When your brand-new Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge starts feeling sluggish, it's pretty frustrating. Most slowdowns come down to just a handful of straightforward issues. Here's how to get that smooth speed back without needing to be a tech wizard.
Start with a quick restart
I know it sounds basic, but a full restart clears out temporary system junk that can bog things down. On the Galaxy S25 Edge, press and hold the Volume Down and Side button together for about 10 seconds until the Samsung logo pops up. That's a force restart, and it often fixes lag completely on its own.
Clear out storage space
If your storage is almost full, the phone has to work much harder to manage files. Head to Settings > Battery and device care > Storage to take a look. You can offload unused apps, delete duplicate photos, and clear out old downloads to free up gigabytes instantly.
Close background apps and wipe the cache partition
A ton of apps sitting open in the background can eat up your available RAM. Swipe up from the bottom, hold, and swipe away any apps you don't need right now. For a deeper clean, power off the phone, boot into recovery mode, and wipe the cache partition, it clears out corrupted temporary files without deleting any of your data.
Switch to Light performance mode
Samsung's One UI gives you a built-in performance profile right in the settings. If you don't need peak power for gaming, switching to Light mode can make the phone feel noticeably snappier in daily use. You'll find it under Settings > Battery and device care > Performance profile.
Check for software and app updates
Software bugs are a really common cause of lag and stuttering. Make sure your phone is on the latest firmware by going to Settings > Software update > Download and install. While you're there, open both the Google Play Store and the Galaxy Store to update all your apps.
Manage battery-hungry apps
Some apps are just resource hogs that drain power and performance in the background. Go to Settings > Battery and device care > Battery to see which apps are using the most power. You can tap on any app and put it to sleep if it's running wild when it shouldn't be.
Tone down the animations
Fancy window animations can make a phone feel smooth, but they can also make it feel artificially slow. Go to Settings > Developer options, if you don't see it, head to About phone > Software information and tap Build number seven times. Once enabled, set Window animation scale, Transition animation scale, and Animator duration scale to 0.5x or Off. Everything feels instant after that.
Keep it cool to prevent throttling
This is a known quirk with the S25 Edge: if it gets too hot, the system automatically limits performance and even charging speed to protect the hardware. If the phone feels warm to the touch, take the case off, stop using it, and let it cool down for a bit. Avoiding heavy use while charging also helps a ton.
Remove unnecessary widgets and home screen clutter
Widgets and Bixby suggestions look nice, but they consume background resources that can stack up over time. Long press any widget on the home screen to remove it. You can also dial back Bixby entirely in Settings > Advanced features > Bixby.
The nuclear option: a factory reset
If nothing else has worked, a factory reset is the ultimate clean slate for your S25 Edge. Before you do this, back up your photos and files to Google Drive or a PC, it wipes everything completely. Go to Settings > General management > Reset > Factory data reset, and your phone will be back to its fresh, fast state.
