Your Google Pixel 10 builds up temporary cached data as you use apps and browse the web. This cache speeds things up initially, but over time it can get bloated and cause apps to lag, crash, or take up unnecessary storage. Clearing it out is a quick maintenance task that can solve a surprising number of performance hiccups.

Clear an Individual App's Cache

For a specific app that's acting up, like Chrome or Instagram, you can clear just its cache. Head to Settings > Apps and select the problematic app from the list. Tap on Storage & cache and then hit the Clear cache button.

This only removes temporary files the app uses to load faster. It won't delete your login information, saved settings, or any of your personal data within the app. I'd start with apps that tend to accumulate the most cache, like web browsers, social media platforms, and streaming services.

Use the System-Wide Cache Cleaner

Android 15 on the Pixel 10 includes a handy feature to clear cached data for all your apps in one go. Open Settings and go to Storage. You should see an option labeled Cached data showing how much space it's using.

Tapping on it will bring up a prompt asking if you want to clear the cache for all apps. Confirm it, and the system will wipe that temporary data across the board. It's a great first step if your phone feels generally sluggish.

Clear Your Chrome Browser Cache

If web pages are loading slowly or behaving strangely, your browser cache might be the culprit. Open Chrome, tap the three-dot menu in the top right, and go to Settings > Privacy and security > Clear browsing data.

Under the Basic tab, make sure Cached images and files is selected. You can choose a time range, but "All time" gives you the cleanest slate. Tap Clear data to finish. This won't log you out of your websites.

Wipe the System Cache Partition

For deeper system glitches or lag that persists after an update, clearing the cache partition can help. First, power your Pixel 10 completely off. Then, press and hold the Power button and Volume Down button together until the bootloader screen appears.

Use the volume buttons to highlight Recovery Mode and press the power button to select it. When you see the Android robot with an exclamation mark, hold Power and press Volume Up once to enter the menu. Navigate to Wipe cache partition and select it with the power button.

This process only deletes system-level temporary files and is completely safe for your photos, messages, and apps. After it's done, select Reboot system now.

Manage Storage with Files by Google

The pre-installed Files by Google app is excellent for this job. Open it and tap the Clean button on the bottom left. The app will scan and show you categories like junk files, large files, and duplicate downloads.

You can review its suggestions and tap to clean them out. It's a very effective tool for reclaiming gigabytes of space from forgotten downloads and app leftovers without having to dig through folders manually.

Clear Out Old Messages and Downloads

Don't forget about your Messages app, especially if you send and receive a lot of photos and videos. Those media files are saved in the cache and take up real space. Open a long conversation, tap the three-dot menu, and choose Details to see and delete all the attached files.

Also, regularly check your Downloads folder. You can access it through the Files app. Delete any old PDFs, APK files, or images you no longer need.

Perform a Regular Restart

It sounds simple, but restarting your Pixel 10 clears out the device's active memory (RAM) and some temporary system caches. Just press and hold the power button, then tap Restart on the screen.

Making a habit of restarting your phone once a week can prevent minor software glitches from building up and keep everything running smoothly.

Review Your Storage Breakdown

To get a full picture of what's using space, go to Settings > Storage. The Pixel 10 gives you a detailed breakdown by category, Apps, Images, Videos, and more. Tap into each section to see the largest items.

This is where you can decide to offload old videos to your computer or use Google Photos' "Free up space" feature, which removes photos and videos from your device that are already safely backed up to the cloud.
