Abode expanded its Apple Home-compatible lineup with two new sensors built for entry points that typically fall outside the reach of traditional indoor monitoring. The DIY smart home security company announced the Garage Tilt Sensor and Outdoor Contact Sensor, both designed to work with an Abode hub.
The Garage Tilt Sensor detects motion when a surface shifts more than 45 degrees from its resting position, making it suitable for tilt-style garage doors, attic hatches, basement tilt windows, and hinged panels. It offers up to 10 years of battery life and sends an alert through the Abode app when triggered.
The IP66-rated Outdoor Contact Sensor is purpose-built for metal gates, sheds, storage units, mailboxes, and detached garages, with a stronger magnet and wider activation gap aimed at reducing false alarms common with indoor sensors used outside.
Both sensors work with Apple Home, Alexa, and Google Assistant, and can tap into Abode's CUE automation engine for behaviors like switching on driveway lights when a gate opens after dark or closing a garage door left open too long. Abode says connectivity can extend up to 500 feet under optimal conditions, and its setup guide lets users test range before mounting.
The Garage Tilt Sensor carries a suggested retail price of $34.99, while the Outdoor Contact Sensor is priced at $49.99. Abode founder and CEO Chris Carney said the company built the sensors because "the perimeter of a home deserves the same protection as the inside of it," noting that unlocked side gates and garages often go unmonitored.
