Spotify can look down when the service is having trouble, but the same symptoms also come from the app, your device, your account, or the network you are using. Start with Spotify’s own outage sources, then test playback outside the installed app. By the end, you will know whether to wait for Spotify or fix something on your side.

1. Confirm Spotify’s own outage reports

Open Spotify Support and go to Ongoing issues.

Check for a known app issue that matches your error, missing page, login problem, or playback failure.

Open the Spotify Community Ongoing Issues board and search for your problem.

Check the issue label. Under investigation means Spotify is still working on it; Fixed, Need more info, Not An Issue, Old Case Closed, Not Right Now, and Won't Fix show how Spotify classified the report.

Open @SpotifyStatus on X and review recent posts for outage acknowledgements, investigation updates, and resolved notices.

If Spotify has confirmed the problem, wait for the resolved notice before reinstalling apps or changing account settings.

2. Use StatusGator as a second signal

Open StatusGator’s Spotify Status page.

Check Is Spotify down?, Spotify outage reports, top reported outages, the outage map, and incident history.

Compare those reports with Spotify Support, the Community Ongoing Issues board, and @SpotifyStatus.

Use Report an outage or notifications as extras only.

3. Test Spotify Web Player first

This fixes the guesswork by showing whether Spotify works outside the installed app.

  1. 1.Go to open.spotify.com.
  2. 2.Play the same song, album, playlist, or podcast that failed in the app.
  3. 3.On desktop, use Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Opera, or Safari.
  4. 4.On Android 6.0 or newer, use Chrome 87+, Samsung Internet 17+, or Firefox 115+.
  5. 5.On iPhone or iPad, use Chrome 87+ or Safari 15+.

4. Try another device to isolate the cause

When Spotify fails on one device but works on another device or in the Web Player, focus on the original device. Check support at Spotify Support > Supported devices for Spotify: Spotify lists iOS 16.1 or above, Android OS 7.0 or above, macOS 12.0 or above, Windows 10 64-bit, and Windows 11 or above for the current app. If your device falls below those versions, use the Web Player or upgrade the OS or device.

5. Restart Spotify and switch off Offline mode

Close Spotify completely, then reopen it.

If Spotify shows Page not available, Something went wrong, or playback still fails, check Offline mode.

On mobile or tablet, tap your profile picture and go to Settings and privacy > Data-saving and offline.

Switch Offline mode off.

On Mac, open Spotify and use the top menu path Spotify.

On Windows, open Spotify and use the three-dot menu path File.

Switch Offline mode off on desktop too.

6. Check your connection outside Spotify

Open another app or web page.

If other apps or pages do not load, turn Wi-Fi off in your device settings.

Wait 30 seconds.

Turn Wi-Fi back on.

Restart the router.

Try a different Wi-Fi network or mobile data connection.

Check your mobile data allowance in device settings or with your carrier.

When the whole device is offline, fix the connection first and return to Spotify after other apps load normally.

7. Update Spotify and clear the cache

This fixes stale app files, old builds, and storage problems that make Spotify look down when the issue is local.

On iPhone or iPad, open the App Store, tap your Apple ID image, find Spotify, then tap UPDATE.

On Android, open Google Play Store, search for Spotify, then tap UPDATE.

On desktop, look for a blue dot next to your profile picture, click your profile picture, then select Update Spotify now.

On mobile, go to Settings and privacy > Data-saving and offline, then tap Clear next to Clear cache.

On desktop, click your profile picture, open Settings, scroll to Storage, then click Clear cache.

Free up storage if needed. Spotify recommends at least 1GB free memory for normal use and at least 250MB as a minimum troubleshooting check.

8. Avoid blocked networks and old status pages

On a school, office, public Wi-Fi, or managed device, Spotify can fail because the network blocks it. If Spotify fails only there, check your firewall (if you use one) to see if it has Spotify set as an exception, and contact the network administrator or IT department for the shared network. Skip status.spotify.dev and similar API status links; Spotify Community staff said that status page was taken down because it did not show actual service health well.

9. Reinstall Spotify or contact support

On iPhone or iPad, tap and hold the Spotify app icon, choose Remove App, choose Delete App, then install Spotify again from the App Store.

On Android, go to Settings > Apps > Spotify > Uninstall, then install Spotify again from Google Play or your phone’s app store.

On Mac, open Finder > Applications, drag Spotify to Trash, empty Trash, then install Spotify again from Spotify’s Download page.

On Windows, close Spotify, go to Start menu > Settings > Apps > Apps & Features > Spotify > Uninstall, then install Spotify again through Microsoft Store or directly from Spotify.

If outage checks do not explain the issue, open Spotify Support and go to Contact us > Message us.

Search or post on the Spotify Community for unresolved account, login, billing, or technical issues.

Spotify says it does not currently offer support by phone, so use messaging or the Community when public status checks do not match your problem.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if Spotify is down for everyone or just me?

Check Spotify Support Ongoing Issues, the Spotify Community Ongoing Issues board, and @SpotifyStatus first. Then try the Web Player or another device; if Spotify works there, focus on your app, device, network, or account.

Is StatusGator enough to confirm a Spotify outage?

No. StatusGator collects outage reports, maps, and incident history, but it is third-party. Use it as a second signal alongside Spotify’s official support and status channels.

Why does Spotify say it is offline when my internet works?

Spotify Offline mode is usually the first setting to check. In the mobile app, go to Settings and privacy > Data-saving and offline. On desktop, check Offline mode from the Spotify menu on Mac or the File menu on Windows.

What should I do before contacting Spotify Support?

Check official outage sources, restart Spotify, test the Web Player or another device, confirm your device is supported, update the app, clear cache, and reinstall Spotify. If the problem still does not match a known outage, use Contact us > Message us.
