Capturing what's on your Google Pixel 9a's screen is a daily task, whether you're saving a funny meme, documenting an online order, or sharing an error message. The Pixel 9a, running Android 15, gives you several ways to do it, from classic button presses to clever gestures.

Use the Classic Button Combo

The most reliable method is the universal Android shortcut. Simply press the Power button and the Volume Down button together for a brief moment. You'll see the screen flash, hear a camera shutter sound, and a small preview will pop up in the bottom-left corner. You can tap that preview to edit or share right away, or just let it vanish and the screenshot will save to your Photos library automatically.

Take a Screenshot with a Gesture

This is one of the most convenient features on your Pixel 9a. Make sure you're using gesture navigation, which is the default. To take a screenshot, simply swipe up from the bottom of the screen and hold your finger for a second. This opens the recent apps overview.

At the bottom of the current app's preview card, you'll see a row of options. Tap the one labeled Screenshot. It instantly captures the content you were just looking at. I find this method is perfect when you're already navigating with one hand.

Ask Google Assistant

When your hands are full or the button combo feels awkward, just use your voice. Say, "Hey Google, take a screenshot." Your Pixel 9a will capture the screen immediately. You can also activate the Assistant by holding the power button or swiping from a corner, then type the command. It's a seamless hands-free option.

Use the Quick Settings Tile

Swipe down from the top of your screen twice to pull down the full Quick Settings panel. Look for a tile that says Screenshot. If you don't see it, tap the pencil icon at the bottom to edit your tiles.

You can then drag the Screenshot tile into your active panel. Once it's there, a single tap on that tile will capture your screen. It's a great method if you prefer tapping on-screen buttons over pressing physical ones.

Capture Scrolling Content

Need to screenshot a long webpage or an entire text conversation? The Pixel 9a has a built-in scrolling screenshot tool. First, take a regular screenshot using any method. When the preview appears in the corner, tap it to open the editor.

At the bottom, you'll see a button that says Capture more. Tap it, and your phone will automatically scroll down and extend the screenshot. You can keep tapping "Capture more" until you've grabbed everything you need, creating one seamless long image.

Edit and Share Immediately

Right after taking a screenshot, tap the preview notification that appears. This opens the Pixel's built-in editor. From here, you can crop the image, draw on it with different colors, add text, or use a highlighter. When you're done, tap the share icon in the top right to send it directly through Messages, Gmail, or any other app without ever leaving the editor.

Find Your Saved Screenshots

All your screenshots are automatically saved and organized. The easiest place to find them is in the Google Photos app. Open it, go to the Library tab at the bottom, and select the Screenshots album. They're all collected there.

You can also locate the files directly through the Files app. Navigate to Internal storage > Pictures > Screenshots. This folder contains every screenshot you've taken, ready to be moved, backed up, or deleted.
