return to Settings > Apps > See all apps > Canva > Storage & cache and select Clear storage, or Clear data on devices using that label. Tap OK to confirm.

On iPhone or iPad, open App Store > My Account or your profile photo > App Updates. Tap Update beside Canva.

To close an unresponsive Canva app, open the app switcher by swiping up from the bottom and pausing, or double-clicking the Home button on models that have one. Swipe Canva's preview upward, then reopen Canva. Save force-closing for unresponsive apps; routinely closing healthy apps slows reopening.

If your whole iPhone or iPad is slow, open Settings > General > iPhone Storage or iPad Storage. Review the storage recommendations and remove unneeded content to retain at least 1 GB of free space, as Apple recommends.

Adjust graphics and power settings for your symptoms

For photo-editor or WebGL problems in desktop Chrome, open chrome://settings and search for graphics acceleration. Enable Use graphics acceleration when available and relaunch. At chrome://gpu, check that WebGL and WebGL2 report Hardware accelerated.

In Edge, open edge://settings/system, enable Use graphics acceleration when available, and relaunch. Check WebGL at edge://gpu. If graphics problems persist, update your operating system and graphics drivers or test another device; older graphics hardware limits compatibility.

For many-tab Chrome sessions or Canva reloading after inactivity, open More > Settings > Performance and enable Memory Saver. Under Always keep these sites active, select Add > Add sites manually. Enter canva.com and select Add.

If video or background performance suffers while Chrome's Energy Saver is active, turn it off under More > Settings > Performance. Connecting power also prevents activation. Use these adjustments for the matching symptoms; they aren't universal Canva speed fixes.

Reduce the workload for slow downloads

Large, media-heavy designs increase the export workload. If editing works but downloading takes too long, open Share > Download > Select pages. Choose a small batch of pages, then select Download, or Pay and download if that button appears.

Repeat for the remaining pages. For a large design that still won't export reliably, select File > Make a copy. Reduce each copy to 10 pages or fewer, then remove unnecessary elements or animations from the copies.

Inspect Position > Layers for blank or broken elements. Replace affected media and wait for uploads to finish before exporting again.

For slow video exports, shorten the video and reduce its resolution to 1080p where available. Reduce animation and media counts to lighten the export workload. Use uploaded MP4 files in place of YouTube embeds.

If downloading through the editor fails, return to the homepage and open Projects. Find the design and open its thumbnail's More (…) menu. Select Download. These fixes address exports, with no guaranteed improvement to editor speed.

Try another way into Canva

If Canva still drags, open the same design in another updated Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge browser, or on another device. You can also try Canva's desktop app using the official Windows or Mac download page.

For an existing desktop installation, Canva recommends reinstalling. Confirm your work is saved online first.

On Windows 11, open Settings > Apps > Installed apps > Canva > More options (…) > Uninstall. Reinstall from Canva's Windows download page.

On Mac, quit Canva. In Finder, open Applications and select Canva. Choose File > Move to Trash, then reinstall from Canva's Mac download page.

Repeated Cloudflare security checks need separate attention. Open Canva's pre-clearance page and complete the security check. Reopen Canva. This is an access troubleshooting step; Canva says it doesn't reduce challenge frequency.

On a managed work or school device, ask IT to inspect proxy, VPN, filtering, security, and extension rules for interference with Canva.

If these steps fail, open Contact Canva Support and select Log in. Follow the support options available to your account, supplying the affected design, device and browser details, symptoms, and tests you've already tried.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will upgrading my Canva plan make it faster?

Canva's troubleshooting guidance for slowness doesn't list upgrading your plan as a fix. Troubleshoot the performance problem before changing plans.

Can I share my design without waiting for a download?

Yes. Open Share. Under Access level, choose the intended audience and view permission. Select Copy link. Recipients can view the design online, subject to your team's sharing policy.

Does offloading Canva on an iPhone clear its app data?

No. Offloading retains the app's documents and data, so it isn't an app-data reset. Deleting and reinstalling removes local app data; confirm your work is saved online before deleting the app.

What setting should I check if Canva stays on a white screen?

Check that JavaScript is enabled. In desktop Chrome, open Settings > Privacy and security > Site settings > JavaScript. Select Sites can use JavaScript. In Safari on iPhone or iPad, open Settings > Apps > Safari > Advanced and turn on JavaScript. Reload Canva after changing the setting.
