If your OnePlus Nord 4 is losing charge way faster than it used to, the first thing to do is check the battery stats. Head to Settings > Battery > Battery usage. This screen shows exactly which apps have been draining power over the last 24 hours or the past week. Look for any app using a surprisingly high percentage, especially social media, games, or video streaming services. This is your quickest way to spot a rogue app.
Check Your Battery Health
Before you start changing settings, it's worth seeing the overall condition of your battery. Go to Settings > Battery > Battery health. This menu shows your battery's current capacity as a percentage of its original state. If this number is below 80%, the battery's ability to hold a charge is significantly reduced, which explains the fast drain. The Nord 4's metal unibody helps with heat dissipation, which is good for battery longevity, but all batteries wear out over time.
Manage App Battery Usage
Back in the Battery usage menu, tap on any app that's using too much power. You'll see options to restrict its background activity. For most apps, you can set it to Optimize, which intelligently limits background use. For really problematic apps, you can choose Restrict, which prevents it from running in the background entirely. I'd start by restricting any app you don't need instant notifications from.
Update Your Phone and Apps
Software bugs are a common cause of sudden battery drain. Make sure your Nord 4 is running the latest version of OxygenOS. Go to Settings > About device > OxygenOS version and tap on the icon to check for updates. Similarly, open the Google Play Store, tap your profile picture, and go to Manage apps & device to update all your apps. Updates often include performance and battery life improvements.
Adjust Your Display Settings
The screen is one of the biggest battery consumers. Lowering the brightness can make a substantial difference. You can also set a shorter screen timeout. Go to Settings > Display & brightness. Here, you can adjust the brightness slider and tap on Screen timeout to set it to 30 seconds or 1 minute. Consider using the Dark theme as well, as it uses less power on the Nord 4's display, especially at higher brightness levels.
Control Location and Background Data
Constantly checking your location drains the battery quickly. Go to Settings > Location and make sure it's only on when needed. You can also tap on App location permission to review which apps can access your location and set most to "Allow only while in use." Next, check background data. Go to Settings > Apps > [select an app] > Mobile data & Wi-Fi and toggle off "Allow background data usage" for apps that don't need it.
Review and Remove Unnecessary Features
Several convenience features run constantly. Go to Settings > Additional settings > Gestures & motions and disable any you don't use, like "Raise to wake" or "Quick turn on flashlight." Also, check Settings > Additional settings > Accessibility and turn off features like "Sound recognition" if they're enabled. These small background processes add up over time.
Use the Correct Charging Gear
The Nord 4 supports incredibly fast 100W wired charging, getting you from 0 to 100% in about 28 minutes. To achieve this, you must use the included SuperVOOC charger and the provided USB-A to USB-C cable. Using a standard USB-C cable or a slower charger won't damage the phone, but it will charge much slower. For the best battery health long-term, avoid constantly letting the battery drop to 0% or leaving it plugged in at 100% for extended periods.
Perform a Force Restart
If the battery drain started suddenly after an app update or a minor glitch, a simple force restart can clear temporary software issues. Press and hold the Power button for about 10 seconds until the phone screen goes black and the OnePlus logo reappears. This is different from a normal restart and can resolve background processes that are stuck and consuming power.
Enable Battery Saver and Sleep Standby
For immediate relief, pull down the quick settings shade and tap the Battery saver icon. This limits background activity, sync, and location services. For a more automated approach, go to Settings > Battery > More battery settings and enable Sleep standby optimization. This feature learns your sleep schedule and conserves power during those hours by restricting network access for apps.
Reset All Settings as a Last Resort
If you've tried everything and the drain persists, a settings reset can help. This won't delete your photos, apps, or personal data, but it will revert all system settings (like Wi-Fi passwords, Bluetooth pairings, and display preferences) back to default. Go to Settings > Additional settings > Back up and reset > Reset phone and then select Reset all settings. After the phone reboots, you'll need to reconfigure your preferences, but it often clears up persistent software-related battery issues.
